@JAYCUB912, Not entirely so. If your pc, laptop or desktop doesn't have a wireless card installed, you can plug it directly to the router which is also connected to the modem itself. You'd only need a wireless card installed in your pc, laptop etc if you want to use it unplugged from the router itself.
i have a question....if the computer is not hooked up to the wireless router can other computer get the wireless signal??

i have a smaller router but its linksys my other computer has a big router the same as that one. I dont have a disc to install the smaller router can i still connect without the disc.
Uhhhh.... where did the other end of that internet cable go? In the back of the modem, I take it... but what does the end of it look like? My modem doesn't have a lot of ports that look like they would fit it...
yes you can play live on this, but you just have to make sure that the internet settings on your system is correct
Do you have to have a computer connected to router by wire for the wireless to work through out the house? I just want the router to work WIRELESSLY without having any computers directly connected to it with an ethernet cord...

That's weird because I called them today about a problem with a light on my router (one that's not important) had gone out.

I have LINKSYS. I'm trying to use it to get a "STRONGER" signal with a Wifi connection on my computer I already have. My computer usually gets the Wifi signal without it. Just wanna make it stronger. How do I make this happen?

@Evo10Rocks my router, the same router in the vid is stupid as well. when i play Halo Reach when i get into a game i get disconected and i quit the game and i get banned for 10 minutes for quitting too much games. LinkSys routers screw up too easliy. go with maximum range wireless N router. it can also vary on what cable u use. i think Time Warner Cable does not have that good of a high speed internet.
im paying for wired internet. i just connect the enthernet cable to one of these will i have wifi??

Just get a 54g and put dd-wrt on it works great i have two one as a main and the other as a repeater they work great 54gs on the other hand sucks

Okay so basically the Ethernet cable,from the modem, is supposed to be plugged in into the router instead of the computer for it to send a signal and then from there if you don't have a wireless card or wireless adapter you need another Ethernet cable that will connect the computer to the router? who knows?
when i plug in the power cord, the part that says "cisco systems" blinks once an doesn't come back on, why is that?

Ok so you got a used one these it has a name going out how do you read the password ?
I have CD rom I go through procedure connect to Ethernet then to computer a CD rom menu tells me punch in a password but keeps booting me out won't read the router tell me the password someone put in ?
The easy set up button is not outlined how to use just that it opens up router for few minutes .
It's a good route I don't get it I'm the owner and should be able to get the password someone put in it? Also reset same crap . Any suggestions

It will but a Wireless router is wayyy more expensive than the corded alternative. I suggest that you get a regular multi-port router and enjoy the XBL! Or you can just sacrifice your computer internet and use its Ethernet cable. :D

I get your point there is wires when it comes to wireless routers there is still wires Involved the wire going from your router to the back of your computer the Internet comes from your router and possibly satellites orbiting the earth sounds a bit out of this world but it's possible.
@godlydoor320 I'm going to guess that you are using Windows 7 on the computer that is having the issue that you have described. A HUGE flaw in Windows 7, it cannot hibernate at all or your connection is history. Get used to rebooting every single time your computer rests, sleeps or just isn't used for a few minutes. I know, it really sucks-and we have 2 of our computers on 7 too. At least the other 3 don't do that. Two are on XP Pro and one is on Vista. They're both fine in the same circumstance

I play on PS2 online and everytime I try to connect a ethernet cod into one of the router ports, it never connects me online. it says "Connection Failure. Check Ethernet cord.". Works fine when I connect it to my internet modem. What am I doing wrong??

@liljunior805 your laptop has to be wi fi ready...the way this guy is showing it is if your lapto is in another room...you can have trouter near the laptop yet away from the cable connected to the wall

when i do this my computer say 100 mbps but when i go to internet i doesnt work. and my xbox says my router name but when i go to test the connection it says internet not connected.

@Evo10Rocks dude, a wired connection will always be faster than a wireless connection. thats just common sense. its the same reason why cable will always be better than sattelite tv. what lame is that you couldnt figure that out.

i have this router and it keeps like disconnecting itself from the internet every day, i unplug and plug the power back in for a temparary fix, any1 kno a permanent fix or is it broken and time to upgrade????
