It seems all these producers fall into two types: very precise or very free and easy

That's probably pretty accurate. It's the artist or the engineer, I suppose.

What an awesome studio. It’s like a museum. I love that he has such passion for the history of everything he owns. Incidentally, the Dunes is one of my favourite dirt pedals too. Sounds utterly classic, but totally versatile, dynamic and usable as well.

I'd like to tell earthquaker as a whole that these videos are invaluable in a time where learning from ppl in real life is impossible due to the horrible gatekeeper mentality of everyone down to the employees at the local music store up to some real mainstream artists if you started a school I'd enroll js

I feel the same way about these. Very inspiring and also encouraging. Makes me feel like all this time I spend with my digital 8 track experimenting and exploring is just what I should be doing

Yo you’re definitely right about that, thankfully the places near me aren’t like that. But we’ve all experienced some form of elitism from somebody at some music-related shop. Really sucks.
Keep at it bro. Watch some Pensado’s Place too! It focuses on the engineering aspect of music recording, more in-the-box stuff, but it’s INVALUABLE INFORMATION, just like these videos.
But his videos are a straight university course quality type of thing. You WILL learn how to engineer and produce quality music from his videos.

This was by far my favorite one of these I've seen. I learned so much from Joel, and like his ethos on creating records is so fascinating. Please never stop.
And also, one video editor to another, mad props to your editor(s). These videos are all amazing.

Julie can stay in my room. No funny business, and I promise not to touch your Red Stripe------beer, get yr minds out of the gutter) to come play in my backyard in Michigan. It HAS to happen.
