Outstanding piece of universal training. Any novice dairy producer would gain form this video. Thank you. Small World! We milked all kinds but it was Jersey's in the 1970's-'80's. Then, volunteer in Mozambique and find some Land O Lakes Jersey's. Soon, be in Malawi and again dairy cows. WOW! Stay Safe. Most of the "new farmers" in America might want to know of this series? US Extension has pretty much left these folks behind.
Dear John, very kind words and thank you. It means a lot. Just trying to put out a series of educational videos to help small scale dairy farmers with the essential skills to be successful. The more folks that view them the better.

Hi there! I’m hoping to (one day, when I’m not as affected by disability) become a farmer for dairy cows! Do you mind if I provide some tips for presenting videos? I don’t mean any ill will! It’s just that the video is a bit hard to follow!
Hello, the amoun t will depend on the size of the cow, her weight and the types of food you have. Sorry, but I cannot give secific answers for your cow
I have no expereince with super napier grass but I did see this link to the Dairy Association of Zambia where they were talking about it. facebook.com/DairyAssociationOfZambiadaz/?locale=en_GB Super Napier Grass at Malukutila farm Super Napier grass is a type of forage that is native to Africa. It is a highly nutritious and palatable grass that is often used as livestock feed. Super Napier grass is a perennial grass that can grow up to 3m high with nice thick leaves that are dark green. The blades of the leaves are serrated, and the leaf margins are slightly hairy. Mr Malukutila, a dairy farmer in Lusaka west, outlines his experience and the benefits from growing SN 20 Napier grass. " I have used this grass for the past one year and now l no longer have to rush for maize stocks which at times are very difficult to find and at the same time very expensive to buy. Further, the nutrient content in maize cannot be compared to that found in SN20 grass. Therefore, I will encourage dairy farmers to grow napier grass especially for feeding the animals in the dry period and also enjoy the benefits listed below: • It is a drought resistant crop, meaning it grows even during the dry season • It is an easily digestible crop by the dairy animals and has between 15% to 18% protein content. • The crop can be harvested every SIX weeks, meaning you can cut and harvest the crop up to eight times in one year, • Under good management, this grass SN20 can feed about forty dairy animals per year from one hectare. • You have potential to harvest one hundred and ninety big bales of grass from one hectare planted grass, as one hectare can produce up to five hundred (500) tonnes per year • Low fertilizer requirement as crop is grown on organic fertilizer only. • It has potential to increase your milk production.
Most people would give 1 kilo of madeya for every litre of milk produced. This helps to make the most of milk production but also helps with fertility. You need to cow to be eating lots of energy for the ovaries to work, for the cow to come on heat and to get pregnant. The last thing you want is a thin cow

Nice presentation!! When you say energy does it include concentrates aswell?
Yes, the energy is from all the feed - forage and concentrates
@@smallscaledairyschool thank you noted.. but I guess maize bran can also help looking at the cost of concentrates.

Can a cow have retanded growth???
A cow can have retarded growth if she hasn't been properly fed or was poorly fed as a young animal. Good nutrition is key to successful dairying
It's good, that is my favorite task
very nice.
