great job on the fix. just FYI (and not sure if it's been mentioned yet), the e39 is notorious for having the vapor barrier inside the doors fail, which then allows water to leak into your footwells and pool up under the carpet/foam insulation. Easy fix, take off the door panel, check the vapor barrier and use butyl tape to make sure its all sealed up. Tons of tutorials on how, worth doing considering the amount of work you put into repairing the footwell.
Also, evilBay... Been able to replace all of the 1970s vintage Craftsman ratchets that finally failed on me in the past 10-20 years with good working examples.
