Migration crisis in the Sahara: Algerian police accused of violence at Niger border • FRANCE 24

NGOs are sounding the alarm amid fears a humanitarian #crisis is underway in Assamaka, a village in northern #Niger close to the Algerian border. In this small locality in the middle of the Sahara, hundreds of #migrants are regularly turned away by the Algerian authorities; NGOs say some are even abandoned in the middle of the #desert. The Algerian police are accused of violence against the migrants, who come from sub-Saharan #Africa. Several thousand of them are now waiting in overcrowded transit centres in Niger. Some migrants want to go to Europe, but others simply want to be sent back to their country of origin. FRANCE 24's Harold Girard reports.

I say, Algeria should set up an airport at the border with shuttle flights to Paris that takes these migrants to France. I think it's worth the cost of flights to help these migrants reach their destination. Maybe even the benevolent France will help pay for the flights 🙂
