I watched it as a refresher since it's been almost 30 years when I last used a compass.
A thumbs up and a comment for the algorithm.
I can't stress enough how important showing these videos. So many get lost and there not even far from the trail they left off of. So many so called hard core hikers still don't even have one on them if and when there found. Some rangers in some national forest even say there something about a area that messed with a compass. So checking before you go off the trail could be life saving maybe as well. I watch a lot about the missing 411 cases and they'll blow your mind on how some just disappear.

It is not exact like a lensatic compass. But, it will help in general direction necessity. I wore one for years. Changed watches and bands. Need to secure another. I like the little device.

Great video! When I first started scuba diving I found that swimming under water I and my buddy would not be able to go in a straight line. You usually couldn’t see very far, and when we would surface we would be way off course. Coming back was just as bad, we would surface and found we were way off course. This required more swimming than needed. I quickly learned to use my wrist compass to stay on course, just like you used your button compass. I would set the “lubber lines” around the north needle and check periodically to make sure we were on course. We could surface where we wanted, and coming back we just kept 180 degrees from direction out, and got right back to our entry point. Saved a lot of swimming and air. Very simple to do, and in the woods it can save your life. Daniel Boon is supposed to have said he had never gotten lost in the woods but he had been bewildered for a few days.

I was caught in a sudden snowstorm while hunting, one time, 100 yards from the main trail , and walked in circles ,never thought it could happen to me.
SAME happened to me when I went in the National Forest off our property in NW Montana. It HAD snowed a lot previously and had about 2’ on the ground when I went in @12:30-1:00p..a bright sunny afternoon. I ‘broke trail’ from a KNOWN area and went deeper..NO COMPASS. As I got into more and more unfamiliar territory, with light fading, I came across a set of tracks, THEN another set..mine. The canopy of trees were indistinct, and I had NO way of knowing which way was which..I was lost. BIG time. I’d now been out for about 4 hours, run across MY tracks twice. With low light, a dull gray sky and now starting to snow..I PICKED a direction and from about every 30-50 yards I literally picked trees or a certain landmark to follow..just connecting the dots so to speak if only to keep a straight line. I was as nervous or worried as I’ve ever been and literally, probably only about a mile or mile and a half from our place as a crow flies. There was no break in the canopy and I KNEW there was a decent-sized lake (although fairly dry) SOMEWHERE in the vicinity. Fortunately, by a stroke of luck I found my way to the opposite side of the lake in which I went in. Just “lucky” really. I could’ve easily headed MORE West instead of the SE that I actually needed and hit on that got me back to the lake. Man, did I learn a lesson THAT day. Tired, thirsty and what started out as a deer hunt behind our place (an area I hunted EVERY year for 10 years plus) ended up being a ‘mini-survival’ adventure..one I wouldn’t want to repeat.

I love the great out doors i intentionally hike 2 weeks into the Idaho wilderness with my extreme weather goose down army bag and ruck pack . And get lost on purpose and just kill what I eat and find my own water and purify it and even have built a shelter for shits and giggles . I hope all people learn to do that .

Learned orienteering back in Fort Knox, when it was still the Home of Cavalry & Armor. One of best courses we ever had. Night navigation to this day, is my favorite memory of training.
It's a scouts bread and butter.
I carry a sharpie in my bag to mark rocks if I need to. Something as simple as breaking a branch and leaving it hanging works to mark as well.
Something to consider is those little compass can be affected by metal objects like a car or building I have a few that are accurate but I always try and keep a natural bearing using say the sun or a mountain or horizon to compare the compass to
All that and watch the sunrise and set.. if you’re out for days. 👍🏼

I learned how to use a compass when I was in the Boy Scouts.
Other than looking at one out of curiosity I can’t recall a time I’ve actually used one for land nav.
I also learned how to use my watch as a compass during daylight hours. This would be another good tool to have in the ol knoggin.
J Ray, The only thing I remember from Boy Scouts is how to tie a bowline & clove hitch, (and freezing on winter campouts).
Recently I started learning orienteering with a local map & a compass. As a retired guy, it's great exercise for the body & brain.
Thank you now I would know how to practice which I would have to do for this to sink in - it seems so abstract. Directionally challenged!

One of the most annoying things that I experience is walking around a large departmental store and coming out of the wrong exit only to find I’m parked on the opposite side. That problem has been solved with my watch compass!

I’ve worn a wrist compass for 25 years now. I’d feel naked without it. I’ve been using the suunto clipper compass for 7 yrs now and I love it. I need to add the BSS to my collection.

I have spent a lot of time in the forest hiking, camping, traveling, in my past. I have had a small liquid filled compass in my pocket along with a few other things for several years now, all just in case
How about a short on using just an analog watch to establish north or south in the northern hemisphere and vise versa for the southern hemisphere in case a button compass is damaged or nonexistent it's what I learned many years ago but yes I will be ordering one each of your quality compasses Definitely best quality I've seen ever and love the fact you can replace the lens Excellent idea a invaluable tool in navigation Thank You Sir for another fantastic product there is no equal 👍

You can also use a watch not set to daylight savings time as a compass too. By using the hands and sun you can find South and plot your heading from that. Though a button compass is faster and works at night time 😉.
Topography is important for where terrain mountains and hills are located I got mine at the ranger station

I have never been a big fan of the button compass the cheap ones develop bubbles and become useless yours is high quality
I think that anyone who goes hiking should learn basic navigation. I learned orientation in the Boy Scouts fifty years ago.

i use my watch mostly and also watch were the sun comes up or sets and just mark the sun as it goes down so when you leave camp in the morning you know

This is essential information. LEARN how to use a paper map and compass!! WHEN, (not if) the cell networks go down you need to know how to get to your designated RV point. In other words without your phone GPS, could you get to a designated place of safety and meet up with others? Learn to love maps - sounds stupid right? But knowing how to use a map and compass has saved countless lives and could save yours too.

At 3 min and roughly 19 second's talking about picking a object then head to it I've always called that dead wrecking but it doesn't matter what you call it it works
I know how to use a compass…But I have (Stupidly) went into the forest without my compass and got lost in a pretty big area, I was walking in circles. I climbed to a hill where I could see over the trees, didn’t really help but I heard a guy on the distance calling for his hunting dog. I just headed in that direction of his voice (Luckily he kept yelling) eventually I was able to locate him on the road and get myself out of the mess….I found the guy looking for his dog but didn’t see the dog! I never would have thought I would get lost but I did anyway, so basically always take your compass, things start to look the same when your In heavily wooded areas even if you (think) you know your way around.
I use a compass every time I go to the woods, I do need to try and apply that to maps though.

I like putting a compass on my sling, far from the weapon itself to reduce interference.
I still use my trusty military compass and map always works for me .
I’ve had a few of these, from TAD and Prometheus design. They are handy, but not super reliable with a metal watch over time.

Good idea! In my city, Calcutta, everybody installs GPS jammers for no reason without any legal restrictions. The Google Maps app page suddenly starts spinning abruptly in some places. A watch strap compass will be a physical extension to the map app if that happens. How much does this cost? Although, it may not be available in the markets here.
But the Earth is moving so by the time you arrive to the east destination is not east anymore!...lol. Seriously, great videos, I wish the survival videos were longer, as the other ones. Thanks for sharing

No we won’t. It will be too difficult to make them universal due to rubber straps being all sizes.
Most rubber strapped are around 20mm near the buckle. You could remove the buckle, as most are held in with a spring bar, and put it there. It would be under your wrist, but still usable. I used to wear my watch with the face down underneath the wrist. I don't think this would be much different. Just a thought.
