Merry Christmas and happy holidays to those of you celebrating! :) As always, keep in mind that tier lists are highly subjective and not set in stone at all!
Warning! Long list below! Finisher: - No comment, absolutely BIS in almost all areas. Scorpion: - I would say its effectiveness in PvE is less important overall vs PvP. I still think its one of the best additions regardless. Serenity: - Again, no comment. Simply awesome. Deep Freeze: - Its pretty awesome in most pure mage builds. Definitely an S tier contender. Boltcaster: - Fairly strong in PvP, but not entirely sure about PvE. Requires hard investment into boosting lightning damage and has situational perks. I would consider it to be around B tier. Abyss: - Another strong melee option for mages. Its utility and strength in both PvP and PvE cannot be understated. S tier for sure. Lifetaker: - It lends itself as a powerful off-hand utility weapon for all ranged weapons in all scenarios. Not fantastic by itself but meant to be a side piece for your ranged weapon of choice. Pestilence: - You run this artifact if you want to focus primarily on plaguing groups in all scenarios. It is still THE anti-healing weapon of choice even after buffs to plague-related perks The Wall: - Does best at what its meant to do. I would say A tier at least. The downside, while rarely ever an issue, still bites on occasion. The Butcher: - You would be surprised how many people run this in PvP. If they don't have another artifact being used for an offhand, this is what is usually used. At least A tier. Inferno: - Definitely used for melee-oriented FS builds with incinerate/flamethrower. Michael: - One of the most versatile shields to use for PvP. Kite shields are making a small comeback and this one is a strong contender for many flail builds. At least B tier material. Freya's Francisca: - While niche for making use of the less popular throwing tree, it is still the best hatchet for that purpose. B tier for sure. Mjolnir: - Mighty gavel is so useless and yet they put a useless perk on top of it. Its only better in PvE vs mobs that hammer is already strong against. C tier is fine but its definitely D tier IMO. Odo: - A bit underated IMO. Its still a good choice in Lifesteal builds for healers. The unique perk is extremely niche and makes it less desirable over others, but still solid as a weapon. C tier The Mechanic: - This would be good if using the Trapper tree was viable. In most cases its not. Vengance: - A Lifestaff is only used to heal. Any damage applied is secondary. Trying to buff its damage when its not viable in the first place is futile. Arguably the weakest artifact in the game. Gladiator: - The most disappointing of shields. It assumes that you will be using a SnS with it considering the perks which are also mediocre. No base damage increase = not even worth glancing at. You pick a round shield to begin with to do more damage. For being named Gladiator, it leaves much to be desired in any combat situation.
I'm almost fully bis on my Boltcaster build and can say with confidence that it's incredible. Most people are running full opal with one or two physical gems at most (Onyx or Moonstone), and it still hits ridiculously hard, because people just aren't going to run full lightning resist. There's a Boltcaster Rapier combo that can one-shot healers. It's very good right now.
Thanks for the breakdown. Tier-rankings are indeed subjective, but it's good info to have when judging for yourself. As a mostly-solo Expedition NON-enjoyer, Dark Matter is difficult to come by, and this helps when thinking about what to allocate Artifact upgrade limited materials towards. Also, this is a much better video than the last few, in that you are managing to suppress the obvious Existential Dread and Hopelessness About The Future Of New World from your voice and underlying energy! Thanks! Most of us also share this feeling *cough* 5-months = HALF A YEAR of no projected interesting content! *cough* but there needs to be a bare minimum of Hopeium-huffing every day in order to find motivation to even log on and do Dailies. Cheers.
Nice tier list Duke! With the good artifact I can make strong builds With the bad artifacts I can make meme builds With Gladiator...well.... a new skin? 😅
Not agreeing much on Butcher honestly..succesfully ran that one for a good while in pvp. I suppose these kinda lidts are somewhat subjective for each person depending on how and what they build
I agree with you, butcher with ring that has bloodletting and if you add more sources of bleed like keenly jagged and bleeding sweep/skewer on spear for example you have so much bleed going on that your heartrune will refresh like hell, I'm playing with healing heart perk stalwart stoneform and the uptime on bleeds and proc time between heartrunes in combination with full heavy armor gives you so much survivability.
@Zeheroth69 so much slash resistance going around makes it weak currently. Whirling blade is a slash based attack and bleeds scale with slash. As a healer I can ignore butcher assassins trying to kill me as they don't do squat
Not agree on the Odo ! (Healer POV) And i think most healer are wrong to not using it , I litteraly destroy and lifesteal so much with it making easy to 2v1 ; the flail pair with a shield is solid ++ but you need to not get a traditional round shiel ; Refreshing , Keenly jagged , Enchated on it for exemple, make your damage back and getting nice life stealing...S tier for me !
Vengeance damage boost helps a lot in opr where most of your healing comes from light attacks (the damage boost increases the heal from the projectile passing thru friendlies)
I would like to mention how disgustingly powerful Michael's Refreshing Cleanse is. Even with a medium armour build in OPRs, I was way tankier than I should've been. I just wish that the shields would count as weapon artifacts so I can run Featherlight with Michael and stay in Light.
I very much disagree with the Hatchet (Freya's Francisca) It's one of the best weapons for PvE tanking and DPS, but you don't run the throwing tree. You run rending throw - berserk - torrent. As for PvP, I agree it's niche if you are going for damage, but it's decent as an off-hand weapon.
It used to be that way on PTR for both Odo and the perk on Michael and then they nerfed it on both. I think nerfing it was fair since the self-heal was insane, but increasing it to a 3s CD was way too much
You mentioned Lifetaker being useful for ranged players, like healers, but what about paired with say a musket? I've been running musket with finisher recently and I'm curious if you think Lifetaker could be a better option. I primarily play the open world PvP modes for reference. Thanks!
When I said ranged players, I definitely meant Muskets, too! I think Lifetaker is a great option for Musket, but keep in mind it's less safe than having a Rapier offhand!
@@DukeSloth yeah I've been using finisher as an offhand with it and it's been incredible. The build does loads of damage and I'm still able to get away with 100 CON
A little PvP Insight: SnS heavy tanks slot butcher cause its BiS. THe bleeding you apply adds crazy to the heartrune generation, since it applies bleed with both spins from whrling blade. if you hit 3 targets you get 6 seperate bleeding ticks. Thats why its 100% BiS for SnS point tanks.
Boltcaster is a B at best. Shirking Lightning and bolt are both very situational and bolt only works on basic attacks. Its more a PVE bow then anything and even then that is questionable. If bolt worked on ALL attacks, yea it would me worthy of an A rating
I have not tested it, but wouldn't the increase in damage given by Vengeance increase the healing on things like Blissful Touch and Sacred Ground, which state healing is based on weapon damage? Because if that is the case, maybe we could see a increase in healing power too, which would definitely make it useful. If not, then compared to a regular BiS Life Staff, it can have 3 excellent perks + Enchanted, so it is better... But barely. I think one would be better off with Lifetaker as a secondary weapon.
Syncretic bow > Boltcaster by a long mile which makes Boltcaster C/D class in a lot of people’s opinions including mine. Shirking Lightning and the passive are useless 80% of the time while you’re missing out on runeglass/ attunement effects.
This. Boltcaster is extremely overrated. I've been maining a Bow/X dexterity build since NW launch and I'm not even collecting Boltcaster at this state
i Personally don't agree on Mjolnir, it's still offer the most single hit damage out of all melee classes ( PVP ), i play Mjolnir + GA in light full lightning dmg. I can confidently say that it's the only light counter to the heavy meta in arena. No hammer can reach the same effective damage in any scenario, and of course, don't bother using gavel, you will run it without using those 2 perks, you are not missing out any damage anyway. I think it's bottom B tier, since it's also effective with other weapon, you just need to play it on his strenght. And there is NO WAY the butcher is not A tier, absolutely insane for an heavy sns in arena/open world, criminally underrated.
People still don't understand whwt the artifacts are, and if it noes not boost the current meta usage of the weapon it is considered bad. But if the artifacts were just the BIS for every weapon it would render the existing weapons useless... Therefor many of the artifacts are there to boost strange and alternate builds, have a very specific purpose, , or are simply good offhands the enhance another BIS weapon.
Bow artifact its FUC*ING BROKEN bro... heavy atks hits 6k dmg on people using 4 ele aversion, 2 enchanted ward, 20% lightning protection(runes). I have seen hits of 9K on people without proper protection. that's fking crazy for a long range weapon. I know so many people who are leaving the game after getting into PVP because its just so much unbalanced that it becomes annoying.
I think they need to slow down on the release of artifacts the newest string of armor ones for example are very uninspiring. I cant be displaced. I am faster for longer. Very boring in design frankly. Maybe they can give them unique effects that you can activate that do something actually cool. example On heartrune activation gain 100% haste or something actually powerful to prompt someone to play with it.
A more accurate way to rate these would be to have a pvp column and pve column. Stack the artifacts in each category. Mixing pvp/pve and rating them is useless and just a way to troll views.
The Abyss gives you a PvP OPR mage build that is arguably the best by far, even more then using a BB. It truly allows you to be a solo hunter putting charge and bburnout together along with reap.
Scorpion Sting in S tier? it's basically useless now that cooldown time is 20s.. Unless you had tons of time to practice with it and get good at aiming you'll be wasting your time considering that most people are used to it now and block / dodge / roll out of pull etc... the spear was fun but now why would you use it when the only purpose for it is to pull someone in - it's hard to hit the target, & the cooldown is long as fuck.. there are so many weapons still broken as fuck and do insane damage that are WAAAAAY easier to use. RIP Scorpion Sting, you will be missed.

They should definitely remove the cooldown on Odo's defense, to make it heal on every blocked attacks. That's what gonna revolutionize tanks gameplay.
