Love my new T-8! only have the straight edge jig that came with the machine. Now I'm saving my pennies to get the Tormek HTK-806 Hand Tool Kit next. Struggled for years with my two Baldor grinders, getting good edges on my chisels, knives, planer blades. Not an issue any more!
I don't have one, and am not skilled at sharpening, but this is great information, best practice tips. That setup looks easy enough for a novice to perform. I had no idea there were so many jigs available, you can sharpen virtually anything with quick, reproducible results. If I ever saved up for something like this, I'd have to start a ledger for everything I sharpen, so I'd know what angles and jigs to use, haha. Thanks for the upload.
The Tormek system is fantastic for repeatability and speed. They are real simple to use. It's an investment but you can see the utility they provide. If you do get one, it comes with an instruction manual with several blank lined pages to keep those notes in!
If the clippers are look like a pair of small pliers, I'd follow our Scissor Sharpening instructions. For such small jaws, something like the DMT Flat File is most likely to fit between the jaws. th-cam.com/video/K2fyeqig5kw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jvXV_glchsTTH_lY
Is it possible to just sharpen in edge trailing method. I have experienced a catch several times with edge leading and am now quite uncomfortable with edge leading. I must have precision edges but am really wrestling with this. My work height is correct and hold firmly but still get a catch on occasion. Thank you.
Yes, you can sharpen edge trailing. Edge leading is a little more aggressive. Tormek recommends edge trailing with their Japanese grindstone, which is a little softer and could be damaged if the tool catches.
better show me how to make Mirror finish edge on tormek with 50 or below BES on any knife. 15 to 13 degree will do. Whole edge must be mirror. those "tricks of rounded bevel" with polish compound and belt are not the thing i look for. since its a trick but true sharpness and durability comes when you fully polish edge on true angle.
I excpect grinding on stone from 400 to 3000 grit minimum, (best to 6000) and then keeping same angle and polish on compound whole edge using angle jig. Also microscope photos would be very good evidence for proper edge.
