However, I do love your videos and have honestly learned from them. You have a great no nonsence mentally which is way more helpful than all the gimmick oriented or paid product reviewers. Thank You!
Great review! A friend gave me an original Tom Brown tracker from her husband’s knife collection. It was in unused condition and she encouraged me to use it and enjoy it. The knife processes kindling better than any hatchet. I can baton it, chop w/ the rounded part of the blade, or pound it into a log with the blade facing away from me and create shavings by drawing the wood against the blade. This is how I primarily use it. The saw is designed to cut a groove in wood. It works best when you hold the blade at a left or right angle (use one side or the other of the teeth). Once you have a groove, you can do some fine carving, holding the knife like a draw knife and using the flat part of the knife. This is for building traps or general camp construction. The hook is for use in skinning, which I have yet to try. The knife is way too large and heavy for belt carry. It is ideal in a pack and replaced my hatchet. And yeah - it is a fantastic thrower!
I agree the tracker knives are awesome. They work well in many giving situation‘s. It’s a close to a one tool option very much like the Kukri. And if you get one of the smaller ones the companions. Did you make a good EDC. And as far as the larger ones and the smaller ones, they do work well on a Dangler.
I bought a tom brown in 07 while deployed. When I got home I went hunting as usual and after using the Tom Brown I’ll never use anything else to process an entire deer. Without even hanging a whitetail you can easily skin the entire thing in 20 mins or less. Breaking bone, no problem it’s heavy enough. The skinning is clean to, good enough to tan the hide.
Dang, it's like the ultimate knife. Versatile, and all uses are basically vital in the woods and can be utilized no? Like...why isn't this one the "bushcraft" knife. Not one bushcraft knife I've crossed served more uses than a tracker knife. Grand stuff man!!!
I have a made in China one. Got it to save a little cash. During this hurricane yard clean up. I process some wood to start a fire. It did great. Awesome review.
I like the mid size one best. The big one is just too dang big. The mini is super handy and the mid is perfect. You can definitely wreck with the big one but it’s soooo heavy to carry
@@tarasoffgear4831 I totally get what you’re saying with the point 👍There’s a lot of different ways one could fight with a tracker if they had to. The hook on this one grabs and cuts real nice. It excels more in slicing that piercing it’s piercing ability may shock you. It cuts into targets well. I see this in my throwing often. There’s alot edge to cut in. If one stabbed into soft tissue and power assisted their way out the damage is crazy.

I don’t think this particular tracker is hard to sharpen. I use of work sharp pull through sharpener to sharpen the bottom of the blade and the curve and I use a wetstone to sharpen the top part where you slice

I think I may just be poor at sharpening wide and low sabre grinds ? I like the K Bar Combat Kukri more for everything I bought the tracker for albeit it can’t split or take as much damage of course
I just bought my first tracker knife. It’s not the Tom Brown tracker but a D2 on like yours. It comes with an awesome sheath that can be scout carried. I only bought it tonight so now I have to wait for the postie.
I saw Your other video of the Warivo Tracker, … I ended up purchasing one. I didn’t expect much, considering the price. It arrived the other day and my first thought was : it’s small, the sheath is not great, the grind was off a bit, the tip appears to be bent ever so slightly,… I believe it’s the uneven blade grind that makes it look that way. It can cut paper but it’s not the sharpest knife by a long shot. It doesn’t have the forward weight for hard chopping because it’s too short and too thin and too lightweight compared to the TOPS Tom Brown Tracker or the Bark River Tracker, or even the WSK Beck Tracker Knife. I got exactly what I expected. That being said: This is going to sound crazy But,… I kinda like it. It’s easy to carry. I carry scout up front, slightly to the left. ( Cross Draw ) I’m right handed. Anyhow, it’s usable. It seems durable. It’s a Great, “First Tracker Knife”, for someone just getting into trackers. It’s a Fun, Throwable, beater Knife! Which is a good thing. I like an affordable budget knife that I can really use hard and Not worry about breaking it. I’m realizing the sheath isn’t all that bad & the smaller size makes it a dream to carry. It’s just big enough & has just enough weight to accomplish most bushcraft tasks. It’s Not my favorite Tracker Knife but it’s a Good little Tracker knife. I’m probably going to purchase another one before they disappear. This Video that you just did, using it, shows how capable this little beast really is. 👍🏻 Thanx for introducing all of us to this Bad Azz “Affordable”, Tracker Knife. ( I agree it is similar to a WSK Beck tracker ). Just a bit smaller.

I enjoy watching your reviews. I got me a super tracker from Tops; they call it the Skull Crusher or some such. Well, I've had that knife for several months now and I am still trying to figure out how to use it. As far as I am concerned. there is no reason for a knife to shape like that. Since the Tracker is your favorite knife, perhaps I can impose upon you to share with me, and your other faithful viewers, your wisdom on the use of this wicked blade.
The thickness of the blade is the main strength ( pun intended ) of the design, keeping it from breaking during abusive prying, throwing, chopping etc. The weight helps for chopping. The second ( recessed) edge isn't engaged during chopping so it stays sharp for precision tasks like feather stick making or shaving wood for tinder. The saw teeth should be discontinued but since they are there, they can be used for notching or perhaps shavings for tinder. The design can be useful for fighting, primarily for chopping moves you'd do with a Kukri. It is far from an ideal fighting knife though. But...For defensive street carry, look at the Colonel Blades Lo-viz ($150 ) For budget bushcraft, the Mora. For large fighting knives, the machetes or Kukris on down to Bowie Knives and Cold Steel Tantos or Chaos models.
I love my boker tracker. I also have some random ebay one that seems to be doing its job surprisingly but i do love the design. Hey man, came across your vid. If you like the tracker design you should totally pickup a Tops TB Tracker, it's worth it. I have owned the T1 and T3 trackers for a little over 4 years, and I'd recommend going with the T3, it chops better and doesn't pull the wrist as much.
Yo stud, whyy would someone prefer the Tommy when now there's the EJ Snyder SXB?.... Your opinion is valued. My opinion is the fact that the Tommy is a little more durable probably because it's more stout and can pry Also the original sheath is much more faster to deploy than the SXB but the Snider DOES have kydex out there and doesn't need a pinky lanyard because it seems to have a handguard..... Thanks Boss! The tracker is my favorite too
I kinda stumbled upon The Hunted by accident... I was actually looking for a similarly titled film that had a soundtrack by Kodo. Anyway, as a knife guy, I have a hard time understanding this design honestly, even after reading forum posts & watching videos on it. One source said the inner edge was intended for use like a drawknife, but seems unlikely... I dunno about y'all, but I don' like sawteeth on my improvised drawknife handles. I've got no particular need for a combat knife (thank goodness!), but if I did, I wouldn't pick such a stout blade. It's going to be fundamentally harder to use against heavy clothing. Some years ago there was a guy in the UK who did a video testing the Ka Bar USMC knife & Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife on kevlar vests, & the latter performed much better getting through. Now, compare the tip on the Tracker to a Ka Bar and the difference is still more pronounced.
Check out the Woodsman by Origin Knives, it's a new hybrid of a Khukri/Tracker. I've had the TOPS, Bark River, Beck WSK but the Woodsman's my favorite.
Ive got one similar but dosnt have the gutting hook in the blade. The spoon shape is handy to push skins off the sinewy fascha. Ive also used a spoon in the past. But even faster is out a nick in the collar of the anumal and just pump it up like a baloon; eventually the anus always ripps out and off you go. Or ring the wrists and ankles and the center chest line and there nothing left to do.
the tracker are looking but for the price id have to pass plus that im not a fan of there handles they seem to be to short for me and from the looks of it it would slip out of your hand a lot plus the weird shaped blade looks like a pain to sharpen i guess i was to get one of these knives it would be for nostalgia ill stick to muh tramontina jungle knife it has served me well for 10 years but great video i liked the knife action with it
I have heard something about it 👍 I love the knife whoever did design it. I could see why one would want to steal it. He prob just had more influence and was able to pull it off
Others have stated this, however I'd like to add my two cents as well. The "Tom Brown" Tracker is most definitely not the original Tracker. He did not design it. He does not deserve to have his name tied to it honestly. The original Tracker knife was designed by Rob Russon. After a many year communication event with Tom Brown. Where Tom was asked what would be the best survival knife, and Tom Brown gave a brief idea of his thoughts on it. Soon after Rob Russon designed and made the very first "Tracker" knife. After a bit of miscommunication about pricing and purchasing etc. The production of the Tracker knife was canceled. However it would appear Tom Brown then went on to steal the design by Russon and had another maker make a few Tracker knives called "Spirit Blade". Only a handful of those knives are in existence. Subsequently this lead to Tom Brown to contact the true pioneer of the Tracker knife design... Beck. Beck honestly pioneered what we know and love today. His thoughts and geometry into the design shaped the world of the Tracker knife. However as with most things that had to come to an end. Beck was a small time maker. And once the Hunted movie released, and the Tracker knife became synonymous with action flick knives, Beck was overwhelmed. And no longer heard anything from Tom Brown... Nor Tom Brown Jr. Tom Brown Jr. Went on to sell the design to Tops Knives to capitalize on the fame from the movie. Meanwhile altering the original design to the atrocity sold today. This is not a slam on Tops knives, however the Trackers offered from them are Tom Brown Jr designed. They have very little if any true form and function. And are honestly at this point better to be considered as sharpened Pry Bars than actual Tracker knives. If you'd have to choose one from their lineup however, pick the T3 version. When it comes to Tracker knives you get what you pay for. I'd highly recommend the Boker Tracker as a good entry point for a Tracker knife. However the pinnacle will always be a Beck. Glad to see another enthusiast of the Tracker knife. However I'd highly recommend branching off into the higher end blades eventually. There's only so much quality you'll get from a $40 Amazon blade before it breaks.
I appreciate the info my friend! I have actually just ordered the Boker in the last week. I mainly get the lower end trackers for abuse as I am largely a knife thrower. I am learning more and more about the discrepancy in who desined it. Props to who did for sure. It’s definitely my favorite. What I like about it expensive things as you can purchase multiple lol but I’m definitely looking forward to my Boker
@@411Outdoors No problem! A word of caution for the Boker. It has a Skeletonizied tang. And will break with hard use. I've see a couple get broken from throwing them.
@@d.b.hemlock I appreciate the heads up and yes I did see one video in particular where a guy snapped his. That’s the one thing that kept me from buying it for so long was it was so skeletonized that I just won’t use this one for Throwing
Yes I too have a trapper knife thanks tops. It is a strange looking knife. I would never come up with the design. It is incredibly useful but I do prefer a knife designed for a specific task rather Jack of all trades. Re-sharpening is a little more challenging until you figure it out.
Look up Utah Kife works. And listen to where the knife was actually designed and who designed it. Wasnt Tom Brown Jr. I also had no idea untile i did some research on that blade. I think the truth deserves some spot light. Its also the reason i wouldn't buy one from tops. Way to overly priced.
I've already got the mini Boker tracker, and love it so much, I've just ordered the full size version,, I think they're the best bang for the buck tracker style knives on the market,, all the best my friend from across the pond,, 😊
Wrong the design did not come from TomBrown Jr or Tom Brown. He flat out stole the design. Straight up lied and said he came up with the design. He did Not.
Tom Brown did not design the Tracker knife, he stole the design from Robb Russon after he promised they would build them together. Then he had Dave Beck make a bunch of them and has since claimed he designed it.
Weapon law in germany make me sick.Just allowed carry fixed under 12cm...have a small tracker from IPAC in D2 steel for this reason and its perfect in most cases
Very sad that they just ran outa ideas with the saw. Its next to useless si dont be ashamed to tell them so. Lately ive been cutting down $9 kmart cleavers. And amaisingly thyr hard as rock! I had ti grund the saw blade by hand using dremmel cut off discs theres a cinvenient hole cut in it i ground into a can opener; its like a japanese chefs knife with a curbed cutting surface so that you never hel that nasty hollow in the heel frim sharpening. Never be afraid to grind that tip it stops your heel going hollow. Its thicker at the point just by how its originaly made as a cleaver; so the back i ground into a whacker fir trees
It would be nice to have a better saw but this does allow me to make a notch. I would probably just baton in most cases. Would be cool to have a sharp saw. Would prob just have to pay a lot more
Tom Brown Jr did not design this knife. Rob Russon did and it pisses my tits off that Tom Brown ripped him off as if he didnt already have enough fame and money.
Great work on your channel!! Tom Brown DID NOT design the Tracker knife--he just profited from that lie. If you want to know the real story, do some research and you will learn who really designed the knife that Tom Brown stole from him...
A little sharpener file is the best way to go. There’s some pretty cool videos out there on what that looks like. Heck I might need to make one myself haha
Tom Brown is a thief who has stolen 3 unique knife designs from 3 different makers & the word is out. This is a Rob Russon design & while it costs more, you can find it at Utah Knives! Rob Russon thanks for this knife!
It's gotta be a bald guy thing. Tantos and trackers. That quarter round is the fastest, easiest way to make a massive pile of feather sticks. I swear, give a novice yuppie 5 minutes of training on feather sticking woth a tracker, and then pit them in a contest against a pro with a mora, in a feather sticking battle royal. It'll be a tight match.
Tom Brown Jr did not design the tracker knife . It's bullshit you talk about this knife and not even know it's history . I enjoy all your videos but this one is bunk ! You need to educate yoor audience and educate them on your mistake
I’m over the Tom Brown tracker debate, and I’ve already made several videos since this one. I don’t need to educate my audience anymore than I already have. This must be your first video. You guys need you find a new problem to worry about. This one aint big enough.
It wasn’t hours. It’s an old video and others have been on this subject since. And honestly, I really don’t care who invented the tracker whether it was Tom brown, Tom Dick & Harry, Dave Beck or the other guy mentioned in this thread. I like the blade. But it’s not even my favorite anymore.
Rob Russon is the inventor and designer of the tracker not tom brown credit needs to br given were its due and that is not tom brown it goes to Rob Russon!!!!period
Yeah man it’s all good. It is what it is. People learn different things at different times. The bottom line is I love the blade. I noticed the blade before I ever cared about the history. I’m not one for controversy. I just want the blade in my hand.

It's nice knife bro!
💯👊
@@411Outdoors welcome bro
Thanks dude, great vid.
Heck yes! 🙂👍
I like the Gephard, Esse, Kershaw, Gerber, I like hand forged Bowie's , Seax's , bearded axes, man. I could go on like Forest Gump Sabre,Cuttlas,
I think you need to update the Tom Brown knife history...
Yeah, I’ve been there and done that since this video was shot due to the comments. Checked it out afterward. In the end, I just love the blade
Dave Wenger makes trackers and Boker carries his model in 3 sizes.
Very well said my friend👍 overtime the tracker has become for me a knife hatchet combined
Check out the Woodsman by Origin Knives, it's a new hybrid of a Khukri/Tracker. I've had the TOPS, Bark River, Beck WSK but the Woodsman's my favorite.
This looks like one powerhouse of a knife!
@@411Outdoors Trackers are my favorite style of bushblade, it's just my favorite version.
I got mine from C.H Kiddells & paid $39. It's better than my brothers $260 Tom Brown.Thank you for the video.🤠
Yes sir anytime!👍
The knife in the film is a Dave Beck Tracker/WSK. Most others aren't differently heat treated. Dave's are the best, by far.
I know what I want for Christmas 😳👊💯 Tracker it is.... I love my Mora tho...😉
You will love it. If you haven’t seen the Hunted it will make you want one more haha
👍🏼 Very coo!
Cool video I like the idea of not Breaking the bank account for a decent cool blade. However I do like tops knives
Tops is great! I finally got their Tom Brown Tracker (the big size)
fyi it's also Tanto like the lone ranger sidekick, cuz japanese doesn't have the sharp A that american english has. but it's not the end of the world
If your building in the woods the tracker is good
i got this cheap tracker knife online for about $60 and it outpreforms some of my $200 knives in the woods. tracker knives are simply better
💯👍👍
Ive got one similar but dosnt have the gutting hook in the blade. The spoon shape is handy to push skins off the sinewy fascha. Ive also used a spoon in the past. But even faster is out a nick in the collar of the anumal and just pump it up like a baloon; eventually the anus always ripps out and off you go. Or ring the wrists and ankles and the center chest line and there nothing left to do.
Well said bro!
the tracker are looking but for the price id have to pass plus that im not a fan of there handles they seem to be to short for me and from the looks of it it would slip out of your hand a lot plus the weird shaped blade looks like a pain to sharpen i guess i was to get one of these knives it would be for nostalgia ill stick to muh tramontina jungle knife it has served me well for 10 years but great video i liked the knife action with it
You rock
🙂👊
Muskrat Jim carries a tracker. He is Canadian.
Tom brown stole the design from someone who admired him. There are plenty of videos and info on the topic. Just a heads up
I have heard 👍 thank you
Tom brown did not design the tracker. He stole the design from a college professor turn knife maker. Research it.
I have heard something about it 👍 I love the knife whoever did design it. I could see why one would want to steal it. He prob just had more influence and was able to pull it off
he pulled a thomas edison 😂
Definitely 🙂👍 I ended up falling in love with the tracker for throwing and big old tasks but my mora has become my true outdoors love haha
@@411Outdoors that makes so much sense.
The kukri is the best knife.
I like kukris most definitely. Not my favorite but they’re cool
I had somebody sent me one, but I would never pay that much either
The weyland tracker is amazing i would never give the money to tops and tom brown because he did not design the knife.
I’ll look at that tracker thank you
Rob Russon designed the tracker, NOT tom brown junior, he stole the design,,,
Shame on him,,,
That I have learned 👍
I've already got the mini Boker tracker, and love it so much, I've just ordered the full size version,, I think they're the best bang for the buck tracker style knives on the market,, all the best my friend from across the pond,, 😊
Cool,411
Wrong the design did not come from TomBrown Jr or Tom Brown. He flat out stole the design. Straight up lied and said he came up with the design. He did Not.
That’s what I’m hearing. All things aside I love these blades
Tom Brown did not design the Tracker knife, he stole the design from Robb Russon after he promised they would build them together. Then he had Dave Beck make a bunch of them and has since claimed he designed it.
I’ve gained more familiarity with the situation over time 👍
Weapon law in germany make me sick.Just allowed carry fixed under 12cm...have a small tracker from IPAC in D2 steel for this reason and its perfect in most cases
Would prob just have to pay a lot more
@@411Outdoors angke gringer cut off disk 1mm. And a two specific angled cuts. 5 mins max
Tom Brown Jr did not design this knife. Rob Russon did and it pisses my tits off that Tom Brown ripped him off as if he didnt already have enough fame and money.
I learned a lot more about the history since this video. Hard to believe all that went down.
Great work on your channel!!
Tom Brown DID NOT design the Tracker knife--he just profited from that lie. If you want to know the real story, do some research and you will learn who really designed the knife that Tom Brown stole from him...
Much appreciated! I have since read up on the origin of design and got the scoop👍
Id prefer a skinning knife and an axe
Yeah, I can definitely understand that especially after getting my hands on a Mora
@@411Outdoors do you know of the marbles? I like that geometry
@@xlargetophat I sure don’t my friend
OK, so here’s my question. Sharpening that little curved area! That is one of the most difficult things I found to do correctly.
I did a lot of research since this video and I know exactly what you’re talking about👍👍I love the tracker and the movie the hunted.
Russon designed the tracker, not Tom Brown.
I love Tantos trackers and clip points. Gotta be my three favs
Tom brown did not create that knife
I’m definitely familiar with the controversy. I’m assuming it was the guy who designed the WSK
Wow, so this is what hours of editing, shooting, scripting, etc.
And zero minutes spent on research.
Utah Knife Works for the best authentic tracker knife
Wish I could afford that one
Rob Russon is the inventor and designer of the tracker not tom brown credit needs to br given were its due and that is not tom brown it goes to Rob Russon!!!!period
Yeah man it’s all good. It is what it is. People learn different things at different times. The bottom line is I love the blade. I noticed the blade before I ever cared about the history. I’m not one for controversy. I just want the blade in my hand.
