As someone who had a full ragazzon straight through system on 145qv, it was great. But if you do any kind of long drive - it did drone and was awful. Plus starting it up in a housing estate.. was awkward at anytime before 10am! I've added silencers now - You made the right decision!
Congrats! A nice exhaust also gives you that almost whistling smooth sound both at idle and when opening the throttle and I can hear it with this new one as well.
Matt, there was an on shelf exhaust. For my third QV on a X reg, I bought a full Imasaf Sport from the cat back. Sounded incredible and was around £320 delivered in mild steel.
I took a Volvo there about 7 years ago to have a custom rear section made, I found their work average & nothing to write home about. They're cheap enough though, so I guess you get what you pay for.
The new exhaust system sounds sweet, so much so you may need to re record the intro ;) think I need one of your universal cupholders as mine has only one, through I think my teanshelf may trump a R8!
Lovely job. I've had to go full on custom exhaust before this. In fact, the next time I do the exhaust on the Volvo 240 wagon it is getting the full custom stainless system. That should last my Lifetime. Full custom was the only way to get dual exhaust on my 78 and 79 Thunderbirds. A dual exhaust was not offered even though the cars came with twin catalytic converters.
Unfortunately not enough Americans are prepared to put up with interesting and different at the expense of less easy to live with, but there are some who would love it. I wonder if the Lane museum has one?
Great job Matt. When i bought it from the previous owner my 146 had a a terrible "custom made" piece which was rattly at idle and had a terrible droning noise at highway speeds... It was the first thing that had to be fixed, I really don't know how can people tolerate driving with terrible exhausts.
I had to get the rear section on my 1997 toyota hilux replaced this year because it failed because the muffler wasn't the best the muffler shop were able to source the correct part to fit the acual pipe and the muffler was larger than the one that was on it been a flat top ute it fitted ok but the bracket had to be modified the mechanic had to grind and drill it l watched the process the year before l had to get the front section changed this was easier that was it failed the regestration inspection
Great job, nice to see that these shops still exist! I have treated my Bravo to a stainless rear damper which is also custom fitted and it is such an improvement in the sound. By the way, I have had some experience with fixing this aircon system in my Marea, it can be a faff. Cause of a lot of problems were faulty electronics under the bonnet (relais and stuff) which prevented the fan from starting at the correct time which in turn caused too much pressure in the system and all kinds of failures. So make sure to have that checked as well, apart from the obvious stuff like leaking hoses etc.
It is a good sign that there are still people about to make custom exhausts as if one runs older cars they are essential. learnt a lesson in having a complete stainless system made for a PVT in that they change the exhaust note considerably, in this case for the better, not so good if original sound is one's preference, stick to a mild steel one.
that is likely to be part of it - the earths are terrible on this car! One of the headlights stopped working between leaving the garage and filming the walk around!
Is that a standard set-up, a cat and 3 silencers!? That must produce some back-pressure! I'd be tempted to take a silencer out somewhere and just straight pipe that section to see if the noise is okay still!
Loving the custom cupholder, need to fit it with some sort of clip/hook so it can be belted in, tea/coffee stains all over the interior after sharp braking/cornering is not a good look.
This is the sort of place I need to take my 960 to. It's a hodgepodge of various pieces of metal shoved together - somebody cut the cat off the car last January. It doesn't fit right and hangs too low and even scrapes on the ground at times. I also need to get my AC sorted, the pipes to the condenser have been cut so ideally need to find somewhere to replace/manufacturer/attach to what I have already - I already have a new condenser and brand new pressure switches. Any ideas of where to go? Will keep an eye out to see where you go.
I like the sound of the new exhaust system. Sounds very nice when revved, I'm sure it is quiet on the motorway. Hope you find a specialist for the HVAC, pretty sure the system will need to be evacuated. Does it have CFC free refrigerant?
It is a big shame that a car so attractive has been done in by simple fact that it suffers from crappy Italian build quality where some things are no even assembled right at the factory. i was interested in a Fiat 500 (The one made starting in 2007). I had a few as rental cars and liked how though it was small on the outside, it had plenty of room inside for use as a commuter car and was very good on highways. Sadly hey were unreliable and it would be a pain to get it to the "salon" to get repairs done on it warranty wise so I passed. (If I can find one selling for cheap i will pick it up)
There is a custom made exhaust fitter’s on the same estate I work at in East Kilbride he is called Simons custom exhaust’s have a look on the web greetings from Scotland 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Really makes a bit of a joke of the MOT though doesn’t it? For it to have passed only a few weeks ago and you’re being suffocated inside - shows how bent it is. Car looks great though and exhaust sounds good!
Been wondering what the big deal is wae the Alpha.Probably spent mega bucks and not to mention time spent. Pennies just dropped. It's a luv job. So you enjoy yer yerself with it. Did i hear you say more Alpha content ot come? Excited 🤣
Neither bike nor car needs loud pipes. They do not save lives, they just add to the road rage. This is a good build, it has a strong burble without the parp of failure.
Air conditioning!!! Shandy drinking bed wetter open the window!!!. Or in true Alfa style are they broken? Nice car looks and sounds great. Got to be a keeper now??

Nice bit of work from those chaps Matt, couldn't imagine many places doing that nowadays. The wee AlfaRomeo looks and sounds great now, keep it.
Good to see this in a good state! I don't know how you juggle a fleet, work and life but you certainly make great videos for us! Cheers :)

Exhaust looks great, fuel tank straps need attention next and make sure subframes are rust treated and protected too as you probably know.
Congrats! A nice exhaust also gives you that almost whistling smooth sound both at idle and when opening the throttle and I can hear it with this new one as well.
It’s amazing how investing a few hundred quid is something as simple as an exhaust system can make such a huge difference. Nice work
Nice job sounds normal again……now matt can you get the black rover p6 running….
Lovely. One of the most satisfying repairs to any car. Great to see the beauty that is your Alfa 145 in good books again. Sounds superb.
That's a mighty perilous-looking ramp!
Yes, I would not fancy having to drive vehicles of all shapes and sizes onto it!

Brilliant find! Those guys really know their stuff 👌🏻👌🏻
Well all the Tipo-cars shared that floorpan. Fiat Tipo, Bravo, Coupe, Stilo etc, 145/146, 155, 156, GTV/Spider, GT, 147, Lancia Delta 2, Dedra, Lybra, etc etc
Yes, very well used platform, they got their moneys worth but I hadnt realised the Brava/Bravo still used it

Very nice! I so wish we had more classic Alfa’s over here in the US. That 145 would have been a peach over here.
You think Americans would have liked it ?
Unfortunately not enough Americans are prepared to put up with interesting and different at the expense of less easy to live with, but there are some who would love it. I wonder if the Lane museum has one?
Now that's a ramp
A great upgrade and perfect solution to a lack of spares!
Great new exhaust! Love these little shops that specialize in these things. Enjoy the sound and no more blowing exhaust.
Its much better! Several mechanic friends recommended them and they were right
Nice job! Looks just right now. And sounds good, too. 👍🏻
Great job Matt.

Makes all the difference, the 146 I reviewed felt much more like this does now, a different car almost

Looks great. wanting for one thing only. Air Con .
Isn't there a strap across the sump where the pioe goes through a kind of slot in the sump?
Still one of my favorites of the furious fleet!
I fitted a full cat back Imasaf system to mine about three years ago. Is very close to the original and cost around £300 I think.
I did on the Tomcat (full stainless) but couldnt find one for the 145!
Not being asphyxiated by your car is always nice.
Is there a small dent on the front offside wing??
Sounds great!

proper old school garage that
one near me that does stainless exhausts for £199

Its surprising how well it grips

this is the place for you, if they cant get it they can make it - Maidstone/Bower Street Exhausts
@@furiousdriving I'll definitely remember them. AC place, bodyshop place etc. The list that never ends with an old car!
Lovely job 🚗🚙🚘👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Matt, what happened with the rusty Lagonda conversion story, did it completely disintegrate?
I wonder if a backbox from an Alfa 147 would have worked ? I was able to source one of those online for my own 147 without too much trouble.
Depends what shape it is, might not have gone into that space

Thanks, it is nice to be in now. I had it regassed last year as it takes the new type of gas and seems to be holding so I think something is broken
Very nice.
Good job, nice car👍

Nothing wrong with the 500’s.
Extremely easy and cheap to fix and maintain.

Good to know. My Citroen ZX has an exhaust blow and the current exhaust looks like it’s been welded to fit. I’m 7 miles from EK.
@@JohnnyPaton happy to help
Still sounds good
Is the appeal of these cars enough to overcome the almost constant repairing activity/cost Matt?
I dont know...Its great to look at fortunately
Does this mean you’re going to keep it? It’s a rare car now - and still stunning looking!!
Still on the fence, but I couldnt drive, never mind sell, a car that had started blowing that badly
@@furiousdriving why would you sell such a nice car.
How much to do that fix ?
It was about £400, but any custom will be different depending what they have to adapt or make
Thanks !
Hi and I have never owned a Alfa because of the reasons you said always require attention 😀 but keep up the good work hey
Show me any car of that age that doesn't require constant attention. It's 22 years old !
@@timhancock6626 hi I agree to a point but alfas weren’t very reliable cars when new back then for me
Matt any plans to straight pipe the Crown Victoria 😊
Maybe not a straight pipe but something a bit louder wouldnt hurt...

Could of got a custom stainless system made up for that price
not a custom made one
"So is it specifically for the car or more of a generic item?" .
"Err, no. It's one we get made up to fit anything."
😄
How much is a stainless steel exhaust for one of those ?
full stainless? Hard to say, Ive never found one, probably £1000
Even that one grand exhus would have beed worth it. It is about how the car is, not how much it breaks down.

As a biker I can say a loud pipe certainly saves lives.
Makes the idiot drivers who haven’t got any road sense notice you.
The fact there’s no cup holders in the 145 is evil!
car of the 90s...my 2005 156 didnt either
Air conditioning!!! Shandy drinking bed wetter open the window!!!. Or in true Alfa style are they broken? Nice car looks and sounds great. Got to be a keeper now??
Not broken at the moment, and that doesnt work when your in traffic!
Far too many silencers in that system for my liking 😉
It's not a rover 🤓🤔
