When you said we would recognize the piece, I thought, “Hah, you overestimate me,” but when you started playing it became, “guess I underestimated myself…”
@@originalstarwalker21 around 1-2 years if you want to go through the ladder. This was my 5th piece ever on piano. Played it perfectly within 4 months of piano.
@@sean3587 Do you know how much musicality goes into playing something like this even near to perfect? It is an incredible amount, and you sure as hell cannot develop such musicality in 5 pieces, and 4 months.
@@originalstarwalker21 I've been playing the piano for years now and performed the piece for a teacher with a PhD, and 30 years of experience in piano. I scored a 10. You're overthinking the difficulty of this piece. Tempo and piano dynamics aren't that difficult to follow. It took me 4 months to play the piece in excellence. I don't want to be impolite, but are you above 30? I was 16 when I learned this piece. As you age, learning music becomes difficult. It Sure as hell IS POSSIBLE to develop such "musicality."
my dad used to play this song all of the time when i was little. he still plays, but not often. i loved hearing this song again :) brought a nice feeling of comfort and nostalgia
this is so nostalgic to me. when I was younger, I was trained professionally for russian style ballet(I was maybe, idk. 8? 9? I'm almost 21 now), and sadly I can't dance anymore because of muscle issues. my old ballet teacher used to play this and a bunch of other Chopin Nocturnes and Waltzes for warm ups, and hearing this being played so beautifully just really brought back memories and actually made me cry a little. I'm a fairly good pianist now, but I want to learn Chopin's Nocturnes and Etudes in Order, and I have no doubt that I'll cry when learning this piece, but it'll be worth it ^_^
As a fellow pianist around the same age, I really appreciate you humor coupled with genuine artistry. Your channel is kind of like two set violin/ ray Chen’s comedy channel. Keep up the good work! 😁
fun fact: chopins "twisty turning" of the music in the first repeat of the first melody is actually a form of varitation. basically chopin took the lazy way out and did the variation using trills and such
Other people probably heard of this piece from the Internet or shows or commercials or anything I first knew this piece because it was the demo sound on my electric keyboard
Finally, you've opened the door wide open and discovered what makes these dudes (Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, etc) masters. Just add a lot of repeated notes at different speeds to produce magical tunes. Who would have thought?!
That "plop" at the end makes it!!! Greetings from Holland. Love the way you're playing. (i myself play piano for 40 years now almost, but not as good as you)
So pleased to have just discovered your channel 😊 as you are such a talented pianist. I enjoy your comments and love seeing the score at the top of the screen as you play; it provides so much to listen to and think about when watching these performances (and they definitely will be inspiring us to learn new pieces ourselves...so thank you 💜)
You are an excellent pianist. I love watching your videos, your little comments make the video so much better. I don't play a lot of classical music, but this past fall I got a new piano teacher when I left for college and he is making me learn this piece, and man this piece is kicking my butt. Any advice on learning this piece it is mainly the left hand for me the jumps and awkward chords Chopin likes to add.
This is the closest to how I play this piece too. But I can never play it error-free while recording. I choke when on camera. I do great when nobody's watching, then choke when recording. Then I hurry it up to get to the end before I make a mistake. Lol. Good job man. It's hard to slow down smoothly from the trill near the end. You did it with flourish.
Hi Will 👋 Have you tried giving the left hand chords voicing before? Each note from the chord has its own melody, and it's good practice to make the piece colorful It's also good for hand independency and polyphonic texture practice
I once practoced the first Page bcs im rarely allowed to copyright something and I mostly practice from the notes from musescore I THEN asked my piano teacher if we could practice THIS piece and she said that the left Hand is very hard because of the hatd jumps and so on(which is true) But I then slowed her and she was shocked that I played the first Page without any mistakes So it is one of the piece that was revolutionary for me because I impressed my piano teacher
You are so great, I love your interpretation and style all the way around!!! But please get that beautiful Shigeru tuned up especially the D6, Db6 area!
Бах и Бетховен убили мое желание в детстве заниматься музыкой, Шопен их это желание вернул в 30. Спасибо, я смотрю ваши видео и ради лучшего чтения нотного текста) надеюсь на автоперевод☺️👌
By the way, I *really* appreciate the sound and voicing colors of that piano (in your home???) Yes, it has its moments of sounding like a console with its high treble range just a tad tinny at times, but minimally, esp. given the room acoustics you deal with. My own preference would be to hear you play this on a large Steinway. Sighs. One can't have it all, all the time!
i know the original piece is intended to be played a bit walze-like, and dunno why or where i've heard it in this other way, but i actually like when it's played a bit slower and melancholic
So I recently played this in front of a dozen or so other musicians in my band as there happened to be a piano where we were taking a tour around and I cracked under the pressure and forgot all the left hand parts 😃. Still doesn't reduce my love for the piece, even if it does bring back a slight discomfort and wish for another chance.
unfortunately, very few pianists other than Rubenstein really play the notes marked CON FORZA with the volume and passion that Chopin apparently intended. When they do, it is the most dramatic measure of the piece. Try it.
How long did it take you to learn this piece? I’ve been learning it for one month now and I only have measures 18 - 37 done. I started on last measure then go forward. You play very well. ❤
That's a grand piano it seems, they're usually pretty expensive, but they're worth every penny. I'd recommend one from Yamaha, if you want a bright tone. And I'd recommend one from Kawai if you want a warmer tone.
I have a baby grand from K Kawai, I absolutely love it, in the lowest octave the fidelity drops a bit because it’s less space, but they’re way cheaper than grands haha
No offense, but why do the treble notes sound so hollow and echo so much? Tuning? Voicing? Or just an effect of the recording on a phone? The performance was very nice. Very sweet interpretation. Liked it a lot.
I’m not reading anything :) if you wait to the end for the music to disappear you can see the piano is closed haha one afternoon to memorise and one afternoon to try to get nice takes
