I feel like this video reminds me of everything I love about hiking in west Washington! The lush forests, the beautiful bird song, and the quiet trails that still exist. You don't quite get that in Colorado where I'm at now. There are people crawling everywhere and really only Jays to listen to. One of my favorite parts of hiking is listening to the song birds! I could hear the Swainsons Thrush (such a beautiful song), Chickadee, and what probably was a Stellar Jay most prominantly in your video. I also heard another bird at 5:05 with a two note song that goes up down. Do you know the name of that bird? I remember you told me when we climbed Dirty Face near Lake Wenatchee but I can't remember what you said the name was.

That two-note bird song is the Olive-sided Flycatcher. They have a very distinct call, but are rarely seen. They hang out high in the tops of the trees. This was a wonderful, easy hike to get us started on the new year of hiking. Usually, there is snow, but this has been a very low snow year so many trails are open that typically would be inaccessible in winter.
