All 3 of my children have heart defects. I had my oldest when I was 19 and it was SO difficult being a young mother and having a newborn go through open heart surgery and the battles/complications that followed. Family and friends were telling me to do things that they had always done and their kids turned out fine, but some of those options could have killed my baby. Trying to advocate for myself and my medically complex newborn was exhausting. But we made it through and I went on to have 2 more heart babies and had a much easier time and felt more confident and secure in my decisions

I love my midwives, but they only have to handle us for 6 weeks and they don’t have the knowledge out side of that scope. It’s overwhelming on some level. My little lady has been doing it 40 years, but I’ve had some that hadn’t. Great podcast.
