Mastitis detection in dairy cows
What is mastitis? How do you detect it? What should you do if you find it? Mastitis is the most common disease in dairy cows and there is a lot of confusion about mastitis detection.
Some farmers treat cows that don’t have mastitis. This video explains what mastitis is and how to accurately detect it.
Follow the ten strip rule so you are examining milk from the milk producing tissue. This is the accurate way to detect mastitis. Remember, if the milk is normal after ten strips then the cow does not have mastitis. If the milk has clots or abnormalities after ten strips then she has mastitis. You can contact your vet or livestock technican on the best treatment

Milk quality; Understanding TBC (Total Bacteria Count) or Standard Plate Count (SPC) in bulk milk
มุมมอง 4869 หลายเดือนก่อน
TBC, or total bacteria count, or Standard Plate Count (SPC) measures the number of bacteria in bulk milk. Bacteria come from three sources, the environment, milking equipment and the cow when she has clinical mastitis. Bacteria grow quickly in warm conditions. They do not grow in the bulk tank as this milk is kept cold at 4C. High numbers of bacteria cause milk to go sour quickly, to fail the a...

Ringworm in cattle is a zoonotic disease that can spread from cattle to man. It is very difficult to treat in cattle. Thank you for these great videos. I'm starting a subsistence farm that will combine pasture raised beef and dairy cattle, as well as poultry. I'm wondering if you can point me to resources on newborn beef calf feeding. Is it possible to collect colostrum from beef cows after birth, or is there a different strategy, like simply providing a clean and comfortable spot for the cow and calf to remain together for the first 24 hours? Your videos are great, and much appreciated!

      Good luck with your new venture, sounds exciting. It's important to keep your beef cow in a clean environment at and after calving. Leave the calf with the cow. You could try and milk the beef cow but the problem is that they are not used to being milked and will kick. I suggest leave the calf with the cow and check that it is drinking. If in doubt, lift and bring the calf over to the cow. Make sure the calf gets lots of colostrum. For the first 8 weeks of life, the calf should get as much milk as it wants to drink to make it really strong and healthy. Good luck

      Most people would give 1 kilo of madeya for every litre of milk produced. This helps to make the most of milk production but also helps with fertility. You need to cow to be eating lots of energy for the ovaries to work, for the cow to come on heat and to get pregnant. The last thing you want is a thin cow

    . good job what is the ideal time post insemination for manual diagnosis of cattle pregnancy

    • @smallscaledairyschool
      @smallscaledairyschool 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Three months is an easy time to confirm a pregnancy. You can feel the uterus has swollen and there are cotyledons which feel like buttons just before the surface of the uterus. More experienced individuals can detect pregnancy from about two months of age or even erlier but this requires training with a very experienced vet or technician.
