    I have a shearwater 3. Lovely boat. Undergoing restoration and I don't know how to rig it

    A mention of Nathaniel Herrechoff and Amaryllis would have been nice since he was the man who started the cat craze back in the 1930,s and not the Prouts as stated although they did popularise multihull sailing in Britain in the 1960,s. Hobey was doing much the same work in California at the same time

      yes indeed they did as did a lot of the pacific. The name catamaran comes from the Tamil language meaning "tied wood" but these were essentially outriggers designed for stability. The reference i assume you are referring to is that of the Shearwater being the original design. Indeed it is in its modern commercial sense and it is the boat from which all modern racing catamarans can trace their history. Thanks for watching
