It may come as a shock to some people moving directly to libre... no spying and all.
I suggest them to use to google docs before settling on libreOffice. It would turn the traumatic transition into somewhat happy an ending.

For FREE go with LibreOffice in my opinion. But if you must have Microsoft Office and its got to be FREE then you only have Microsoft Office 2010, unless you use the FREE online version.

A 15-year-old Office software, will no longer be targeted for "security vulnerabilities / exploits ", but a modern LibreOffice is the only choice between the two. The problem is office starter edition. If it was 2010 pro, or even home office edition, then that would be the better choice, imo.

I wouldn’t use a product that has reached end of life. Paying a subscription for Office is also mental. I recommend going with the one off payment version of Office.

Hi Brian, I have been using a copy of Microsoft word 2003 which is still working perfectly on windows 10 the newer versions have so much extra stuff that she never uses keep up the great videos

Thanks for the info. I figure if I'm are only getting 15 year old Word and Excel you might as well get up to date Libre Office which will run on my Windows machine as well as my Linux systems.. And no ads 😄

You can all laugh but I'm still using MS Office XP from 2001. It runs fine in Windows 10. I used to work in finance and was a heavy Excel user until I transferred most of systems into MS Access / VBA. I am retired now but still use Access and Excel on a daily basis. That said I am gradually rewriting my database applications in Python, in anticipation of the day (probably not too far away) when my 24 year old MS Office starts to misbehave.
