A valuable but costly learning experience. The roof is not properly sloped for the water to drain when it rains.
You guys have many problems but break them down and find the root causes.
1) Mold in ceiling board.
- Roof must be leaking somewhere and the boards soaking up water and mound growing.
- Next time ensure boards are dry and roof not leaking before installing ceiling board.
- You guys should not have gone for a flat roof. It is difficult to male a flat roof waterproof. (Trick: You can do a pitched roof and use parapets to bid it. However, you must install drains to collect and dispose of water.)
2) Paint on walls.
- You are using adobe bricks, which will absorb water if not properly dry.
- There is color changes in the wall because you guys did not do I the base coat well enough. You must paint the walls with whitewash (cheap white paint) with many layers until the walls are solidly white. After that, you can paint the colors you want.
- To avoid painting the adobe blocks with so many layers of whitewash, you should have plastered it with cement. Then you can apply whitewash as base coat before applying your preferred colors.
3) Mold on walls.
- Wall is absorbing water, either from leaky roof or adobe bricks were not dry.
- Adobe bricks could be absorbing water from the ground upwards, as in capillary action. The builder should have installed a DPC (damp proof course) about 150 mm from the ground.
- Also, the adobe blocks should not be built from the foundation upwards. better to add a concrete base and the use adobe upwards as walls after installing the DPC.
It will take a lot of careful work to fix these. Find someone to breakdown all the issues, identify solutions, before starting the repairs.
Plaster primer paint is the one they should use
The mold is the most important thing you guys have to deal with first it could get everybody sick. You need to inspect the entire roof for leaks or the plywood ceiling. Good luck lot of work ahead..
I would suggest for the bathroom to tile from floor to ceiling because its a small space and that would reduce any mold built up.
Special Mould Resistant Paint
I don’t know if they have it out there in Rwanda, but you need “Kills mold, and mildew interior exterior primer. Also “Kills masonry and stucco paint” for your concrete columns out front. A primer and a sealer for your concrete floor and baseboards.
Also please check if the roofing is not leaking family.
This was too fast building concrete needs 24hrs to harden. But 1 month for his end hardness this means you have to wait minimum 1 month with the paint or tiles. Instead you trap water inside it leads to mold
Danni, no worry. You do not bring us negativity. Not at all. It is an issue with the the house building. You yourself, you are such a tremendously positive person. For sure, Bob also. You are Pearls on Earth. One can see easily how much your 40 children love you 😂❤😂❤. With or without lolly pops. ❤❤❤❤❤
I hope you find another builder to fix the house
Aww..the kids in the school are the cutest. Nice manners too. I really like the designs on the school walls..even the yellow (amazingly!)
Dan and Bob I like what you are doing to transform the community. One day I will visit you and also support you . Much love from Kenya 🇰🇪
You are welcome 🥰
Please check any leaks in the roof. I'm sorry guys. It's sad that people can't finish what they started.
😓💕
Danni can't you take this guy to court or the police????😢
It is nearly an African thing to have some so-called specialists not to know what professionalism is. They do half baked work. Gone through that. Keep your chins up and hold on. You will figure it out intime. In UK, I have been exposed to DIY.. you can try and see whether you guys can try and do some of it just the way you want it.. many more blessings
Thank you! 🙏❤️
Im no professional..but to have that much mould so quick seems odd. I have never seen it come up so quick??! Seems like more than just a leaking roof??
(I too, dont like yellow..)
Oh no!! Mold is not good, he needs to make that right!! It's so unsafe and unacceptable! I feel so bad for you guys and Bob's Mom. I know how excited you all were about the new house. I'm praying that he gets back in touch with you guys and corrects all of his mistakes and has good integrity, because that's unacceptable and not professional at all!! Again I'm so sorry for what you are going through.
Done a few projects in my life, this is the kind of stuff one runs into when you have sub par contractors. The mold has to be checked from getting worse. If you can find another contractor that you can trust would help, and do what work you can by yourselves. There's always challenges doing projects like this.
But you must have an assurance against faults in the construction. This is a fault of the Builder. Definitely. He must stand for it. Definitely!
@@Kathy-3 A lot of things can go wrong with these projects, you have to be on top of this stuff.
Vinegar will kill the mold so if you can get it and spray it before cleaning then after it dry then you can paint..
Oh no! 😢So sorry guys! You definitely need someone to determine if it’s excessive moisture or actual leakage from the roof that’s causing the damage!😢
Mold is formed from moisture. This means that water sips from the roof into the ceiling. You need to have the roof checked. If it is a concrete roof it needs to be sealed properly. If it a zinc roof then either where the nails were applied or the zinc sheets have an issue. All the best on your project, hope you get the matter resolved.
those children RAN to u all every time , that shows how good u all treat them and the love , may Jehovah God Bless u all Danni and Bob always
Sorry guys !! I had to change construction workers 3 times. Best of luck !!
We wish you really really luck for this construction. And you can do nothing against them, like redo the work without any cost for you?
Mould is caused by dampness and no light. Should have given the floors a few days to dry
The nursery classroom is very nice. The artwork looks very good nice and neat In there good job you guys!!❤💪
I think you need to have air vents up high on the outside walls to help circulate the air, plus I think you can place metal exterior fan on the roof to draw out the heat which could also help stop the damp in the ceiling that causes the mould to grow.
Great idea 🥰
Danni an Bon , ojalas a los videos los pasen en español bendiciones.
I also googled that to clean the seeable mould, vinegar and water is better than bleach. 89% vinegar and 20% water. It apparently causes the mould to overeat itself and bleach turns the mould clear but does not remove the mould. The sooner untouched take action the better as the mould will be harder to remove the longer it stays untreated. If you had the finance I would also suggest solar panels on the roof to help with electricity and never have a blackout. Anyway I hope you get this mess sorted out ASAP. Good luck
80% vinegar 20% water
That's if you have a little mold, not this. You cannot clean this.

You have to ventilate your house by opening regularly all windows to let air circulate freely.
Thanks for the work done, it could be with poor roofing issue
They used latex or acrylic paint when a brick, oil based, paint is what is needed on the poles
Treat the mould from the foundation then you can repaint
That is really sad 😢 do something now otherwise the kids will be sick all the time!! The roofing must be not done properly 😢😢😢
Good in control. Soooome seriiooouus remediation is needed. Better now than later.
Just thinking about you. I am so sorry about what happened! I know it will work out for you! Much love!
All the windows should be coloured in nano white as well as the front pillars also in nano white that brings more beautification to your home. The one who did works he chested you by using cheap material s. 😊
I'm so sorry guys, you put in so much effort but it is a good idea to take time like you say and even on experienced builds, things go wrong, it's life. I grew up in Africa and we had a very similar experience. Let me share with you, maybe it will help: the builder probably has already spent the money or had some unforseen even happen in his own life and that's why he is responding now or shall we say not responding in the way he is. The mold looks like it comes from a leaking roof like we had. The air vents you have above the windows could be added to some in the ceiling or there is a damp proofing paint (it's 2 steps, one pink then membrane then one grey) it works very well. Also if you just clean off the ceiling boards and repaint them then the damp will return as it's already in the boards so you either need to do the two step pain of then after sanding and scrapping any ones that have absorbed too much or you have to replace them. It sucks I know and it's expensive, we are going through the exact same, I wish I could offer you some words of comfort but take your time is a good idea but aldo the sooner you grt the ceiling boards out and check the roof, the better because damp spreads and sometimes fast and you don't want it to get into the walls because that's a nightmare to fix. Also I think the paint on the pillars is peeling because he painted on a damp surface or moisture got in after and he didn't sand properly. Maybe also he switched to yellow because of lack of supply or he got it at a cheaper supply deal...this is just my thoughts, I could be entirely wrong but I wish you both the best of luck, building is a stressful thing but once it's finished it'll be such a proud moment. Best of luck you two wonderful humans
shocking workmanship 😐 and we were all praising them on the progress that they were making. 😲 💕💜💕Peace, love and blessings💕💜💕
It happened to my boyfriend, he paid a man in Nigeria for some building material and ran off with the money💔😡
Building is usually a challenge and not unsual to change contractors...
It is going to come full circle,
just trust God❤🙏🏿
Hey guys, notice that you'll haven't posted no new video for awhile now. Hope all is well!
Writing from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean.
Love what you guys are doing for the children in your village. Blessings!
I would definitely be worried about the mold more than anything. That is extremely dangerous and breathing it can kill people. Please be careful and protect yourselves. And I would definitely put the house into the order that you like. You need to fix the paint colors and the smoothness of the walls. That is extremely unprofessional of your contractor to do that. We pray that everything works out for you. God bless you and the work that you do by taking care of these precious children. 🙏🙏🏽🙏🏿
The wood has not been dried enough before they put it up so you may have to remove it and put some that have been. 😢
MISSING YOU GUYS. PRAYING FOR YOU GUYS. HOPE ALL IS WELL.
This is so bad maybe the roof is leaking
Oh guys 😢 my heart just sunk.
Not real surprised though 😠
We would be glad to donate to help you
congratulation new home
ARE YOU GUYS DOING OK? HAVEN'T SEEN A VIDEO FOR AWHILE . PRAYING ALL IS WELL.
PRAYING FOR YOU GUYS
Things like this happen in small town USA as well. It seems almost impossible to be as diligent as one needs to be when supervising people whom you think are more knowledgeable than yourself. I did not receive justice and for various reasons decided not to pursue any other action. Hang in there and hopefully you can find some competent help to continue with this project.
Sorry you guys don’t like yellow; I love it. But I do not think your paint job is acceptable in any color. Love to you and best wishes!
Thank you for your support Susan 🙏❤️
Happy Monday, Bob and Danni. Life is not too bad. Be strong ❤❤
Thanks ❤️
Hello Danny Bob belle famille félicitations pour votre vidéo harmony congratulations beautiful family for your ❤❤😂
Check if the mold is due to the rain… thats most likely the issue.. i am so sorry guys, I am sure things will work out for the best
I hope that you guys are fine. We miss you❤

So sorry for that news ❤
Awww man keep y'all head up ❤
Choose Quality Materials yourself! Need special paints outside
the excuse for a builder, did not prime the poles or some of the walls before he painted. I'm guessing he did his budget wrong and ran out of primer. He also watered down the paint. You will also need to get some paint made just to cover and kill mold. Do you no if he put a moisture barrier in the walls and on the roof? Moisture barriers prevent mold.
Also see if you can locate a builder who works with non profits
Danny and Bob, hey, we miss you guys, why are you hiding? Hope you are both okay with the kids. Love you and mis you dearly.❤❤❤
Sorry for that
Danni and Bob,don’t dwell too much on the negative aspects of the project, things like do happened in life,so let us be thankful at every moment of our lives,l pray that God bless you beyond your imaginations ❤❤❤❤
The problem is on roofing i have seen many people who have used that type of loofing complaining of water leaking on their walls, you better change the roofing style the walls will dry up. Those molds are coming because the walls are wet from roof water.
Other than the bathroom it looks like it's mostly just cosmetic stuff. I'm sure everything will work out 🤗🙏🏽👍🏽
Thanks 🙏❤️
go to a hardware store talk to them and they would tell u what to do with the mold
What made the roof mold? I would find that man for him to come fix his mistakes.
Danni and Bob, so very sorry to learn of what happened.
Your concern right now should not be painting or anything else but that mold.
Mold is a harmful and deadly fungus which you should not even be breathing in.
No one should be in that building and the windows should be open during the day.
You were not only walking around in there you were touching, sitting on the floor and leaning on the walls.
Your body, clothes etc., are now all contaminated and going back home to those children. Your clothes must be separated for thorough cleaning.
Thank you for your advise, we will be dealing with it immediately! The mold was on the ceilings not on the walls so our clothes were not contaminated thank god 🥰
Is your Dad aware of this??
I watched them use that wet mud and had major concerns and also as it rained regulary then they immediately sealed and painted over it so now the fungus is growing and will continue to grow.
Be careful with your exposure to the little ones.
You cannot attempt to clean it with bleach etc.
I would like to send you some information on mold.
Will do so on FB Messenger.
th-cam.com/video/8-Ohvveh9iE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SOcTcsMGRtFWx8aI
Mold spores are in the air, you are breathing it in and that is only what you see.
I shudder to think what's under that floor. Bob jumped up and dragged his fingers across the ceiling.
Most people who are contaminated, suffering symptoms are unaware of what's causing it and usually ot even visible or barely.
Remember, you have been unwell a few times during this process also Bob.
I thought some of it is dehydration as water is clearly a problem and consumption minimal to non existent as caffeine use is quite dehydrating.
You guys have to be very concerned and some form of action taken immediately..
Sorry, I know this is not what you want to here but this is quite a dangerous situation.
Like everyone else is saying.....use prime paint then paint over. Perhaps get some bleach first?
Is he not held accountable?
Sorry you guys are going thru this. Not a fan of yellow but yes, totally agree with you on the colour scheme with rest of house!❤
if he was a good workman he should have told u all there was MOLD , but all he was thinking about is getting the MONEY , and u all was praising him up , no he is not a good workman , he should come and do something about it , if not no one is going to HIRE him , not good not good . if he don't come back and fix it , PUT HIM IN COURT
Need quality paints etc
Choose special resistant paint and special outside paint
No point in painting over mould. You need to deal with the root cause before repainting.
Sò sorry guys.
I’m so sorry what happened? I know things will work out but I just hope you didn’t pay the contractor fully.
As long as you’re breathing there is hope for salvation let’s Repent tomorrow is never promised.🙏🏾
Indeed they did not let dry inbetween the steps of building. This takes time. Pity that you have paid them already. They must redo the work and you DO NOT have to pay anything. The problem is moist, mould, wetness inbetween the stones. So they must remove all color, remove the ceiling completely, let it all dry. That will take a long of time. BE demanding, good, young people. As you said, you can't be nice to them!!! They must repair on their cost. Be strong 💪💪
lol thats not how africa works those guys are gone
sorry guys but you will find a way pls that's bad butits a beautiful house though
Danni and Bob where are u? I keep on checking ur page but no new videos 😢
One more thing: maybe this community will be able to give you some good ideas about managing moisture. It will be necessary or you will keep having the same problem.
Nice home
Most beautiful house danni and bob it is for kids
Rwanda
Never pay final amount until finished !!
The builders just do a half decent job they don’t care they just want your money 😢hope you guys are okay
Thank you for the concern ❤️
The paint is not good
So sad shame
🙌🏾🙏🏾❤
Mold is caused by moisture. My guess is that the mud bricks that was used to build the house was not allowed to properly dry before the roof and the ceiling was installed. I was surprised to see how quickly the mud bricks were made and used to build the house without giving it time to dry properly. Avoid sitting in the house for a long time like you did when you were shooting this video, you can become sick from inhaling mold spores.
You should t walk around all that mold. Can go on your clothing and carry back home
u all work very HARD for your money ,he have to fix it , if not COURT , do not let him get away with it
Hey guys it's been 2 weeks without a vlog. I got you're all ok. Is it the house issue keeping you so busy?
I missed the first few minutes. What happened?
A lot 😅
Cannot find your new video. Help help. Imt a long time subscriber. What happened ? Help.
How much does Teacher earn per Month?
Do builders over there need a license to work and if so, maybe you should report this builder to the better business bureau if one exists.
They don’t.. 😓
Why is it you are no longer posting any videos, it has been long since you last posted
Piece -poor job....could have got a lot shoddy than that if u guys were outta town....besides what kinda bricklayer u got....too bad tho...
I’m soo disappointed 😔. What a bad workmanship
Can you take your contract to a lawyer a d see if they can help? That man has to do what is on his contract. He was paid to do that job
Are they Orphans?
Such a shame. You put your trust in people and they let you down. It's the same everywhere. I'd suggest dehumidifier but this is a bigger problem and I don't think you have electricity. I feel bad for mama Bob.
Yes it’s a shame but we will figure it out 🥰
Do these Children live with you?
It might be the roof leaking
