DK you've covered this team for years, you know what will happen... Tomlin will coach his current contract extension out then he won't be resigned. They won't do anything before that
We really appreciate you making episodes like this ahead of Saturdays "game" DK. It's very important for Art to realize that this fanbase is tired and this football team has been mediocre for way too long. This is a football town, we know football. We realize when our team is terrible.
Not a bad show DK. If GP catches three out of the six balls that came his way that Bengals game goes entirely different. Our defense did their job. As for the playoff wins etc. I would’ve been more disappointed if we entered the playoffs needing help. But we took care of business early and we earned the right to be there just like the other teams so I feel like we should be shifting our mind to something different. Which takes me to my J1Q; have you heard Tomlin or even the skilled players on offense talk about what they’re doing to not fumble the ball? Pat, GP, Najee, Jaylen, CA3, heck even Russ has fumbled the ball either during the postseason or this season. Are we coaching those guys up? Is that even a topic because I really feel like it needs to be.
If the Steelers lose to the Ravens, Art Rooney needs to put his words into action and force Mike to make coaching staff changes and or force him to be more aggressive on defense next season and blitz more often because as you’ve told us before. He’s the one that calls the defensive plays.
@wvufan2325 the way this Rooney running team i wish he would sell it to someone who knows how to run a organization in the 2000"s he still stuck in 70's
Tomlin does this to himself his Philosophy going into some of these games, holds this team back And what he’s trying to prevent happens, you would think he would learn that you have to out score your opponent
There was definitely much more of that enthusiasm and hope in this season compared to last season bro so idk what you’re talking about. We started 10-3 with two great QBs and a great defense. I blame Arthur smith playcalling more than anything else honestly especially lately, he’s been horrendous, hope it changes in playoffs but I doubt it .
@@HellxAngelz There was little enthusiasm for this season outside of Fields. This season was a more wait-and-see approach with cautious optimism at 10-3, then the balloon burst.

Thank you DK. Once again it feels like a lot of different problems have come up. The difference is it is at the next level now. If they plan on winning this game, they have to play at a playoff level. I believe they can, we have seen them do it against the Ravens. All three levels must play well. Another great show DK.
Simply excellent Dejan, nothing to add to such a complete view of Mr Rooney complicity on this team constant failures. He is no doubt a great person, a member of the family that has created the best franchise of football in the modern era. But there is a limit for being supporting a core of coaches that leaded by Tomlin have nothing to offer for being the six lombardis winner and the team that was feared by many as a permanent contender and not a simply pretender. Things has to change and fast, we do still have a great front office, let's bring back the pride, wake up call to Mr Rooney. If not we will be shortly another NY Giants, Dallas Cowboys and even Raiders, who only live on their history, always in the bottom of the standings. All the best Lazaro
Morning DK!!! Been a while! I really have never liked the whole defense wins championships thing. I think it’s the teams that have balance in both sides of the ball that wins championships. You have to have an offense that can score and control the the ball and a defense that’s going to keep the other offense off balance and give your offense more opportunities. We don’t have that right now.
Art isn't half the football man his Dad was. THAT'S the problem. He's a soft, complicit owner who is more interested in profit and PR than winning championships.
This is my theory. Tomlin is a defensive minded coach. Everyone knows this. The Steelers have invested a lot of their cap space/salary to the defense. For that reason, Tomlin prefers to lean on that highly paid, highly skilled defense to help engineer victory as he often says. He really needs a capable offensive minded to manage the offense bc it’s not his forte. Arthur Smith & Russ were brought in to manage and lead the offense. I do believe that the Steelers offense lacks talent across the board. Pickens is the only guy opposing defenses fear. Khan, Tomlin and Rooney have to realize you can’t just expect mid tier guys to go out and execute. They’re mid tier for a reason. They lack other go-to guys that can win consistently. That goes for the OL as well. As a group, they’re not consistent or dominant which impacts your mid-tier skill players ability to win.
Losing to the Bills on the road didn't leave that much of an impact. They're a good team. Losing to the Ravens, a division rival you were supposed to be "familiar" with will shatter any remaining delusions that Mike Tomlin is the guy moving forward.
Good morning DK I got a question have you ever seen Mike Tomlin with the tablet playbook anything in his hand helping the Steelers move forward in the game I’ve seen all the great to have one never seen him with one. He just got that beanie on his head and deer in the headlights lol.
I want to think since we reached 10-3 and solidified the playoffs that the team has been putting on a front/faux (so teams can't pick up on their plays that are coming), using the past 4 weeks as practice,,, but the last few years tells a different story 😢
Hey DK! Love all your content. Who makes up the Steelers "Front Office" when it comes to making a decision on the Head Coach? Obviously Art II, but who else would weigh in on the subject? Would Omar have a say? I heard Art II's son Dan is touted to eventually take over. Does he currently have any say? Thanks!
Rooney's accountability really begins with not accepting that Ben's best years, and the team as it was constructed, within the realities of how the NFL boom-bust cycle works, was done by the end of 2018. The Ravens are largely where they are, because they accepted they weren't going anywhere with Flacco, and it was time to move on. Then he made it worse, by basically forcing the org to bring back Ben for 2021, thereby just extending what was a team build cycle that was completely out of balance. Then this nonsense about they want to be 'serious' and win playoff games. You need young stars, with a young dynamic qb with great passing abilities to do that. We don't have that, and just buying Russ and Fields cheap for a year, just proves more we don't. Team won't go anywhere seriously without a franchise QB that can play with the dudes in the AFC. Frankly I don't even think that's going to be realistic unless they find the next generational talent. But you can't start by drafting 20th every freaking year, and without being able to trade to get more draft capital, because it will jeopardize falling to the top 5 picks 'naturally'. Aka - losing. And you can blame Mike or Kevin or whoever, but the bottom line is, Rooney refused to admit, it was time to lose as the league intends after you've had a good franchise QB for so long.
In response to the J1Q......HS coach here. I've coached under guys who have had offensive and defensive backgrounds. From my anecdotal experience guys with the defensive backgrounds have a harder time seeing the game from a wider lens. Everything is funneled through their expertise. The offensive minded guys have had an easier time seeing the game from a wider lens. They see the defensive perspective of the game more easily than defensive minded guys see the offensive perspective. Again this is just my anecdotal experience as a whole. It's not always the case, but it leans heavy that way. My current boss has a defensive background, but he does a great job viewing the game in totality and from all perspectives. I get a lot of autonomy w/ how I run our offense. I think you'll find a common denominator amongst successful head coaches w/ defensive backgrounds. They want their team to play a certain brand of ball, but they're also flexible and can adjust to the skill sets of their teams offensively. Parcels was able to do it. Belichick was able to do this. Cowher was able to do it. Amongst others.
We are in QB purgatory. We win enough to not be able to replace Ben. I think go with Justin next year and sink or swim. I’d love to see that kid figure it all out and succeed!
Wow, DK, some true and tough remarks this morning at the same time we are playing Baltimore you know they don’t want us to win but the pressure is more on them than us, but you just flipped it like it’s on us because we can’t go on a five games losing streak Which doesn’t sound crazy but at the same time remember this season was set up so who Mike Tomlin can get his first losing season and he did not we almost won our division so I’m thankful but at the same time I am pissed off and frustrated because our offense is not clicking hopefully this week we have a better performance and going to the next year a lot better we can’t make a run, but it’ll be a miracle if we went to Super Bowl This year
People just can't grasp the fact that in today's NFL you have to have a good QB. Even with a good running game and D. Tomlin has to stop out thinking himself
Sat night, they made more splash plays then we did, we own it, we'll go back to the lab, obviously that was a freshman team out there, not the kind of effort THEY should be giving at this juncture in the season, obviously...

Well, at least we are not going to Buffalo or KC - but, of course, be careful what you wish for. Honestly, the focus should already be on to Justin Fields or no next year. Sad, yes, I know.
There is no sense of urgency. It’s rinse and repeat. A lot of Steelers fans are completely checked out, the season is still going but you wouldn’t know it sometimes. Morale is extremely low 😂
Winning in playoffs ! Is a must whoever Coaches the Steelers but We sound like a 3-14 or 5-11 team the last 4 yrs ! Post Ben and No franchise QB still ..Just a new face at head Coach makes us feel good
Just my personal opinion….. the Steelers are suffering from stagnation, this is due to the fact that Tomlin has been the coach for 18 years and has seemingly had unwavering job security. In my opinion, coaches tend to perform differently (better) when they feel their job security depends on it. The stubbornness and staunched behavior of Tomlin suggests to me that he is too comfortable which can breed a degree of complacency. Pressure breeds meaningful change thus success. There’s just no pressure on Tomlin to me. He treats running the Pittsburgh Steelers like it’s a recreational thing. Again, just my hot take.
Mike Tomlin has been the problem due to his stubbornness in team philosophy & direction however after a while you have to stop blaming Tomlin and start blaming Rooney. Can you imagine a Steelers team who doesn't blitz... intentionally? You have a HC who is bent on proving he's right. The plan doesn't work and never will. It's Groundhog's Day season after season.
@@jameslee8519 he's not wrong. He wasted years of tj and cam with Matt Canada on the staff. He won't start Warren over najiee. He benched bishop for sutton when bishop has been getting int all year.
Is anyone tired of watching Mike Tomlin teams have no answers and no real plan? Love the guy but come on, the coaching is average at best. As SOON as the coach of the year talk started I knew we wouldn’t win another game. Nobody reads their own headlines like Mike T.
Who was Tomlin when they replaced Cowher with Tomlin? Answer: an unknown 1 year defensive coordinator that wowed the Rooney’s with his penchant for spewing BS and empty sound bites.
I've been calling out the Rooneys for the last 6 years. I was ripped incessantly for this on some Steeler message and comment boards. But now... The Rooneys don't care about the fans. They care about money, history and stability. They know the fans are too loyal and will continue to fill the stands and buy merchandise.
The Standard defined: Fast starts, slow finishes and slow starts and fast finishes without enough time left to matter is and has been the standard. No significant coaching as they consistently come out flat, no adjustments made and the same zone defense that a jr varsity team could figure out. Tomlin inherited a roster of players from Cowher and all he had to do was manage talent. Talent alone does not win games he has proven that. Once again Cinderella’s hopes have turned into a pumpkin
You keep saying something needs to change, but this past off-season there was a huge amount of change that occurred. I’m curious what Mr Rooney thinks else needs to change
It doesn't matter what the fans want. As long as the franchise makes money, Rooney has no incentive to make a change. He knows the team is mediocre, and mediocrity doesn't win championships, but it does generate enough revenues to cover all financial liabilities and earn a decent profit. In fact, the TV revenue share practically guarantees a profit. The bottom line is what Rooney cares about. So why strive for a championship? For Rooney, close enough is good enough.
All the your saying is A GŔEAT QB make great decisions for holes in the offense.. Mahomes, Jackson , Golf, Burrow etc etc then a good RB to run the time out
I am no fan of Tomlin. but he has a point. controlling the timeee of possession is a key indicator on who wins the game. like tracking turnovers.. you have a well rested defense.
DK i want to get under your skin a bit. The ""media"" I have heard recently has been talking about how they think the Steelers as a whole dont have the players to have the record they have. They talked about how they think that it is Tomlins coaching that has gotten them wins that they shouldnt have gotten. So are the talking heads on to something?
Rooney's urgency isn't so urgent when he fills important roster spots with players he is able to get at a bargain. The bargain basement is full of irregulars. Sometimes you have to spend money to get quality. There were some good receivers available in free agency, or by trade, that were passed on, along with other positions that were key needs for the team. You get what you pay for.
Hey DK. Great show as always. I seem to be in the minority when it comes to coach Tomlin, because despite his stubbornness and his flaws, I think that he's a great coach that has proven that he can do more with less than any other coach. And I am also just as sick of a lack of playoff success as any other fan,but I don't think that it's fair to put all of the blame on Tomlin for coming up short. There's a myriad of factors that go into winning and losing in the NFL, and the best teams are almost always well rounded in all 3 phases of the game, including a good QB, a solid offensive line, and good coordinators to compliment the head coach. And we have a lot of good players, but we haven't had good a consistently good quarterback since Ben, and the coordinators that we've had were obviously not good enough. So, my question to you is how much blame does Tomlin deserve for the hiring and firing of coaches and coordinators? Obviously he has more power and influence than almost any other coach, and I assume that he and Omar Khan are essentially on the same level when it comes to making personnel decisions. But, Art Rooney II still writes the checks. So, as far as hiring coordinators go, is that strictly up to Tomlin, or does Art have the final say? For example, is it possible that Tomlin wanted Brian Flores to stick around and become the defensive coordinator, but Art didn't want to spend the money for a coordinator of Flores' caliber?
#J1Q DK, analysts always talk about NFL rookies losing steam late in their first season bc of college, the combine, the draft, etc. Regarding rookies Frazier and McCormick playing most of the snaps this season in the OL, do you think this has significantly impacted the Steelers offense in the latter part of this season? JB, Atlanta
It's ALREADY been years and years and years and YEARS that tomlin has NOT produced anything good for this team!! He is a fraud!! Rooney needs to open his eyes because it's already been WAY TOO LONG and these players (except najee and wilson) deserve to make it to superbowl!! Tomlin is, and has been, holding them back and it's just not right!!
We need a QB , We need a top QB , We need to take the risk to go get one... We also need a top WR and be willing to pay.... We also need a new defensive coordinator..
The problem is everybodies put it on Tomlin he's a great HC it's his hiring of position coaches that needs to be checked we need experienced, proven coaches not giving guys a shot and I feel that's what Mike Tomlin does trying to pay it forward , just a he got a shot

The scheme keeps him away from the ball. Being just covering the top all season. Keeping playmaker away from the rock because the rest of the DBs are trash is not a good thing.
Rooney's words mean about as much as Tomlin's nonsensical ramblings-absolutely nothing.
💯
Awesome Commentary DK!
DK was hoping you would touch on this!! Thanks
The two Cincy games say it all
If the Steelers lose to the Ravens, Art Rooney needs to put his words into action and force Mike to make coaching staff changes and or force him to be more aggressive on defense next season and blitz more often because as you’ve told us before. He’s the one that calls the defensive plays.
@wvufan2325 it doesn't make a difference who coaches it's still MT philosophy he's the problem.
@wvufan2325 the way this Rooney running team i wish he would sell it to someone who knows how to run a organization in the 2000"s he still stuck in 70's
Bad coaching, poor adjustments, bad game planing, bad ownership
But you continue to watch
But you still watching
Watt, Heyward ,Highsmith are the only ones earning their money !
I'll add: bad execution by the players, and bad morale.
@@keithmadison6085Boswell how you forget
the J1Q was spot on defense used to win superbowls that rules have changed you must have a great offense and it will never be with tomlin
Tomlin does this to himself his Philosophy going into some of these games, holds this team back And what he’s trying to prevent happens, you would think he would learn that you have to out score your opponent
Last year there was enthusiasm & hope, this season simply sucks. This STANDARD SUCKS.
the season can't 'suck' if they are in the playoffs. It's not a good season from all the stated problems....but it doesn't suck. A 7-9 would suck

There was little enthusiasm for this season outside of Fields. This season was a more wait-and-see approach with cautious optimism at 10-3, then the balloon burst.
#steelers fans for the rest of the week, lets be positive towards our team. Lets not complain Lets worry about that stuff on the off season, right now We have the Ravens we see them 2ice a year. This is a good thing we can beat them, positive talks and vibes only. #herewego
Thank you DK. Once again it feels like a lot of different problems have come up. The difference is it is at the next level now. If they plan on winning this game, they have to play at a playoff level. I believe they can, we have seen them do it against the Ravens. All three levels must play well. Another great show DK.
Yeah, unfortunately the only person who lives more in his fears than Tomlin, is Art
Don’t disrespect Mr Rooney . Go be a browns fan then
hur hur
Okay pal
Maybe you should go to the participation trophy group
Great point, DK about the Ravens and Eagles !
The Spiciness of Daily Shot is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The person who owns the team has the luxury of BSing whoever he wants saying whatever he wants. It has always been this way.
PR? - Dejan
Hope you're right
This team is in no position to act on Art's gentle exhortations
As the age-old saying goes... It all starts with the Offensive Line.
Morning DK, I'm listening 🎧
Rooney approved everything that is happening ,so he also is a part of choosing our players not all Mikes fault !
Thanks!
It's all Art. -
Rooney's accountability really begins with not accepting that Ben's best years, and the team as it was constructed, within the realities of how the NFL boom-bust cycle works, was done by the end of 2018.
I been saying this. Tomlin needs a real qb.
Sat night, they made more splash plays then we did, we own it, we'll go back to the lab, obviously that was a freshman team out there, not the kind of effort THEY should be giving at this juncture in the season, obviously...
The Tomlin bubble is about to burst. Stay tuned.
DK great reporting ! I am sick of it being a Steeler fan for years and nothing being done it starts with MT he has become complacent no accountability like you said I am ready to jump ship and cheer for another team they are horrible in plain English!
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Wow! 10-3 to 0-5.... That's apocalyptic! It really is hard to imagine how that happens...
Well, at least we are not going to Buffalo or KC - but, of course, be careful what you wish for. Honestly, the focus should already be on to Justin Fields or no next year. Sad, yes, I know.
Throw the ball
Don't worry Tomlin will just get slacked because this is the first year with his offensive coordinator they'll say
There is no sense of urgency. It’s rinse and repeat. A lot of Steelers fans are completely checked out, the season is still going but you wouldn’t know it sometimes. Morale is extremely low 😂
Steelers are becoming the Pirates . They start off great and have everyone slobbering over them, and we all know how it's gonna end
Winning in playoffs ! Is a must whoever Coaches the Steelers but We sound like a 3-14 or 5-11 team the last 4 yrs ! Post Ben and No franchise QB still ..Just a new face at head Coach makes us feel good
We'll need to run a fake punt this saturday
on our own 15 yardline and it fails miserably
Getting a lot of rushing yards in a modern offense is different than getting a lot of rushing yards by a million 2nd and long 2 yard pitch outs.
The steelers play stale football. Their game plans and coaching are straight out of the 50s.
They pull a 3 and out the first drive I'm gonna be pissed.
Be prepared to be pissed.
I guess everyone thinks we'll lose on Saturday
Get out of here
@@jameslee8519 he's not wrong. He wasted years of tj and cam with Matt Canada on the staff. He won't start Warren over najiee. He benched bishop for sutton when bishop has been getting int all year.
If we don't do well Saturday. Clean house. Omar too.
Tomlin has never finished a season with a top 5 defense
What? They had top defenses in 2010’s
Art Rooney ll hasn't given Steelers fans any confidence that things will change.
Is anyone tired of watching Mike Tomlin teams have no answers and no real plan? Love the guy but come on, the coaching is average at best. As SOON as the coach of the year talk started I knew we wouldn’t win another game. Nobody reads their own headlines like Mike T.
I've been a supporter of mike when alot haven't, but even I'm starting to get annoyed.
I’m sick up and fed of Mediocre Mike’s 🐂💩!!!! Have been since his 2nd SB!!!!!
He need a qb simple as that. If Tomlin had a top 10 qb we wouldn’t have this discussion.
@@yellowcuh7511he had Ben, wasted a franchise quarterback and legendary teams because he has no game plan.
@@mickeyk3873 Ben was washed and when he had a decent Ben he won a playoff game.
If you replace tomlin who do they replace him with????
ANYONE!!
Who was Tomlin when they replaced Cowher with Tomlin? Answer: an unknown 1 year defensive coordinator that wowed the Rooney’s with his penchant for spewing BS and empty sound bites.
If anybody in these comments says anything disrespectful about Mr Rooney, I’m going off on them .
Ha! We can’t even run the ball well… we really aren’t doing the things we’re supposed to be good at.
The Standard defined:
Fast starts, slow finishes and slow starts and fast finishes without enough time left to matter is and has been the standard.
Tomlin=Bomlin. Dude is the poster child for complacency.
'Situational' football starts at helm not trenches
You keep saying something needs to change, but this past off-season there was a huge amount of change that occurred. I’m curious what Mr Rooney thinks else needs to change
Rooney is lucky that he’s in the playoffs
It doesn't matter what the fans want. As long as the franchise makes money, Rooney has no incentive to make a change. He knows the team is mediocre, and mediocrity doesn't win championships, but it does generate enough revenues to cover all financial liabilities and earn a decent profit. In fact, the TV revenue share practically guarantees a profit. The bottom line is what Rooney cares about. So why strive for a championship? For Rooney, close enough is good enough.
I still wish Kenny stayed one more year, this offense was built for him tbh,
All the your saying is A GŔEAT QB make great decisions for holes in the offense..
We have our own media company here at DK Pittsburgh Sports. Three full-time people covering the Steelers. Only coverage I care about, David. -
Rooney's urgency isn't so urgent when he fills important roster spots with players he is able to get at a bargain.
I’m new to Steeler nation but at least Rooney doesn’t embarrass the franchise like Mr Jones with Dallas 🤷🏽♂️🤣
He’s the billionaire. And that means it doesn’t matter what you, think.
Let’s utilize Fields on early downs…we need a new wrinkle for this game or we’re toast
They wouldn't have lost 4 if there weren't more games added to the season, and if there were less games their record would be better.😮
Not a great answer to Mike's question. It's a fair question whether Tomlin has over-valued the defense at the expense of the offense?
It wasn't the one you'd have given. Doesn't reflect on the answer at all. He's seeking an opinion. I offered it. No finger to the wind here. -
But I think the Bengals are a prime example on why defense is super important
@@DKPS_Steelers I wish Tomlin would put his finger in the air a bit more. If the wind isn’t as you game planned, you have to make changes.
Arthur Smith is just a little bit better than Canada.
JB, Atlanta
Tomlin suck and Art Rooney suck we miss old man Dan God rest his soul
It's ALREADY been years and years and years and YEARS that tomlin has NOT produced anything good for this team!! He is a fraud!! Rooney needs to open his eyes because it's already been WAY TOO LONG and these players (except najee and wilson) deserve to make it to superbowl!! Tomlin is, and has been, holding them back and it's just not right!!
We need a QB , We need a top QB , We need to take the risk to go get one... We also need a top WR and be willing to pay.... We also need a new defensive coordinator..
Going to be an interesting game. Enough of the talk, actions speak louder.
The problem is everybodies put it on Tomlin he's a great HC it's his hiring of position coaches that needs to be checked we need experienced, proven coaches not giving guys a shot and I feel that's what Mike Tomlin does trying to pay it forward , just a he got a shot
