The Tata Group's Air India has made multi-billion dollar deals with Airbus and Boeing to purchase 470 passenger aircraft, making it the largest shopping event in commercial aviation history. The deal, worth over $85 billion, includes 250 Airbus and 220 Boeing planes, with an option to purchase 70 more, and is set to significantly improve India's image on the global platform as an emerging leader in the commercial aviation sector. US President Joe Biden hailed the agreement, saying it will support over one million American jobs. The narrow-body aircraft include 140 A320 planes and 70 A321neo ones, while the wide-body aircraft will be used for ultra-long flights. The acquisition is expected to win back some of the market share Air India has lost over the years to Gulf and western airlines.
