When w124came out the taxi drivers staged a protest in front of the factory due to manufacturing defects and lack of quality. U guys are looking at the good old days with rose tinted glasses

+Velin Ivanov Plastic is underrated. It lightweight and lasts forever. Plus the body shell is fully anodized in modern cars. Rust is a thing of the 80s and 90s
not for every car. what about. what about audi 80, golf 2. The new cars are made only for 5-6 years life. After that everything is starting to brake. Take at look at the comment of new car owners. The new cars are more expensive for repairs, service, more difficult too.

W124, W140, and W201 all were the last of the true Benzes. W202 and W210 gets partial creds compared to what came afterward. Any S class within the "2" series designation model designation is a basket case, with the 220 series being the worse. 221 and 222 try to recover, but are too complicated compared to the simple luxury of a well kept 140. Said by an owner of a 92 300D W124 ;) who works at a European car repair shop and has driven several examples of all these generations of Benzes.
I consider the Daimler-Chrysler era models like the W211,220,203 etc. some steps backwards (or inferior compromise) to earlier generation series like the W210,124,140 etc.
In more recent times, after getting rid of Chrysler & being a full German company again, the 'standards' it seems have improved back somewhat. But that being said, i must say i remain not at ease with their newer models in terms of the looks & styling...definitely still prefer those from the 90's era in that regard !
I appreciate if they do an 'updated old' reborn edition of say the W124 or 201 (somewhat like what they do with the G-Class) i'll definitely buy that over any of their current models !

The w210 is the worst Mercedes ever made. Due to the warranty pay outs Mercedes had to cover on bodywork corrosion. The most expensive in it's history!!

Just purchased my first car a few weeks and I'm happy to let people know I drive a stylish 1993 300e. Got it with only 70,000 miles!!!! Truly an incredible find and all my friends think I'm crazy that I bought a 22 year old car. All the jokes about it going to breakdown and stuff.. The car feels and runs like its brand new! Can't wait to show the same friends the same car in another 20 years when this baby is still running and outlasting the new cars put out today.

I've just bought a 92 250d turbo with 450.000km on board. After changing regular fluids, made 880km in a single both seaside and mountains, at 36 degrees Celsius. The general impression is that it could GO on like this forever...
How much did it cost ya ?

I own a w210 but I can't deny that the w124 is the best executive car ever build.
My W124 Coupe is from 1993. The last 4 years I drove 75000km and the only things I have to change is the battery and the tires. Great car and a pleasure to drive and it is still rolling.

This was the car I used to learn how to drive when I was 16. The true definition of a luxury car. I remember it came with a analog phone that was so cool back then. Build quality was incredible. When you shut the door it sounded like shutting a safe at the bank. I wish we still had it.

My 1990 300TE is 252,000 miles. It performes so well even today.
Loved my old W124 300E… magic ride, great to drive, lasted over 27 years… I’m in a W211 E350 now.

Our 124 is on more than 450 000km and 28 years later we pay only for consumatives. Just amazing car.

Was a rock solid car. The only issues we had was corrosion and that the petrol engine started leak oil from the top. Otherwise almost scary quality. At that time way ahead of competition.

BUT and dont get me wrong. The Mercedes Benz today are great cars but they arent nearly the excellent cars they were from the 70s to the early 90s. I recently drove the W212 which was good but not nearly as great as the W124 was

my w124 just went past 333 333 km :)
I recall back 10 years ago, a W210 taxi which i've regularly used since new clocked annual average of 300000 KM...the driver told me every 600000 km or so certain major transmission parts replaced but overall i note that even after reaching the 2000000 km point, the performance & comfort remained largely no different although the seat material began to peel off after 7 years usage.
So, it can withstand prolonged usage as a taxi, i'll have no hesitations to consider (a well maintained good condition) one for private car use as the mileage would be far much lower & it cannot be any less lasting as such.

I just bought me a E 200 W124 with 85,000 miles on the odometer. In almost perfect condition with original green paint. Rides well....makes the bumpy a breeze and fuel performance is good. Not as agile as my 2014 ML 350 Bluetec but gets ups a bit. Not sure how to determine what year it is precisely.
I bough an 1989 300e and im so surprised in how well it rides after 27 years and 218k miles. That engine is so smooth. (m103)

@@Knakkerman- I sold it already. It gave me no problems except for small things like an oil leak and a coolant hose ripped. That was an easy fix. Check out my w124 off road video on my channel!

I owned the W 123, W 124, and W 210. They were all fantastic cars.
Even though there were some issues with the W 210 series, it was
still a great car.
The later models certainly have their upgrades and yet I love to drive my w123 240d with a manual 4 speed. I just upgraded the fuel injectors to the Bosio nozzles and it shaved off 2 seconds from 0-60 which was impressive since it is an engine that lacks in horse power but is fun to drive. Once you get up to highway speed she keeps up really easily with the flow of traffic.

I currently own a 1994 Mercedes-Benz E320. W124. and she is still running very strong. running without any problems. I love this car. I want to restore it. I don't care about the money. it's the sentimental value. people see my car in 2017 and they love it still

Badr Annasser hey, I'm driving my 1992 w124 with also the 250D option with the OM602-Engine , daily 😅 it has 750.000km and is still going, no compression loss or oil pressure loss (sure, it is not new, but highly usable) if you change your oil and all other fluids, change all your filters and look for rust, it is a car for your life 😅 I love it, I'm just about to rebuild it

Agree, owning the little brother w201 with om601 - only small rust problem is around one of the jacking holes and kept well in check by thin/penetrating oil film treatment. Already a rare classic, though parts are available everywhere. Mixed driving 38 mpg, highway 43 mpg. If only I could keep my self in as good shape over time, as the benz ;)

This side plastic panelling (which debuted in the W126 S-Class ?) which also available in the W201,124 & 140 etc. subsequently, why was it no longer offered in future models & series ??
Was it abandoned due to aesthetical or styling reasons or any real practical grounds ?
Because come to think of it, it does protect the lower body waistline from scratches or dents & reduces the need to respray in the event of damage as the panel is replaced instead of a door or fender being resprayed.
My W124-300E 24V 3.0 220hp 1993 with automatic transmition still works like from the day 1.

My grandparents had a E280 as a T-Model. They had the car 20 fucking years. NOTHING! This engine is indestructible. The only thing after 15! Years was a turn signal relay. They sold the car with 450,000 km
I just bought a 1991 300e w124 109,000 miles peanut butter Interior in mint condition $1500, I could have bought a 1999 w140 but these are alot more reliable less electronic gremlins and just as good even better

kerk tp The sistem of the W140 also included the same big complex moving wiper used on the w124. The diference was that the w140 also used a small simple moving wiper along the big one. The small can't be seen well in the film, but I'm prety sure it is a w140, by the smoother and treapezoidal shape of the headlights, vs the more rectangular ones from the w124.
