Finally a video that explains this pretty well. I just got this game for Christmas and I've already watched 3 videos but I was still confused about all the nuances. I'm still confused in a few areas but feel more comfortable now.
Hey, just to let you know admirals don't work if you go bust (the online version also does it this way), Jen should have got 2 gold from her admiral at 20:00 too ;)
I just tried Port Royal for the first time and it didn't go very well because I was not familiar with the rules. 2 questions: a) Can I use the character's special ability everytime I want or just on my turn? b) My opponents can also draw 1 card on my turn, what if there are 3 opponents and only 2 cards left?
Ah ok question a) is cleared up, I can use the character's ability for the rest of the game and not just when I draw the character card. But can I choose not to use that special ability or do I HAVE to use it everytime? What about question b)?
May I answer? When it's your turn to take a card (also if another player is the active player) and there are at least 5 cards in the harbour, take 2 coins.
Perhaps a silly question but it is worth asking before I order the game(s). Are there separate English and German versions if this I should be aware of? I see the German copies readily (obviously.) and wasn't sure if they were playable for those who don't fully "Deutsch sprechen" :) Thank you for these run throughs. They are a pleasure to watch and have introduced me to so many wonderful new games.
Awesome. And the game components? Is there anything on them that would cause difficulties if not they are solely in German? I watched your run thru (obviously) and it seems like I should be okay. I just wanted to make sure we don't run into too many issues. Thank you so very much for getting back to me. I can wait to get this.
You say that what is on the other side of the cards doesn't matter to you, but would you be allowed to take a peak? That could influence your decisions based on how likely different colours are to show up.
How old are your students? This game doesn't seem very overly complicated. If you're teaching young students, perhaps you can remove some of the more complicated citizens.
I believe there's an easier version called Port Royal Unterwegs. My students are not stupid and I never said that they were. They are, however, difficult, underprivileged and very tough to manage. Port Royal is wonderful and I love the game but it would never work in my classroom. I need games for large groups (+8 players) that are extremely simple, i.e. that you can explain in literally 10 seconds.
This is my group's favorite game. Quick and everyone is engaged on every turn. Instant classic.
Boardgame Barbarian I mostly disliked it
Fun, clever game, nice to have the whole game in just a deck of cards

This one's been on my list for a while and I'll finally get to pick it up this week in Essen. Really looking forward to it.
this is the best walkthrough 👍🏽. Good job
Errata for every second move made in this simple card game. That must be some kind of a record.

It was already noted... When watching a Rahdo video, please turn on the Klingon subtitles to see where Richard goofs up… Thanks :)
just bought this one on its Korean version. I think it will become fav
Jan 2022. Sure wish the big box edition would hurry up and get here!
fun card game, works well with 2, best with 3. I really enjoy it
This great game has never had official distribution in the US. It makes no sense.
clever little game, i only just realized the other day it's by Alex Pfister
Great game, great runthrough.
nice game you played there. You have not taken in consideration a Jenny "Lady" card a lower cost for admiral in 16:05 :)
"oooooooh, taxes!" - pmsl

b) the last player won't get nothin'
Hey Rahdo, do you have the board game called: Jorvik?
i've done a video for it :)
rahdo Ok, thanks!
Have you tried World of Yo-Ho yet? Seems up your alley between pirate theme and super cool app integration.
sorry, too much PVP for my tastes
Hi Richard,a question. Is the ability of the Admiral only on your turn or on everyones turn.
great runthrough.

thank you very much Alexander. Love your games.
Great video as always....

yup no probs at all :)
Great! Thank you so much for answering my questions and so quickly. Have a great day and keep up the awesome work!
Should Jen not have benefitted from the mademoiselle when buying that sailor? The cost of 5 should have gone to 3 then, right?
timestamp please so I can check it... but if it the cost was 5 she would pay 4 because the mademoiselle gives a discount of 1 coin
21:18 and regardless this was a great video :)
Lol you wouldn’t have drawn and hit the black at 8:20, you drew coins first so you don’t know what would’ve came up

i believe you are not allowed to peek :)
Correct, rahdo! And thanks for the - as always - great video!!!
Great clip. Tnx man
I'm surprised that you haven't done a playthrough before. It has been out for some time.
yup, it just never got the votes...
now I know how I play 😁
It's a great game but too complicated for my students, too many rules and too many details.
How old are your students? This game doesn't seem very overly complicated. If you're teaching young students, perhaps you can remove some of the more complicated citizens.
Students must be about 6...
It's a super easy game. They don't come more simple than this.
