I was always under the impression that the f50 was not that great.
The F50 is simply a masterpiece. I love it! One of my most favorite Ferraris of all-time. What I wouldn't give to get to drive one, even on the passenger seat.

The engine!!!
Only Ferrari road car that is rear-mid engined V12 AND 6-speed, which is very clearly the best formula for a driver's car. The removable top, the sound, etc are all just theater on top of the already perfect mechanicals. The F40 doesn't even come close to this car aside from looks and sheer speed.
@@dabeatboxer83 nope the F50 was two seconds faster in Fiorano testings. The F40 being faster is only a myth...

Probably because it's slower than the F40
Because it followed the F40, which was, and is, God. It wasn't better, it was just different. 20 years later I think it is somewhat better regarded and it's reputation has improved. When every supercar today has crap loads of electronics and gimmicks the F50 seems much more raw and purer today than it did when it itself was modern in the mid nineties. Plus it's not like you're buying one for much less than $2m either, so it can't be that hated today.....

My favorite Ferrari. I don't like the F40 because it has a turbo engine. A Ferrari should have a howling, naturally aspirated engine. The Enzo is plain ugly, and technically not as close to a Formula 1 car than the F50. In the F50, engine and gearbox are integral parts of the chassis. And they are bolted directly to the carbon monocoque passenger compartment.
Out of these three, i'd take the F50 anyday!
What are you're thoughts on the Ferrari testarossa and the 512TR
Testarossa and 512TR are nowhere near as hardcore as the F40/F50

@@DolleHengst have you ever been in a TR? I personally don't think they are any more comfortable than the F50. Funny enough, despite being very different cars, the F50 is often closely compared to the Testarossa in ride quality, maintenance, etc..
That sound alone makes the car worth buying. Awesome.

You are wrong. It is unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust. Also unburnt fuel does not give off blue smoke. The only thing that does is burning oil, and yes that is bad. There is unburnt fuel in the exhaust not because they are running rich or "fat" but because of the aggressive camshaft profile most supercars and race cars use. The exhaust valves stay open longer and overlap with the intake valves causing a scavenging effect. it essentially pulls more air and fuel into the cylinders.

Very cool! Our "old" parents used to do this with their cars, so this is nothing new. Dad told me they installed spark plugs near the end of the exhaust and had a switch somehow wired to the inside of the car, like a light switch and would flip it to shoot flames. Much cooler with the high end cars though!

The Ferrari F40 and F50 were the only recent TRUE Ferrari's. Extremely light, extremely aerodynamic, and as fast as cars that have 200+ more hp than it, coupled with AMAZING handling for even todays' standards.
@coleofishing its something called back pressure. it happens when the exhaust is tuned to suck exhaust out of the engine instead of the engine pushing it out. It makes the engine perform better. It is sucking a little bit of unburned gas out of the engine, thats why there are flames. If it was a honda spitting flames, something is wrong, but a supercar it means it is a greatest whip

You know a car is a car when you played with it when you were a kid, grew up and remember it seeing in person.
@kickniko This is the result of taking your foot off the throttle, the ignition of the engine is limmited resulting in unburned fuel getting in the exhaust, if this didn't happen the engine wouldn't rev down fast enough.
With a turbocharged engine this is sometimes even done on purpose with an antilag system, that is to maintain turbo pressure.
The the unburned fuel is used to cool the engine, but ignites in the exhaust because of the high temperatures there.
That is the sound of the year It’s soo cool.
Even when this car is old, its still amazing to watch.
Old? A Ferrari Dino or a Lamborghini Miura could be "old" but never a F50.

@sabrocks881 That almost makes no since. When you shift gears with a manual transmission, you also let off the gas pedal. When you let off the gas pedal you open the blow off valves and close the throttle body. So pretty much you are venting boost to the atmosphere. The turbos are already spinning fast. They take time to slow down, because of the bearings. Re-spool from a shift will be instant. Now, if you were sitting on the starting line of a drag strip, ALS or a two step would be used.

Im not sure that the F50 has a mifiring system. And if the audio is from this car, it clearly does not have one. The flame can be obtained with a high flow cat (and sometimes even this isnt required), as extra unspent fuel is ignited in the exhuast stream on decel or in between shifts. The exhuast has to be hot enough for this to happen.
That's gotta be my favorite all time european car. Love the damn F50. Gorgeous.

@alec0417 um no, the exhaust is dumping unused fuel into it. Thats the flame. If you would see it when track cars racing down shift mostly
I love how on old Supercars half the fuel goes into the engine and the rest ends up going into the exhaust just for the show.

Always loved this car and its still my favorite.
yes i already said that the Enzo was the successor to the F50, it topped out higher than the GTO at 218mph (redline limited, the rev limiter kicked in but it was still pulling hard), the GTO topped out around 216. the GTO was faster around Fiorano test track though because of newer tire technologies and being a newer car, it also has a much more advanced and faster dual clutch compared with the Enzo's now dated and violent single clutch

Obviously played Outrun in the arcades as a kid and said "One day I won't need quarters".
They only come with the wings, it serves a purpose and the side body panels continue naturaly with the wing. You would need to do body work to make the read body panels flow properly with the lines of the car, and it's carbon fiber.
this, ladies and gentleman, is the car i want.
Personally, if I was asked to choose 1 Ferrari, this would be it.

I never knew that , all i knew was the shoot flames AKA back firing is due to excess fuel or unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust .
