Hey Leon, I wanted to personally thank you for all you do. I have an American Tele from the custom shop with active EMGs with coil splitting. I've been working with my AX8 and your help has been amazing. I was thinking of getting a Gretsch hollow body with Fitertrons to get that Smithereens, dirty, jangly sound. Using my Fender, I tried one of your presets - 1.6 vibroverb and wow!! I got the tone I was looking for! Especially with the coils split. I LOVE it! Not currently looking for any more guitars. This may sound gushy but I can't thank you enough. What you do matters!!
I'm amazed of the AX8's amp and caps (IR functionality). I've had a Helix and are running Kemper right now - to my ears and subjektive point of view AX8 are emulating amps very well and have stunning effects. A very full sound are coming out of my speakers from your demonstration. I wish they still would make this modeller - reconsider the production, please 🙄.
It really is amazing how good this still sounds. Everyone freaking out about the FM3 on the forums should just buy a used AX8.
Yeah if you can't wait for an FM3 the AX8 will do just fine.

The Axe-Fx 2 still sounds great
The AX8 will still sound amazing in 10 years...all that it's missing is a sick onboard UI and a touchscreen.
Yeah by then we'll all have little bluetooth neural implants in our ears so we can bring up Axe-Edit terminator style
I can't wait for this...but in all honesty you nailed it before. How much 'better' can this stuff get without a paradigm shift in the technology? Answer: Not much...just easier to use, smaller and cheaper. We're there now...ya just gotta pay the piper a smidge.

I'd pass on the touch-screen for live playing. Occasionally, there's a lot of shoe crud and beer flying around.

Always refreshing to see you use Fractal stuff and more when you come back to prior versions. It’s not crap and was good for pro musicians until 3 came out. I have a AxeFx 2 XL+ and just by hearing you, I still think Ax8 and Fx2 are serious platform. When people say they hear fizz...Funny enough there wasn’t any prio FX3 😁. Thanks Leon to stay a true source of inspiration. You know your shit man....Keep rock on !

IMO the only "better" option than an Axe-Fx II/AX8 is the Axe-Fx III, and even that depends on what your needs are.

Funny I had AxeFxII, IIXL+, ax8 and finally AxeFxIII... then tried a Kemper for one month and rediscovered what an amp can really sound like!!! Wish I had just the Kemper. Fractal stuff is good for effects but amps all have the same spongy digital sound... and something like if the sound was “doubled” with harsh frequencies....but that’s the best modeler, for sure. Can’t wait for what Quad Cortex will bring to the game!

Great video Leon! Do you still think an Axe FX2 is still a great alternative to the Axe Fx3/FM3 in 2023?
Between an Axe-Fx 2 and an FM3 i'd probably go with an FM3 if they were priced similarly. If the 2 is a lot cheaper then it still sounds great!
Are these presets still floating around anywhere? The dropbox is deleted which is understandable considering its been 4 years. Leon is by far one of the most helpful AX guys on the internet....!
That vibrato lux sounds nothing like that on mine. Really had to work at it to brighten it up like that.
Thank you Todd for the lesson. I love the C++ preset. I am struggling to learn how you were able to change the Amp setting, (FAT) from OFF to ON in Scene 1 and 4. You remain in the Y state so its not X/Y toggle. Scenes don't remember amp settings unless you use X/Y state but you did it another way. Can you share your secret?

Hi Leon... I'm a fan of your videos. Some really helpful info. I have a question I figured you may be able to help me with... I bought an AX8 about a year ago hoping I can avoid lugging around a head to jams. AX8 thru a power amp (ART SLA2) to a 2x12 with vintage 30's. Sounded good, but can't get the chunk I'm looking for no matter how many tweaks I make. Finally got great heavy tones going thru an audio interface using the preamps, thru Reaper and thru my studio monitors. Is it possible that adding a preamp pedal will make such a big difference going thru power amp to the 2x12? Greetings from the USA, by the way. Thanks... Steve
Amp modelers are not best used thru Any kind of amp head with like celestion speaks or any other kind of speaks, they're best used thru a full range speaker with a clean power head that's why it sounds better thru interface/monitor speaks. Invest in a amp/cab setup made for amp modelers

Ax8 never disappoints! I'm coming from a Line6 POD HD500 and I'm wondering if it might want to purchase a used AX8 rather than a new FM3. I see AX8's footswitch concept is similar to the POD one and maybe I could find a unit at a good price. What do you think about it?

Leon, I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this, but I figured I’d give it a shot. I run my AX8 through a QSC K10.2. The power part is great, but the tone feels lacking the “amp in a room” vibe, since the QSC seems to hype the highs and lows and the mids seem to not be as ballast as your average real amp. Wondering if you have any experience with the QSC and if you could recommend an eq’ing solution that will maximize the AX8’s performance through the QSC. Love your channel, brother!! Thanks!! 🤘🏻👍🏻🙏🏻

Assign a footswitch to the tempo. Then in the delay block set your preferred delay subdivision.

My AX8 sounded amazing until I got my III, and then it still sounded amazing but the III sounds amazing Turbo boosted + NOS!
So I sold it and now I've got my pot of cash waiting the FM3 coming out
The new owner loves it, says it's one of the best pieces of guitar gear he's ever owned, and I couldn't agree more

I have the atomic amplifire 12 and love it but I have a chance to buy ax8 at a pretty good price and I'm sure there's tons of more amps cabs and features with the ax8 but is it really worth the hype, will it sound that much better than the atomic? I don't want to invest the money and be disappointed that the tones and sounds don't blow away the atomic. Long story short,should I just stick with the atomic save myself the money and move on

Thank you for this vid! Great tone from AX8 for sure. Quick question: do you need to plug the AX8 into a power amp first or can you plug it directly into a power speaker/cabinet to hear the sounds? Also, same question for the Axe-Fx III. Thanks!
You need some sort of amplification, whether it's a powered speaker or a power amp and guitar cab.

How do you set modifiers for gain without using Axe edit just using the unit
Does this thing come with pedals or presets for Fuzz distortion? Like an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff?
I feel like that's one of the biggest weaknesses with this thing. The effects are underwhelming, and the fuzz pedals just sound straight up bad. There is a Big Muff (they call it PI FUZZ) but it doesn't sound like the real thing.
The stuff that does sound good (reverbs and delays) eat up the CPU really quick and put hard limits on your patches. I've owned an AX8 for probably like 6 or 7 years now, and somewhere along the way I had to pick up an HX Effects to supplement it.

Hi Leon, I just downloaded all your patches from Axechange. They are incredible. There are about a dozen patches that I'm getting no sound from even though the scenes appear to be changing. The effects change on screen but no sound. Do you have any idea why that's happening? Thank you sooooo much for the patches!!! All the time and effort you put into this is greatly appreciated!!! Makes it sound so much better and much more fun to play.
You need to specify a cabinet. Took me awhile to figure this one out too!

Leonne if I use an 10 band MXR eq pedal with the AX8, you think it give it a 3d sound like your FM3

Amazing presets LEON dear ! I am still playing live with AX 8.Made 2 ..3 favorite tones and using the volume knob from the guitars as facing a real amp. So no much philosophy involved here.I have one question. I was a big fan of having 3 or 4 pedals on the pedalboard ( I had( still have) Diezel Zerrer-Green Comp- a reverb a Delay and Lehle Booster)). Can you make in the future a video with an AX 8 used as a normal pedalboard? Like having 3..4 ..5 pedals linked ( for old schol players) lets say 1st knob compressor, second distorsion, third reverb ,fourth delay fifth volume or eq? like in a normal pedalboard with analog pedals. Is it possible to do this kind of presets with AX 8? I endorse Mezzabarba amps also .. I would love to use the Mezzabarba together with the AX8.I use it sometimes with a Lehle AB switch in a major jazz festival- so in the final were 3 channels. AX 8 left Right and Mezzabarba a little cranked ( 9 o clock at ODrive channel) and with no FX . The sound was very pleasing...If Fractal would put a thru bypass mono extra output for a tube amp would have been great. Sorry 4 many words written. Congrats and take care !!!

Hi Leon, really love your videos man! I just have a quick question(and I'm sure you've been asked this more than once I assume)...I have the FX8, but I have an opportunity to buy an AX8. I want it because of the amps modeling of course BUT...I still want to use my Peavey 6505+ distortion as well and my real cab. What is the configuration to make that work if I want to switch back and forth? 4cm? Do you have a video explaining this already? Thanks!!

Leon Todd Thanks! But I know it doesn’t work like the fx8...so how do I (for exemple), use a Fender clean, then use my Peavey distortion for rythm? Do I have to put a block in the chain? Maybe I seem confused but it’s because I am haha I don’t want to use cab sim, it’s really just using amp modeling with the Peavey poweramp.
@@bengirard1984 in that case guitar - ax8-peavey power amp. Turn global cab and power amp modelling off and go
