Hey fellas is it gay to have a codependent relationship with your work partner to the point where you send people to check his apartment, and once you locate him to sit two days in a disguise watching him?
not to mention complaining about everything he did right in his face the moment your found him, acting like a spolied wife. if not seeing this cut, I would thought Jean is always short-termpered.
@@xianzhang4722 I think it's because he's dealt with Harry's self destructive bullshit for so long, probably knew him during the brief time he was happy and married, and over the decades proceeding has seen harry slowly drink himself into oblivion, go on worse and worse benders, become more and more emotionally unhinged. And yet, it's his job and he feels his duty to clean up the mess. Kim is compassionate because not only his character, but he has just met harry. Jean's been his partner for 20 fucking years. I think that would even turn Kim sour tempered. (And plus, despite all of that - Harry is obviously a really good cop).
Yup. He and Harry are clinically depressed, as he himself says, but can’t give up on their job because it’s the only thing they have. It’s a bit sad, a trauma bonding situation of working in an abusive job, but, nonetheless, having nothing else to live for.
The game really doesn't punish taking your sweet time to complete any task or doing them out of expected/suggested order. This shivers will only show on day 1 or 2 and haven't used the radio in Kim's car yet to contact the precinct yet (even though the game tells you that you must report your missing badge ASAP). I noticed that not punishing slow or non-completion of tasks elsewhere: if you don't find your own ledger, Kim will let you use his during the autopsy. This gives you the oppertunity to look into Kim's previous case files and his opinion about you. During a "perfect" play, where you find your own ledger before the autopsy, you will miss out on that. An other example: don't use Kim's UV headlights untill late in the game, get the communist revolutionary ushanka and when asking Kim about what hobby to pickup he will say "Why not historical reenactment? You've already got that turn of the century revolutionary hat...". Or get Rene's carabineer clothing and he will suggest reenactment because "You've already got that antique carabineer gear...". A great game indeed, so many small details that you will miss out on if you only play the game once or twice. There is no need to achieve perfection, mess and fool around a bit and experience the fun you can have with the many paths that you can take.
this forgiving nature shows even in the checks, too - like how they show early on that failing them is not always a bad thing when you hit the wheelchair lady. The game is really convincing in wanting you to go all out and explore all possibilities, it's the RPG heaven
@@acidjumps Thanks for correcting me. You are right. My detailed response is getting ghosted, but the short version is: this can only show up after day 3 or later, given that shivers is high enough. On the first two days the game will give you some text about Judit. It will say: Patrol Officer Judit Minot stands beneath the awning overhanging the entrance, struggling to open her big black umbrella.
Martinaise feels like the only place in the world during the game, for Harry is quite literally is, so it's weird to think that, not very far away, he's got a home and people who care for him. He could walk there, if he wanted to, and rest in his own bed for the night. He isn't prevented from leaving by anything but his amnesia.
It's not because of the amnesia though, is it? Harry can actually remember where is his home if you internalize a "Lonesome Long Way Home" thought. "... Home awaits. Walk past Station 41 and through the market. Past the Boogie Street spearhead to the other side of the lake -- the frozen eye at the center of the district. Then past the video rental store on the corner. There, at the end of a street lined with pine trees: a small house, no larger than a matchbox. 11 Voyager Road..."
The exhausted stone walled delivery of the "Huh? Yeah." followed by the description of his umbrella almost exploding from opening it while being clearly distracted by the thoughts is just too good to me 0:36
Kim: "Most of our colleagues don't even know how to get here. **North** of the Interchange doesn't exist." Mack: "... you know, **south** of the interchange? The... what was it?" I know there's more dialog that mixes up directions but it's funnier to think Harry's colleagues literally don't know where he is
Man, I've never had this happen. Didn't either have the Shivers or the Esprit at the same time to trigger it in the first two days. Vicquemare's tired tone and concern over Harry is a nice detail to how he acts in person with Harry.
I’m sure this dialogue was added only in the Final Cut, too. It’s pretty clear now that Harry’s partner cares deeply for him and this explains why he acts very hurt when Harry doesn’t recognize him in the Whirling-in-Rags later in the game.
Explains why Jean loves and hates Harry so much. He must hate that the suicidal, schizophrenic drunk he has to keep from killing himself is also a supercop far better than him, but he loves the guy because they're partners after all
Definitely adds an interesting detail to their dynamic, at first I got the sense that Jean looked down on Harry just because he had become disgraced, but him being a satellite officer adds even more to the idea that he's so hard on Harry because he knows better than anyone how good of a detective he can be, especially since he's only the rank he is because of Harry.
@@micaiahborchers8914 One of the ranks in the RCM, it means your partner got promoted but you haven't. Harry is Lieutenant Double-Yefreitor, meaning not only did he get to the rank of Lieutenant, he was offered the rank of Captain twice and twice he turned it down. Jean is a Satellite Officer, meaning he never got promoted enough times to match Harry's rank
@@pabloc8808 I was under the understanding that Satellite Officer means Vicquemare is technically the same rank as DuBois, but only because they are partners and their ranks had to match. So, true, he didn't get 'properly' promoted like Harrier was, but he reached a higher rank thanks to him.
its a shivers orb with an extra esprit de corps check, you can get it stepping out of the whirling on the first day. 3 physical and 3 psychic should be enough to cover all the passive checks. i think it also has to be raining for it to appear? if it doesnt appear straight away, i also had it pop up when walking near kims kineema
@@holofernez Thanks for this video, I never got this text either but it isn't hard to get. Basically you can only get this early in the game, at the plaza during rain and if you haven't contacted your station yet via Kim's car and have reasonable Esprit de Corps. Unfortunately, since the game tells you that reporting your missing badge is a high priority, most players will have used Kim's radio early on. Contacting your station before this shiver is triggered will make you miss the dialogue as seen in the video. The exact conditions to trigger this shivers scene seem to be: have rain/snow on the central plaza, look South. Then (optional: ask where you live, why you are not there, where the hood is at) and "shiver. look further". It must be either day 1 or 2, and then it must rain (snow triggers "Patrol Officer Judit Minot stands beneath the awning overhanging the entrance, struggling to open her big black umbrella."). If it rains the game then checks if you contacted your station yet via the Kim's Kinema. If you DID contact your station you CANNOT trigger this shiver (the game checks for the variable "plaza.kineema_57th_hub" , which you get assigned when you use the radio), and instead all you get the text "Your vision blurs. You wipe your face with your hand. The rain stings your eyes, making you look up and blink.". But if you HAVE NOT used the radio yet (contacted the 41st via the 57th) yet, it will then display "(Esprit de Corps / Medium | Level 4) Satellite-Officer Jean Vicquemare rushes down the Precinct stairs, umbrella in hand. It's unopened. He doesn't seem pleased about the spring rain.". If you did PASS this EdC check then you will get the dialogue as shown in the video ("On the bridge, Officers Torson and McLaine are standing guard. Torson wears jeans and a fishnet wifebeater. Satellite-Officer Vicquemare passes by, and the young man remarks to him..." etc.). If you FAILED the EdC check, you will be given an easy EdC check, which says "It's the only home you have now. But you can't go back. Not like this.". It will then jump to "Your vision blurs. You wipe your face with your hand. The rain stings your eyes, making you look up and blink." and then back to the central dialogue. So if you have a shivers event at the central plaza, and look south but ONE) it's day 3 or later.... TWO) day 1-2 but you contact your station already... THREE) it's snowing. Then you will miss out out this regardless of your Esprit de Corps skill. It thus can only be triggered on day 1-2, when it rains and if you have a reasonable amount of EdC skill. For who wants to see the exact conditions or other text, check either the Disco Reader (GitLab) website or FAYDE Playback On-Air website. Conversation 39, Node 57 and onward.
