Ever since I decided to visit Mexico City in 2017, I've been watching your videos here and there. While there are other channels now that I really enjoy watching, your work is still the authoritative source for me w.r.t. anything I want to know about Mexico. Why is that? We enjoyed a nine-day colonial cities tour in 2015 and visited several of the places you mentioned. Oaxaca, Puebla, Mexico City, Queretaro, Guanajuato, and Mexico City were among them. I absolutely loved Oaxaca and Puebla. We did not spend enough time in Queretaro to really get a feel for it. Mexico City is way too big for me. The thing I remember about Guanajuato was walking up Lord only knows how many steps to get to the mummy museum! That city is beautiful, but it is too hilly for us. The trip was one I will always remember, and I hope to revisit some of our favorites some day. Also, we spent three weeks in Merida in 2017 and two weeks in Merida and Progresso several years before. I love Merida, but like you, I find it too hot for my tastes! Thank you for sharing the informative video. I enjoyed it.
I'll be moving to Puebla in January, but if I had to choose another place to live, it would be Querétaro. It's such a unique place. I felt so safe, comfortable, it was super laid back with such a great family friendly vibe. I definitely will be returning to explore even more once I get down there! 🥰
Easily THE BEST video I’ve seen on where to live in MX!! I am soon to be retiring, so def considering Mexico as an options. Just so many options, tough to nail it down.
Oops, you forgot my home city, Aguascalientes. Lovely, safe, clean, prospering and yet mellow...and few, if any, tourists! Yet I hope the word doesn’t get out on how perfect Aguascalientes is.
Cool Video! Thanks I have been all over Mex 26 Years. Cancun wasn’t on my list either because it was new but Culture is finally evolved there. I’ve lived in Holbox, & Tulum, Puerto Morelos. Hard to compete with amazing water parks and turquoise water. But more history in the pueblos you described. Good job 👏
Thanks Rob! Glad you enjoyed the video. I do love Holbox, Mujeres, and even Tulum, but just not sure I could live in them. Glad you have enjoyed your time there though! It all depends on what you're looking for!
I have been to Mexico only once, Puerto Vallarta. When I was in the Army on a tour overseas, I met a Mexican who was in the US Army. I still keep in touch with him, and he wants me to go with him to his home in Oaxaca. I think I will. Cheers.
I have not been to La Paz or Merida, but they are good choices from what I know. I like Puerto Vallarta best, but also like Guanajuato and Huatulco, also.
I am surprised San Miguel De Allende is not mentioned. The weather is perfect, food is very good, a little high on rentals but the town is beautiful. Bar scene, the restaurants are Plentiful, very clean city. Small town feel
Like I say in the video, it's a totally biased list of my favorite places and San Miguel just isn't one of my favorites. I understand why people love it, but it's just not for me :)
Love watching videos of places to go see in life! I’ve been to a few of these places you mention. Definitely Mex City is the best I’ve been to. So many things to do and see nearby! San Miguel de Allende is something to go to if you haven’t yet, amazing there! Also try and see as many Pueblo Mágicos as possible, they are incredible!
Thank you!!! This is the first video of yours that I've seen and I fully expected to see cities in the Yucatán. I was presently surprised to see 'real' Mexican cities, not ones that have been taken over by foreign tourists. CDMX-The BEST!!!! I found Guanajuato to be too maze-like. If you haven't visited Aguascalientes, it is very underrated. It has some of the best museums and the weather was not too hot in the summer.
Great video! Thanks. As a resident of Guanajuato I would like to add that for a small city there are MANY cultural events, museums, not to mention the largest and longest international arts festival in the Americas- Cerventino, every year in October. Especially cool are the frequent free movies outside on the iconic university steps.
Don't forget about all the international artists that visit the Festival as well. The show that the group of dancers from New Zealand did a couple of years ago was incredible!
Love this video! Mexico is one of our favourite countries and we have often talked about living there one day. So awesome to hear your thoughts on great places to live. Hope you are keeping well! 😊
Eternal Expat When we visited Mexico City we just loved it so much so maybe there! But we also want to explore and visit the Guanajuato area and Merida for sure! Michael has also been to Oaxaca and really loved it. We just love Mexico. It’s such an amazing country. 😁

Great video. I live in Mérida an love it. Come this winter and you will enjoy weather. Centro is changing a lot due pandemic for The best. More only pedestrian streets, more trees.
I think more pedestrian roads in the centro would be so much better, it's tough to walk around there usually with all the foot traffic as well as the buses zooming past. I definitely love Merida and would love to visit during the cooler winter months to get a better idea of the climate.
@@laura-bronner im looking forward to watch your next Mérida video. I saw your first reactions of manzanillo\Chetumal and I congratulate you for being such honest. Also red The coments of People pissed off.. Well, People need to take a bad critique to improve, not to feel attacted
hello from Yucatan. I like to agree with you, Mexico City is a fantastic place. Having left it for a period of time, after returning for 2 weeks, I developed a wheeze, which to my surprise, I only noticed after re watching a video i posted here. The only thing I can say negative about CDMX is the pollution, and what it does to one's lungs, and the fact that it is in an earthquake zone (as it was built on a lakebed) .Putting these aside, it is a fantastic place! (X CDMX resident). Museums, restaurants, fantastic shops, neighborhoods, (Polanco, Condesa, Zone Esmeralda (in the mountains surrounding the city) ..great people etc etc etc! I could write much more but I would run out of space here ha!
I enjoy your videos very much. I saw one recently that I cannot find again. It was about Mexico City and the temperate climate and you named some smaller cities close to MC with the same kind of climate. I would love to have that info. Thank you
Playa del Carmen is not real Mexico ;) Too touristic... Im living there right now, it’s pretty, but the vibe is not the best, too hot the whole year, is good for a while, but it’s not Mexico..., Oaxaca, and that cities are much better, better vibes! 🌷
I mexican would never consider moving to TJ hahaha. You really have to check the top 10 listed in this video, they are far better than TJ, actually, I don't think TJ would make top 30 for any mexican (except for the food, TJ could be top 3 on food)
@@edgars8947 Just got back from Guanajuato and Mexico City. Still will choose Tijuana. Having the ability to fly anywhere in Mexico, or the world for that matter, and being able to walk across to SD beats any of these cities. Although I have to admit, history and culture are more abundant further in to Mexico's heartland. :) Viva Tijuana!
@@marineworldclassifieds9867 I'm glad you were able to visit those cities. Hopefully you have already gone to Puerto Nuevo to eat some lobster burritos or to Valle de Guadalupe to get some of the best wines in the world, there are also great restaurants in within that zone...

Small Town ,Large City.Near the Ocean or Inland ,or Colonial .The Weather ,I'm surprised San Miguel de Allende and Ajijic / lake Chapala were not on your list. But like you mentioned this is your opinion so I understand.
I love San Cristobal de las Casas. You can not only feel but live the history of the place. The climate is perfect. It's a jumping off pump to Central America. It's urban, but it still feels like a small town. I love the cobblestone streets and charming houses. Lots of great day trips you can take, including the Lagos de Montebello, Palenque, waterfalls. It's lush and green and relatively clean. Despite getting lots of tourists, it feels uniquely Mexican. If you like museums, it might not be your place, but if you like nature, it's wonderful.
I'm extra excited to visit Merida now! I can see why Mexico City is your favorite after spending a week there last year. Although I have to say that after about 5 days the air quality started to bother me, I was staying off of Reforma. Have other digital nomads or expats that you've talked to had trouble adjusting?
I love your reviews and agree with you on most of your choices. I especially like P.V. and spend summers there now - been going there since it was a small village, but it never lost it's charm esp. in the Romantic District where I stay. I also like Huatulco, but it's kind of small, but amazing beaches for sure. And Guanajuato was amazing and it's great esp. in the summer.
ONLY in Guanajuato I had a huge SUV and parking is difficult in Centro and the tunnels a bit intimidating until you get used to them, but I love having my car to travel in Mex.
READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE PLEASE I HAVE A DOUBT ABOUT YOU AMERICANS hello I had to use a translator to speak your complicated language. It is true that in the United States they do a lot of bulling in schools and that they are disobedient to their parents. Is your house on two floors?
@@mortissupercellbufeame2531 The schools do not provide discipline anymore (ancient history they used to do that). Parents are discouraged from any discipline and the state can take away the children for those that discipline. It might be encouraged to take away privileges. Excellent video - your feelings of Mexico City are exactly my own as well. I feel right at home when I am there. I just wish I could afford one of those condos in Chapultepec Uno.
I would like to live in Puerto Vallarta. Because of the beautiful beaches and the warm climate that the city has in general, as well as the gastronomy, also that there are different tourist spots near the city that can be reached easily
It's SO beautiful, I really love it there. I was hoping to get back there at some point this year, but I'm not sure how possible that will be. Something to look forward to in 2021!
Have you been to Xalapa? l don't know why it's not more well-known. It's kind of small, but similar to Guanajuato in size and energy. Unlike much of Mexico, though, it is so very green.
I live in Queretaro, I love it, I used to live in CDMX. It's way different, Queretaro is growing a lot lately been here for 5 years now, it's great, though CDMX is a giant city with waaay more activity, CDMX activity is like NY. You'll need a car to move around Queretaro, if you live in CDMX you will find many ways to travel, including metro, buses, bicycles, etc.
I see many positive comments about Meridas. Being a city on the Gulf coast how is it structured to handle tropical storms, considering they have a may continue to get worse?
My trying to recommend Nuevo Vallarta for my retired parents because they like the long Florida like beaches. Have you been to bucerias or smaller towns in Nuevo Vallarta ?
I have been in Bahía de Banderas (bay) like 30 times! I love it! let me know if you have any question about that zone and north of it (Bahía de Banderas municipality) (Litibú, Sayuita, San Pancho, Guayabitos, Chacala, lo de Marcos)
I just moved from Los Angeles to La Paz a couple weeks ago and I love it so far! I was glad to see it on the list!!! 😁👏🏽 You definitely gave me a few spots to go check out once I get settled tho! Merida looks amazing! 😍😭
Mexico City is fabulous, I agree. So many authors and artists who were not Mexicans spent a decade of their lives there and that ought to tell you something .
May I sugest my town Tampico, Tamaulipas. It's a small city at 6hrs from Monterrey. With the best beach after Cancún. Great food, lots of places yo visit and a save place ti visit.
Hi Laura , it was interesting to see that you liked Monterrey so much , you know the north of Mexico is almost always skipped by tourist because its less traditional than the center or south of the country. Did you find a lot of diferences between the north , center and south of Mexico? Also another thing is that Monterrey its either too hot or too cold, but there are days still that the weather is just perfect like it seems you enjoyed in the days that you were here. Hope too see you back here and when you come back i recommend you to go to Chipinque , its a park in the sierra madre that has a view over the city and its in the San Pedro municipality. I also recommend you to try a really famous food here called Discada , that is basically beef, and pork meat mixed with salsa and other good stuff. And its called a discada because its made on a disc.
I thought Monterrey was so beautiful! I haven't explored that region of Mexico enough, but I'd really love to get back to Monterrey soon and explore more. And Discada sounds delicious!! I noticed that the food was quite different, but otherwise, it didn't feel too different to other large Mexican cities that I've been to, but I only spent a short time there, so it's not really a great amount of time to allow me to compare them properly.
Thank you for your wonderful comments on Mexico and its marvelous cities! We plan to visit there soon and would love to visit Mexico city. Can you recommend a good B&B reasonably priced for a family of three. I am retired. Our daughter is 8 years old. My wife is from Peru but we live in the United States. Thank you. Have a marvelous day!
Zacatecas , chapala and San Miguel de Allende. The best places to live in my opinión.. Vallarta, cabo San Lucas and Cancun have the best airport connection to many countries...
In reference to the hate comments :Criticism and personal options should be respected, but us Mexicans are extremely patriotic and therefore sensible to criticism even if constructive, even if what others say about our country is true.
Thanks for the video..would have liked to hear what you mean by "hot"...OR what is "cheap"...hard to get a clear indication when things are so subjective
Merida should be a perfect city to Live, specially because of all the beautiful Beaches like Tulum, personally being a Beach lover, I could go to beach and explore the cenotes in a matter of minutes, not to mention de Riviera Maya, Cancun and the amazing pyramids of the Mayas. God Willing Merida will be my future home state.
Think San Cristobal is much nicer to live than Querétaro, Puebla or Guadalajara, but my point of view is from a Mexican, so For people from USA maybe Puebla is more like real Mexican culture...
Been coming to Mexico and living on and off for 16 years and ended up living full-time in Bucerias in the Riviera Nayarit just north of Puerto Vallarta.
I love La Paz too, I've lived in mexico city all my life, but I'm moving to Guanajuato to study university there. When I finish my studies I'll be looking forward to move to La Paz, Aguascalientes or San Luis Potosi, don't know why but every time I visit those cities I fall in love with them.
By the way if you love really fancy living, and you have over US $1MM to get an AMAZING home you can start looking at Santa Fe, Bosques de las Lomas , Pedregal de San Ángel, Lomas de Chapultepec and Polanco (which is more in the center, a lot of activity and convenience). I'm talkin about $ 10MM+ pesos Real Estate.
Laura, I have visited many places in Mexico since the 80's. I have been to Mexico City twice and I did have a good time. I enjoy Mexican soccer very much and my favorite team is Club America. I have seen them play Chivas from Guadalajara twice in el Estadio Azteca. I have also gone to Guadalajara and seen the same teams play there twice. Since I love the beaches of Jalisco and Nayarit. If I had a choice of a BIG city, I would live in Guadalajara. But Puerto Vallarta is still my town of choice! Thanks!
Going to La Paz at the end of August for my 50th Birthday with some girlfriends hopefully!! Can't wait it looks amazing! Do you have any recommendations? Love Puerto Vallarta and Bucerias as well 🙂 my wish list is Queretaro!

Do you have insight on areas like Chihuahua? I keep reading that there are huge snow-capped mountains and loads of nature out there (I'm big on mountains, hiking, and colder weather). But I also hear it's one of the top places to get shot for seeing something you weren't supposed to see, so...yeah. Haven't visited.
Definitely Queretaro--no better place for history, culture, travel, beauty, safety. I've been going to MX for the winter for the last 25 years and plan to be there longer in a few years. It's also close enough to travel to Ixtapa when you need a coastal break :)
If we were to visit Mexico City for a short time, maybe 1 to 2 weeks, what area should we look in for accommodations, and hotels or short-term rental (like airbnb)?
Excellent and very informative video. I like your list but I guess it's hard to select only 10 cities. I will definitely try to visit the cities that you mentioned.

I felt so safe, comfortable, it was super laid back with such a great family friendly vibe. I definitely will be returning to explore even more once I get down there! 🥰
I love both of those cities, so magical!
Easily THE BEST video I’ve seen on where to live in MX!! I am soon to be retiring, so def considering Mexico as an options. Just so many options, tough to nail it down.
I’m so glad you found it helpful!
Can’t wait to move there! Don’t know where yet but I probably start in Mexico City or queretaro. I have been in LA for too long. Great video ! Cheers
Oops, you forgot my home city, Aguascalientes. Lovely, safe, clean, prospering and yet mellow...and few, if any, tourists! Yet I hope the word doesn’t get out on how perfect Aguascalientes is.
Climate and cost of living in each would be a nice addition. Thank you for the information.
Cheers.

La Paz and Merida looking good for my retirement! Great video, cant wait to see more. Can you touch up on cable/satellite tv as well as internet.
Both are such lovely places! Glad you enjoyed the video! Internet and cable are both good quality and rapid (and affordable) in both of those places!
I haven't been to Mexico for years, but your video has got me excited about going back!
I love the food mentions, as well as your insights!
Guanajuato is the Italian hill town of Mexico. It’s just gorgeous. Mexico City is so vibrant and beautiful.
So cool to see La Paz in number 5!! I live in San Quintin a bit further north, on the Pacific side:
Merida ayyyyyeee🥳
Love this video! Mexico is one of our favourite countries and we have often talked about living there one day. So awesome to hear your thoughts on great places to live. Hope you are keeping well! 😊
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video! Where do you guys think you'd live if you came down here?
Eternal Expat When we visited Mexico City we just loved it so much so maybe there! But we also want to explore and visit the Guanajuato area and Merida for sure! Michael has also been to Oaxaca and really loved it. We just love Mexico. It’s such an amazing country. 😁
Thankyou so much for sharing your info, well covered points and I have 5 in common, as Im not familiar with all of Mexico. Very informative and really need to check out a few more of your recommedations. I am so looking forward to my next trip to Mexico as I want to spend a few months this visit. Enjoy your day, and happy SUNSHINE to you also. Chat soon.
I’m there with you on puerto Vallarta!! I love love love it!
We enjoyed our time in Puerto Vallarta, too.
Amazing summary of Mexico, thank you for sharing!!!!

What about
Morelia Michoacan
San Luis potosi
Taxco
Campeche
León Gto
Etc etc etc
All places that I still need to visit!
hello from Yucatan.
Thank you
I live in Playa del Carmen and it's amazing. The best expat community I've lived in so far. Also been an expat for 10years all over the world.
I've heard really great things about the community in Playa!
Playa del Carmen is not real Mexico ;) Too touristic... Im living there right now, it’s pretty, but the vibe is not the best, too hot the whole year, is good for a while, but it’s not Mexico..., Oaxaca, and that cities are much better, better vibes! 🌷
Thanks for this. Currently living in playas de Tijuana and I can't wait to check out these places. Viva Mexico!
@@edgars8947been to better mariscos places since. Puerto Peñasco, San Felipe, and we continue to enjoy and explore Mexico!
I’ve been feeling called to go to Mexico City. Thanks for the video. Some of those places sound great.
Loved the video! Subscribed. Which cities would you recommend for best nightlife that aren’t Mty or cdmx?
- single dude in his late 20s
good recomendation, but what about Morelia, I dont know may cities recomended but I fall in love of Morelia MIchoacan
I bus in to CDMX often, alone. SOON I will come with 3 Queretanos who have NEVER been there!
I need a beach around me for both my dog and myself. Great choices!
Mexico is full of beautiful places to live .It really just comes down on what you are looking for.
As a Mexican, I can only say ... Bienvenidos a México !!! (Welcome to Mexico !!!)
Gracias Claudio!
Yes! the tunnels are a bit confusing, but such a beautiful town!
READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE PLEASE I HAVE A DOUBT ABOUT YOU AMERICANS
hello I had to use a translator to speak your complicated language.
Apparently, there's some bullying that still takes place in schools, because there's no attempt to monitor or punish children for anything at all. Yes, our house is two stories. It is difficult to raise children in the United States.
I WONDER AFTER WATCHING THIS ...HOW MANY PEOPLE WUOLD LIKE TO GO TO LIVE IN MEXICO...

The ones at University tower are not that expensive, starting at USD $250k
I would like to live in Puerto Vallarta.
Because of the beautiful beaches and the warm climate that the city has in general, as well as the gastronomy, also that there are different tourist spots near the city that can be reached easily
Thanks for the video ! . Its definitely nice to hear your personal ratings on each of them and why. Super useful things to consider forsure.
I'm so glad you included La Paz! It is gorgeous 💗 I love the beaches and the vibe.

Finding out your Number 1, so surprized me! Makes it worth watching the whole vid!! THANKS!!
Y que esta haciendo el estado con el transporte público para que esté de acuerdo a las necesidades de sus habitantes?
Your list is strange, but you have your reasons, have particular reasons for wanting a place, it is beautiful
I haven't had a chance to get over that way, but I've heard it's beautiful!
I agree that Nuevo Vallarta would be great for retirement.

Moved From LA To Monterrey 3 Years Ago And I Fucking Hate It
@@coolkapri then go elsewhere or back LA.
Great video. Subbed. I love in Mexico too. It's great
I agree the west coast is better than the east coast...but both beautiful
The state of Oaxaca is the ultimate for me! I hope to expat there some day!
Zacatecas , chapala and San Miguel de Allende. The best places to live in my opinión.. Vallarta, cabo San Lucas and Cancun have the best airport connection to many countries...
I've been to Chapala ♥️
Why not Riviera Maya? What are the deal-breakers for you? Please advise and thanks.

I have been to San Cristobal. It's nice, a great base to explore Chiapas, but it's not somewhere that I would like to live.
I loved Bucerias! You’re so lucky :)

Theres an accent in the 1st a in árabe, just thought to mention it bc you pronounced it with an accent on the 2nd vowel and it sounded a little funny.
I really like La PAz. Ill be moving to Playe Del Carmen though, chose that over Merida for the next 4 months.
By the way if you love really fancy living, and you have over US $1MM to get an AMAZING home you can start looking at Santa Fe, Bosques de las Lomas
, Pedregal de San Ángel, Lomas de Chapultepec and Polanco (which is more in the center, a lot of activity and convenience).
Thanks!

Thanks Laura for this wonderful selection.
