You are right and that's part of the challenge. We've done it in many countries where they don't understand the concept of it and in many counties they don't speak English, that's why we thought the language would help explain that it's an adventure and that we're making videos about the kindness of strangers. We never expected anyone to understand the concept 100%. We did meet quite a few Indians who new the word hitchhiking later on in our travels and we know Indian TH-camrs who hitchhike and use the word hitchhike. Mountain trekker is one of them and he's really. If on TH-cam 😊🙏
It might be so but we still don't use the word hitchhike when we ask for rides so there no need to further discuss it. Hitchhiking is easy for foreigners in India. We hitchhiked a total of 10 days and only waited more than 20 minutes once and that was in this video. Most rides we got in less than 10 minutes and we didn't use the word lift either, just simply asked if we could go in their cars. 😊🙏 Our message is to spread love and kindness, not to discuss which words to use when we hitchhike. Thanks for engaging 😊👍🏼
@@TimezoneJunkies by the way, much of the Indian speaks, or at least understand English..........now India is second English speaking country just after USA
Thanks to all the guys who helped this couple, and make us Indian feel proud. @timezone junkies I personally Feeling sorry to you for some idiots, who tried to desecrate your tour/mission. Welcome again in India. ☺️
Easiest way to hitchhike in india is ask Trucks for lift(as they generally travel for longer range). Almost 100% chance if you are able to communicate with the driver. ( It's my personal experience, I have taken lift so many times to avoid bus fares)
You hitchhike in the cars that stop. Sometimes trucks sometimes cars. You can't decide in advance if a truck will stop. I India we hitchhiked in 1 truck and around 30 cars. Thanks for watching!
Your case is different. They know you guys are foreigners and they are ready to help you. But in the case of a local, cars drivers don't tend to help us out. So trucks are the best and only choice for us if we are looking for a free ride. (and trucks always stops no matter if you're a local or not. But not all of them stops obviously)
You should use umbrella whenever in open sky to protect from harmful sunlight. Because in India summer session starts from March to October...anyways what's next plan?
Thanks for the advice! We live in Spain where we get up to 40 degrees Celsius in the summer and no one carries umbrellas but people sometimes wear hats. Also to carry umbrellas when backpacking and hitchhiking it’s a bit much! There’s already too much luggage 😂 This video is from 2019 and we’ve just spent two months in 2023 travelling around the state of Kerala. Thanks for watching 😀
@@TimezoneJunkies yeah recently I watched your Kerala vlog too did you explore Easter part of India or not if not must explore like Kolkata is a massive city, Darjeeling Hilly city, Guwahti, Sikkim, Meghalaya and many other cities....I hope you will not ignore my recommendation.....love you from Lucknow❤🌹🙏🇮🇳
We haven’t yet. We have a 5 year visa and can come back as many times as we want within that time and spend 3 months every time. We don’t like rushing through a country so we will take our time. So we won’t ignore your recommendations but it won’t be this trip. Thanks for watching our content.
Dont drink cold drinks while in hot desert like areas instead drink water and hot tea .plus keep onion with you. When you feel uncomfirtable then break onion and smell it.
That's not very pleasant. We used to live in Sevilla in Spain. That city also get temperatures like that in the summer. Everyone stays indoors or escape to the coast where the temperature is lower.
Since I'm a TH-camr myself, I experience the pain of recording a video and making it publishable everyday. You're doing a great job. Love from India! :)
We are about 3 months behind with our videos because we film so much when we're on the road, but only get time to edit 2 videos a week as we are very picky with the edits and also need time to actually travel and experience. Thanks for watching this video and don't forget to watch our latest series from Central Asia. Good luck with your channel!
Yeah, we have also watched Mountain Trekker! He really shows the reality of hitchhiking! Great guy! Thanks for subscribing and we hope you will enjoy our upcoming videos!

It was only the heat and that bad spot in the beginning of the day that made it exhausting. Don't hitchhike through the desert in the summer 😂 Ot was an interesting day though. Thanks as always for watching! 🙏😊
@Li saaa If you have watched the video then you know that at no point do we say the word hitchhike to any of the drivers. It was actually a very easy day apart from getting the first ride and the heat. We use the hitchhiking in the title and in our video for our audience as not all our viewers are Indian plus it is a universally used word. Thanks for watching and commenting.
How old are you guys? Edit: When I've hitch hitched hiked I've found it beneficial to fly a flag so people know where you're from and how far you've come. Nice to meet u Alex sir and mam We always give respect and love to our guest in India If u feel any discourage uncomfort from any people in India tour of hiktckaching than sorry from my side. ... ty ..
Lift is not the same as hitchhiking as it doesn't mean it's for free, even though we would have got further saying "free lift" instead of "free ride" maybe. It was only our first ride that was tricky to get as it was in a populated area. We've hitchhiked 31.000 kilometres mainly through countries where they don't speak English our understand hitchhiking. So this was not a new situation for us. 😊 Thanks for watching! 😊🙏
The meaning of the word is to get a ride, not necessarily a free ride. We don't ask for a "hitchhike" we ask for free lifts or rides. Hitchhiking means getting free lifts and rides. Simple as that but you can't ask for a hitchhike, it's not a noun like lift is. 😄🙏
We have hitchhiked through 20 countries and the "rules" for hitchhiking are different in every country. We're definitely not arrogant. Hitchhiking in India is great and easy and we don't know why you think we had a difficult time except trying to get that first ride 😃

I am from India. Hitch hiking is not a concept in India. People would like to go by train instead. However, I like your spirit and enjoyed your journey.
Wow ! You were right, I LOOOOVED this episode ! I have a couple of questions though : Malin, do you think as a solo woman you would feel safe hitchhiking on your own in India ?? Have you wildcamped in India ? How was it ? Thank you so much for this episode, I hope you'll show us more hitchhiking adventures in India !!!
I can never answer those solo female hitchhiking questions as I've never hitchhiked solo anywhere. Not sure about India. I guess It's like with any other place you'd have to really feel the energy from the person before getting in the car. We later hitchhiked in the foothills of the Himalayas and it was even easier and it somehow felt safer but maybe only because there were no freaky selfie mobs going on up there. In Rajasthan everyone wanted selfies with me. When I stick my thumb out and Alex is not visible guys seem to want to stop but when they we Alex they change their minds and keep driving. This is not only in India though. So all I can say is feel the energy before getting in the car. Don't put your bag in the boot so that you can easily get out of the car if you for some reason feel uncomfortable. 😊
Thanks for your answer Malin ! It's just thay obviously in the news we hear so many horror stories about women in India that I just don't know what to expect... I guess you can't really know until you get there... I also think at some point you should race Alex in a hitchhiking trip, that would be a really fun video !!! :D And that way you can show us what it's like to hitchhike as a solo woman :)

Unfortunately, LIFT is the only common word which locals are aware, and might not understand the term "hitchhiking". It is sad to see that people are more of interested in getting money rather than helping for free.
Our message is to spread love and kindness, not to discuss which words to use when we hitchhike. Thanks for engaging 😊👍🏼
@@TimezoneJunkies by the way, much of the Indian speaks, or at least understand English..........now India is second English speaking country just after USA

There’s already too much luggage 😂

Dont drink cold drinks while in hot desert like areas instead drink water and hot tea .plus keep onion with you. When you feel uncomfirtable then break onion and smell it.

Wow u guys are amazing just found this channel subbed love from India 💕
Thank you 🙏💛
Hitchhiking is called in India Bhai I need lift till jodhpur 😂 no one will know the word meaning hitchhiking
We don't ask to hitchhike. It's not possible grammatically. It's a term describing the act of standing by the road asking for lifts.
😂😂
How old are you guys? Edit: When I've hitch hitched hiked I've found it beneficial to fly a flag so people know where you're from and how far you've come. @@ravikanttyagi9633 Hello
You just need to tell them that we are traveling only by lift (lift = hitchhiking)

I have a couple of questions though :
Malin, do you think as a solo woman you would feel safe hitchhiking on your own in India ??
Have you wildcamped in India ? How was it ?
Thank you so much for this episode, I hope you'll show us more hitchhiking adventures in India !!!
I can never answer those solo female hitchhiking questions as I've never hitchhiked solo anywhere. Not sure about India. I guess
It's like with any other place you'd have to really feel the energy from the person before getting in the car.
@@WanderingFrenchy i m indian , i would advice you not to hitch hike as sole female traveller but if u really want to try hitch hike then do it in states that are more used to tourists like kerala, goa, tamil nadu
@@WanderingFrenchy India is not a very safe destination for solo women travellers. There are a lot of creeps like those teenagers. It's quite safe if you have somebody travelling with you

Unfortunately, LIFT is the only common word which locals are aware, and might not understand the term "hitchhiking". It is sad to see that people are more of interested in getting money rather than helping for free. I do apologize to you for such an experience, and I know we still need a lot to do for proving "Atithi Devo Bhava", which means tourists are guests in the form of GOD.
