Hi all! Wanna help a TH-cam education OG? Please post comments, questions and anything else on your mind in the comment section! so, don’t forget to LIKE, THUMBS UP, and SUBSCRIBE! I’d appreciate it greatly as it helps me :)
I don't understand how this video got so many down thumbs. When we approached dividing Quotients of Polynomials, I used multiple workbook and website examples and had multiple people of multiple ages show my son how they got the answer. The mule finally watched this video one time and mastered it! We're using LifePac (Alpha-Omega publishing) and even the book shows "R #" for remainders, so this is much more professional or formal than our book. My son says that he may need to watch the video again after a good night's rest, but boy he has got it. This was our first math hurdle and your video helped us jump over it. I'm shrieking and dancing, loving life...Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Of course a single video can not help everyone, but I am super happy to hear that it helped you all :) thanks so much for the kind words and good luck to your son!
+patrickJMT I'm with Karen, only I have reached the point where I simply surf until I can find someone that can teach this stuff. A friend once gave me insight into one of the many people that teach math [poorly]: "He knew enough to arrogant, but not enough to be simple". I can think of a great many math teachers that fit that description. I've learned to search for someone simple. Good job.
Hi all! Please post comments, questions and anything else on your mind in the comment section! While I try to answer as many questions as I can, there are more questions than I can answer by myself so if you are someone who might be able to help, please do so! The community is so much better when everyone is involved and helping each other out. Our strength is our willingness to help each other! Also please feel free to like or dislike the video. Your feedback is always appreciated so that hopefully I can make my future videos the best possible! Thanks and happy studies!
I'm in calculus right now. I had to come back here to review this because I need it to do an example in integration by Natural Logarithmic Function. This video definitely put me back on track. Thanks!
-crying because I don't understand what I'm doing- -finds all his videos on youtube- -understands how its done- -tears of joy-...-subscribe- Thank You so much!
thanks patrick for your videos. because of you, i learned all of algebra 1 and mastered it in 1 week. now i tutor my grandmaster's son in exchange for martial arts lessons. you've changed my life for the better my friend!
I freakin' love u man. You've saved my ass ever since high school lol. U DA MAN. But u already knew that :) Someone who can actually teach-- it's beautiful
College Calculus 2 student who never really learned how to long-divide. With a whole section on integrals with improper polynomial fractions, this was a life saver. Thank you so much for your work
Thank You for the video! Who knew such a simple task that you decided to do for others would receive this much happiness of finally being able to solve this question. I give you my many thanks!
it seems you already know the answer in that case :) no, you do not have to add it. i am pretty sure i mention in the video that it is merely a 'place holder' to keep all the terms lining up.
man you are a life saver. i have ADD so when i cant focus in class and cant grasp the concept this is where i go cause you make it quick and simple and if i miss something i can just rewind the vid to re watch it
yes i do. if you do a search on my channel of ' Finding all the Zeros of a Polynomial - Example 3 ' i find the zeros of a 4th degree polynomial. feel free to check out example 1 and 2 as well!
You are good! I am a math teacher, and although I am not "officially"teaching math I help some students, and watching your awesome video helps me to remind me and tutoring those who asks me!! Thank you for helping our children to understand this magic world of MATH!
My teacher has been giving my class nothing but worksheets, and this has helped me alot, because he doesn't teach a damn thing! Thank you thank you thank you!
Before patrickJMT, the mean, the median and the mode of my math grades were below 50, but after patrickJMT the mean, the median and the mode were absolutely equal. they became ALL 100!!!!!!! thank you sir
Khawer Hussain thats the issue, most math teachers are mathmaticians, but not teachers. They know how to do it but they do not know how to explain it to others.
No way I can thank you enough for every single video on your channel, you saved me in countless tests, my teachers can't teach. If only you were them, thank you!
We just started this in class and my teacher did a terrible job at explaining. Having not been taught how to do the long long division and rather the short long division I was confused. You sir made this so clear and I actually understand it now! Thank you so much! Now I don't have to panic about our test happening soon and our exam!
Thank you so much! I was trying to help my brother with his math homework, but I needed a refresher myself. Thank you, again, for making the tutoring process as painless as possible.
You are literally my hero. My teacher doesn't know how to explain well so I was completely lost for the past week. I totally understand now thank you so much keep making videos!
My mathematics teacher at university couldn't explain this as clearly as you, it's crazy. I know this was posted 5 years ago and you'll never see this comment among the huge pile of other comments, but seriously, I'd like to thank you so so much, you've really helped me with this topic question, absolute legend :')
I'm a 1st year uni student and have never done this in high school, my lecturer could not explain this in a whole hour and u did it in 10 minutes, thank you so much =D
+Dixie Flores Don't worry. Place holders are there to keep things lined up so you don't get it all mixed up. You don't NEED them, strictly speaking, but they help keep everything in place so you don't make subtraction or addition errors :)
I was in exactly the same boat as you, mate. I know how frustrating it can be. Thank you so much @patrickJMT for this video. You have compressed what would have been days of self learning into just ten minutes. Please keep making videos like these. Have a great day, mate. -- Dillon Chaffey
matthew spence ye we dont even need it in life... ex. you are going to buy a bread and you said... hello im uonna buy a bread.. here is my payment.. 3x^2 $ woow right??
Thank you a million times You can't believe how grateful I am .. I'm taking a very short summer course where each day we'll start a new chapter ... But you've helped me understand more than class time
You have no idea how much your videos have helped me out this semester. Pretty much every homework assignment we have, I've just gone to your videos in order to truly understand how to solve the problems from the ground up. Side note: You sound like the guidance counselor from Beavis and Butthead. Don't worry, that's not a bad thing.
TIP: Line like terms into the right columns. For example, in the problem "x + 6" should be lined up above "4x - 8", not "x^2 + 4x". And the answer is x + 6 + -4/ x - 2, the -1 wasn't applied to the -12 which becomes a positive 12.
My professor used a whole hour trying to explain Long Division of Polynomials and I didn't get it. I watched less than five minutes of this video and I can already do it. Thanks.
Patrick I cannot thank you enough. Your videos so far have gotten me through a week of college algebra after i have not done it in 20+years. You explain it in english and i will be looking at your website for additional videos.. Hoping you have one on graphing a line when only given the slope..
I'm going back to school after over 15 years of being away. Thank you for explaining division of polynomials in a clear way. I hope to be done with math if I do well enough on the placement test.
Lol so I'm a good honors student however I always fall asleep in my Algebra II class, I hd a 90 minute Algebra II period today - I learned more here than I did in 90 minutes at school haha! Thank You!!
Studying Further Pure 2, and my teacher always tells me to divide before differentiating, but I hate long division and couldn't do it - so I found this TH-cam video and I can now do long division! Thanks so much, hopefully will get an A in this exam :D
I'm learning Advanced Level Maths independently, so from a very tired but grateful viewer, doing long division of polynomials after a day at work, thankkk yoouu!
I don't know how to thank you, but here is a huge THANK YOU anyway!! I've watched too many videos into the dark of night trying to refresh my math memory (I'm back in college after many years to pursue my graduate degree in science).. but I was having such a difficult time remembering certain functions. I am trying to pass my pre-calculus course so I can move on to further studies. Your video helped some really important small concepts "click" in my brain again.Thank you soooooo much for a much needed "aha" moment! Blessings!
Never learned how to use long division.. And when we had to do it with polynomials I had a panic attack. You saved me!(: Thank you for being a life saver.
I understood how my teacher used to teach me about this stuff, but when there's a quiz, most of us could not answer, but because of this video, I began to understand this division on polynomials thingy. And so I would like 2 thank you for creating a video like this
Oh my goodness you explain so much better than my textbook, and my teacher practically reads off the examples in the book to teach the lesson, this was really helpful, thanks you SO much!!
doing High end mathematics, it is helpful to know how to rewrite things in a simpler, workable form. Im assuing you haven't done calculus yet, but if you do, you'll see how difficult these forms are to work with, but the long division allows you to rewrite in a much simpler form.
Same as everyone else on here!! You should see how my textbook (my very text book!!) introduces this... in any case by your second example I was already working alongside.. forever grateful
I seriously just prayed that God would bless you good sir I have a test including this topic and my teacher taught it to us today test is Friday without u I could never comprehend this In 1 class period
Had to review this process for Calc 1, lol. I used to be great at this (it's simple), but if you don't use it you definitely forget it. Thanks for the video!

Sam here! Calc is easy but going back to the basic geys hard
THIS IS EXACTLY WHY IM HERE TOOOOOOOO

Thank You so much!
This saved my life. I wish my Algebra teacher would explain this good.
thanks patrick for your videos. because of you, i learned all of algebra 1 and mastered it in 1 week. now i tutor my grandmaster's son in exchange for martial arts lessons. you've changed my life for the better my friend!

Okay. Why the hell are you disliking this video? It's a perfectly fine example on how this mathematical concept works.
man you are a life saver. i have ADD so when i cant focus in class and cant grasp the concept this is where i go cause you make it quick and simple and if i miss something i can just rewind the vid to re watch it
Thx, this video helped quite a bit and its clearer than my math teacher explained it.
yes i do. if you do a search on my channel of ' Finding all the Zeros of a Polynomial - Example 3 ' i find the zeros of a 4th degree polynomial. feel free to check out example 1 and 2 as well!
and all I ever thought was ''I can never do long division''. but then again, thank you sir, I can :)
yes, yes you can :)
Lebo nthebe-moroane your beautiful......were are in SA .call me here 083 899 8881
wow, found the winner for 'creepy comment of the day'
Hahahaha I did this intentionally because I saw that you Patrick commented and there many likes. ..........hahaha Mr attention seeker
patrickJMT ..you hardly respond .....
You are good! I am a math teacher, and although I am not "officially"teaching math I help some students, and watching your awesome video helps me to remind me and tutoring those who asks me!!

Thanks for the help, Patrick! I was stuck with my algebra homework, but I get it now! :)
perfect!

thx man ive got a test tomorrow and you really helped a lot, thanks!
+Vionce Penn good luck!
+patrickJMT thanks!
Before patrickJMT, the mean, the median and the mode of my math grades were below 50, but after patrickJMT the mean, the median and the mode were absolutely equal. they became ALL 100!!!!!!!
thank you sir
Seems to make more sense than when my teacher explained it
I will see tomorrow if I can do it tho
Yup
Works
I can now confidently do this
Khawer Hussain thats the issue, most math teachers are mathmaticians, but not teachers. They know how to do it but they do not know how to explain it to others.
OH MY GOD! I SPENT A WHOLE PARTIAL NOT UNDERSTANDING THIS AND I JUST LEARNED. YOU ARE AMAZING. WOW.
Bless you sir.
I. Love. You
The following user says thank
Lol
You sir are a life saver!
How do you decide whether it would be better to use long division or synthetic division?
+Claire Adams synthetic only works if you are dividing by a linear factor
Claire Adams you can use synthetic for this problem. for synthetic, you must have a binomial containing a variable with a degree of 1 with a constant
No way I can thank you enough for every single video on your channel, you saved me in countless tests, my teachers can't teach. If only you were them, thank you!
this helps a lot because I
was really struggling
You're even better than my teachers! I love your tutorials, they are a big help. Please continue educating us. ^_^
Now I can help my sister with her homework ☺ thank you
We just started this in class and my teacher did a terrible job at explaining. Having not been taught how to do the long long division and rather the short long division I was confused. You sir made this so clear and I actually understand it now! Thank you so much! Now I don't have to panic about our test happening soon and our exam!
Excellent video, clear and concise :)
Thank you so much! I was trying to help my brother with his math homework, but I needed a refresher myself. Thank you, again, for making the tutoring process as painless as possible.
Thanks so much this helped me a lot 😀
Seriously TH-cam has never once failed me in my hour of need. Thank you PATICK JMT sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your existence and thank thank you for making these videos!
I'm taking an online math class at MSU and you are basically my teacher for this semester. Thank you so much
You're the best, I'm just a noob and now I feel like a god XD
Don't use 'XD'
*Every time I don't understand a math concept and I search for it on youtube, I GET **_SO_** RELIEVED WHENEVER I SEE YOUR CHANNEL, THANK YOU SO MUCH!*
U are now my go to source when it comes with math! Thank you!
You are literally my hero. My teacher doesn't know how to explain well so I was completely lost for the past week. I totally understand now thank you so much keep making videos!
They said left-handed people are good at Mathematics and I think they're right.
+Charles Khent Villaver but you just said they are left-handed.
+patrickJMT I mean they are correct.
oh, ok
+Charles Khent Villaver well i'm left handed and i dont undersstand this AT ALL someone save me from this math please
+Charles Khent Villaver Who made up that lie? Because I'm left handed and I'm watching this video lol plus I'm horrible at math in general.
My mathematics teacher at university couldn't explain this as clearly as you, it's crazy. I know this was posted 5 years ago and you'll never see this comment among the huge pile of other comments, but seriously, I'd like to thank you so so much, you've really helped me with this topic question, absolute legend :')
Mrs Coughlin sent me here
smart woman, that mrs. coughlin
I'm a 1st year uni student and have never done this in high school, my lecturer could not explain this in a whole hour and u did it in 10 minutes, thank you so much =D
thanks for the vid
I don't understand why all math teachers can't be like you. You are a legend.
I really dont understand the place holders. Im sorry i am not the smartest
+Dixie Flores Don't worry. Place holders are there to keep things lined up so you don't get it all mixed up. You don't NEED them, strictly speaking, but they help keep everything in place so you don't make subtraction or addition errors :)

Nice vid, i will check back
Well done sir.
This video has saved me on my test.
You have done what my past two math teachers could not do.
You have made me a very happy person.
why do polynomials have to exist :(
because of the big bang!
matthew spence ye we dont even need it in life... ex.
you are going to buy a bread and you said... hello im uonna buy a bread.. here is my payment.. 3x^2 $ woow right??
Thanks, JMT for all your free tutorials, for sure you are making your country a better world.
Does it help if your videos are funny? I'm better at comedy writing than Polynomial Long Division Algebra.
+Mars TV by nikki bass many niches on TH-cam. Pretty sure comedy videos do better in terms of views than math videos :)
Well that's a huge percentage of relief! 😄👍
Thank you a million times
You can't believe how grateful I am .. I'm taking a very short summer course where each day we'll start a new chapter ... But you've helped me understand more than class time
math sucks
you suck..
Good luck getting a job without math.
The second time I have depended on your video to figure out the proper way to answer a problem. Text had nothing, no example from teacher.
Awesome.
TIP:
Line like terms into the right columns. For example, in the problem "x + 6" should be lined up above "4x - 8", not "x^2 + 4x".
And the answer is x + 6 + -4/ x - 2, the -1 wasn't applied to the -12 which becomes a positive 12.
Out of interest at nearly 70 years of age I would like to learn algebra and this lesson is really good, thank you very much. Regards Arthur.
thank you, my friend! using youtube to actually educate others is a rariety; thank you for your time and for sharing knowledge!
Thank god someone on youtube can actually explain this in depth. Thank you so much!!!!!!
Dude you are an absolute lifesaver. You teach this stuff better than my algebra teacher who has a doctorates in mathematical studies. Props to you ;)
Wow this is actually really easy. Thanks man, I slept through class for like a week straight and now I have a test tomorrow and this saved me.
I'm going back to school after over 15 years of being away. Thank you for explaining division of polynomials in a clear way. I hope to be done with math if I do well enough on the placement test.
My Algebra 2 teacher made this concept so hard to understand but ugh you were the real mvp tonight
Thank you very much! Weeks of confusing teaching all explained in one simple TH-cam lesson, you are a savior!
Great tutorial, I didn't know how straight forward the process was until your video. You did an excellent job explaining!
got a C3 test tomorrow on chapters 1-4, long division was something i never got the hang of, thank you so much!
Thanks so much, hopefully will get an A in this exam :D
thanks for the kind words :)
I'm learning Advanced Level Maths independently, so from a very tired but grateful viewer, doing long division of polynomials after a day at work, thankkk yoouu!
Oh god this is so GENIUS. I never thought long division can be applied this way. Thank you so much mate!
I don't know how to thank you, but here is a huge THANK YOU anyway!! I've watched too many videos into the dark of night trying to refresh my math memory (I'm back in college after many years to pursue my graduate degree in science).. but I was having such a difficult time remembering certain functions. Thank you so much! My pre-calculus teacher didn't explain it as wonderful as this! Only if public school teachers could teach like this.
Thanks again
you are the reason I even pass any of my tests...you teach better than any of my math teachers
Never learned how to use long division.. And when we had to do it with polynomials I had a panic attack. You saved me!(: Thank you for being a life saver.
U make more sence then all the other people that try to explain this. Thank you very much.
I understood how my teacher used to teach me about this stuff, but when there's a quiz, most of us could not answer, but because of this video, I began to understand this division on polynomials thingy. And so I would like 2 thank you for creating a video like this
This made more sense to me than any of the bs examples my teacher has "explained" this semester. I think you just saved my exam grade. Thanks so much!
+r u Kobra Kidding me? you are very welcome!
10 years later and still saving students, legend!
This channel should get an award. thank you so much bro!
thanks dear teacher you save my time .you are the best teacher .
Oh my goodness you explain so much better than my textbook, and my teacher practically reads off the examples in the book to teach the lesson, this was really helpful, thanks you SO much!!
any price? you can not afford that.
doing High end mathematics, it is helpful to know how to rewrite things in a simpler, workable form. Im assuing you haven't done calculus yet, but if you do, you'll see how difficult these forms are to work with, but the long division allows you to rewrite in a much simpler form.
Same as everyone else on here!! You should see how my textbook (my very text book!!) introduces this... in any case by your second example I was already working alongside.. forever grateful
this is a great video. You really know how to teach so that what your teaching is easy to understand, which is a great quality to have.
Been having a hard understanding this method when our teacher discussed it to us but now I can and ALL thanks to you! you're awesome :D
When i don,t understand something in a lecture, this is the first place I come. thank you.
