The 70s were my era and I watched the Partridge family and I can relate to your statement about David’s talent. Thinking back, I could not get past his looks to notice his talent. Now that I’m older, there is NO question that he was a HUGE talent - glad I grew up and got to see and appreciate that

I went through foster care and group homes. So I looked for anyone that seemed to be a caring mother. But I think, in reality Shirley Jones would have been the best choice, as Shaun said. Because that is how she was and is.
Shirley has four beautiful sons, including David. David is the spitting image of his father. Shaun looks just like Shirley. Patrick and Ryan look like Jack. Rest in peace, Jack.

Granted I too was young during the'70s being grade school, internet not existing, etc ...Then I read David's book, I must say I was very empathetic and sympathetic with David even when I was young. My mom has tried to do something that Jack did when he took David to buy a $800 men's suit. My mom is trying to pull the same kind of thing only the amount is $4000. So far she's had to take off $1,000 off the so called debt. Paying for services I didn't ask to have done and promising to pay for the services then tell me I'm to pay back for I didn't have knowledge of her doing.
Besides remarkable talent, the Cassidy family is one heck of a good looking lot. Too bad Jack couldn't have had a better personality and would have been happy and proud of his family's accomplishments instead of resentful and jealous about it.

This film keeps the story within a narrow bandwidth that allows only certain points of view, which leaves the story as a whole feeling random and often disjointed. These limiting filmaking choices have not allowed the Cassidys' difficult emotions their full expression. The heavy-handed narration takes up at least a third of the screen time, and is full of unexplained assumptions about human nature and culture, while the peppy musical score in the background signals the viewer to feel uplifted emotions even when the content is sad or tragic. In contrast, the E! film consists almost exclusively of interviews with the individuals involved, allowing them to tell their own more fully human story, without an emotion-shaping soundtrack or ideologically-driven narration. I believe that I have learned a lot about the differences between conservative and liberal culture.
Jack Cassidy must've been a very insecure, petty little man. As I remember, he couldn't sing (except maybe for being a lounge lizard) and was nothing more than a B actor. How sad, he couldn't be happy for his son.
Jack had an amazing singing voice. Perfectly meant for the stage. A lot of people just don’t realize what they have been blessed with and always want more. Both Jack and David were amazing performers. Jack in stage musicals. David was a magnetic superstar who tried to do it all. Unfortunately, neither realized in their hearts their true calling. Both wanted to be serious actors in movies. They didn’t have what people wanted back then. Al Pacino. Richard Dreyfus. Gene Hackman. Dustin Hoffman. Jack was meant to be on the stage and David was meant to sing love songs and ballads in concerts. He tried rock and but really it didn’t suit him. It’s a shame they -Jack and David-always wanted more than to be satisfied with what they were best at-singing.
His TALENT was underrated. He sold out concerts but was not taken seriously due to his teen idol image. That was his biggest issue and lead to addiction & more for him. My comment is that he was much more talented than he was given credit for at the time.
