    The rules about not wearing blue pants in NC on Wednesday and about not being able to wear high heels in the town of Carmel come from a silly tongue-in-cheek article from WWE themselves, written on their own website, called "Five WWE rules you didn’t know existed" from 2012. At the bottom of the article it says "NOTE: The preceding rules may or may not be totally legitimate." And was written by two writers who are known for writing silly articles that aren't necessarily factual or "storyline canon". So... Men's Health didn't do a great job of actually checking their sources.

      @jenniferkovalick2959 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      @@VixenBlue23 see the heels law doesn't seem that weird to me. Heels are actually banned in Greece. It's because of all the ancient buildings like the Parthenon, and heels damage the structures. I just figured it was along those lines, like maybe they had a lot of historical places or something. Although I watched casually as a kid during the Hogan and Macho Man era, I didn't really get into wrestling until the late 90s because of the N64 wrestling games. I kind of dwindled off of wrestling after Eddie Guerrero died and only came in here and there to see how it was going. CM Punk peaked my interest a little around the pipe bomb but they also had the muppets and crap on the show and I was wondering what the hell happened. This new era with HHH in charge looks promising but I'm still watching clips only and not the whole shows anymore.

    In Carmel there is a city ordinance written in 1920 that said women can not wear high heels over 2 inches within the city limits without a permit. The thought was to protect the town from lawsuits. But Carmel is so small there would never be a WWE event there. The closest place a WWE event would be would be Santa Clara, for a PLE, or San Jose or San Francisco.
    Carmel used to have, and still has some weird city ordinances on the books. You used to not be able to eat ice cream on the side walk, but when Clint Eastwood was elected mayor that was overturned. Most cities still have strange city or county laws on the books, most are from 1970 and earlier. Some towns it's actually illegal to swear, one town says you are not allowed to walk an elephant down the street, or you can not be outside if deemed ugly, or you are not allowed to install two bathtubs in a house.

    About chokeholds: I practice Jiu Jitsu and even if it sounds false, chokes are one of the safest techniques you can use. The thing about chokes is, that you do not strangle the person (cut off airflow) but you press onto the artery going to the brain, means you effectively cut the bloodstream towards the brain, that's why people fall unconscious relatively fast. Only thing which can go wrong is if you hold a choke for too long, that way you can permanently damage the brain, but that only applies if you hold it for 10+ seconds after a person has gone unconscious.
    I guess it is technically true that some of the chokes used in Wrestling wouldnt work in real life, but they are perceived as chokes and they are all over the place. I don't know why Men's Health thought they wouldnt be used.

But back in the territorial day cross promotions were commonplace. Bob Backlund wrestled both Harley Race & Rick Flair(NWA) and Nick Bockwinkle(AWA). Superstar Billy Graham wrestled Harley Race. Dusty Rhodes would wrestle in NY a lot. Also, I don't think the WWE thinks of TNA nor AEW as actual competition so there's probably that.

    Just found your channel, dude you’re awesome. I’m 42 so grew up with all the different brands and names. My son who’s 23 now had all off the action figures. We hated you on the tv and to listen to you is great. You were a great heel, and we had a great time watching. Keep up the videos love ya and just thank you.

    Pretty sure the "no blading" and "stop after bleeding" rules is in reference to the company now, especially since 2008 when they went PG and didn't do intentional blood any more.

    • @Dartingleopard
      @Dartingleopard 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      They occasionally have intentional blood but it is done hardway, like when Brock Lesnar elbowed Randy Orton and busted him open. That was planned.

      I remember one of the WWECW match between Christian and Shelton Benjamin in a ladder match I believe. One of the guys started bleeding and they stopped the whole match. Just imagine, the hardcore ECW doesn't even allow you to bleed and wrestle. So fucking pathetic.

    Maven, my man! Thank you for continuing to provide so much great info. It was your channel that brought me back into watching wrestling (although im only rewatching the Attitude Era). Although the one about Vince sneezing is actually true! Jim Cornette and JR have talked about it several times on each of their podcasts. It was just a horrible pet peeve of Vince's and he'd get incredibly mad if people sneezed in front of him. They both tell stories about it happening in the Creative meetings. 😂

    The cursing/swearing one is interesting considering now that The Rock is back he's been cursing a bit on TV, and during yesterday's Wrestlemania promo he was dropping f-bombs left and right, even backstage. It's not quite live TV, but it seems like Chairman Rock is trying to bring the edge back to the shows.

    Stumbled across this channel in my recommended videos. Now I've been power-watching since yesterday! Maven is a really good host. Very easy to listen to and every video is both interesting and well edited. And importantly, the videos don't outstay their welcome. Some people on TH-cam go on and on and their videos drag. Maven is to the point, and any segues are always interesting and worth their time in the video.
    Superb job maven. Keep up the good work.

    I'm always looking forward to Maven's videos. What's funny is that I'm not even into wrestling since the late 90's, and I only remember Maven from some episodes of Tough Enough, I don't think I ever found out he had won at that time. But the videos are fun to watch and offer so much insight on what goes on behind the scenes.

    This is my favorite wrestling channel on TH-cam, even moreso than the official channels of the wrestling companies. It has a lot to do with the nostalgia, but it's also because it's well produced. It has the feel of a conversation with an old friend you are catching up with and talking about wrestling.

    No closed fist punching is an actual rule that people have been disqualified for, but in the few instances of this it's always part of an angle where a heel authority figure is dusting off an obscure rule that no one ever enforces anymore.

      Closed-Fisted Punches Now Legal In WWE
      SEPTEMBER 4, 2008
      BY BILL BEHRENS
      Without much fanfare, if any, closed fist punches became legal in WWE about a month or so ago. Refs now only warn wrestlers and execute a 5 count when a wrestler is punching in the corner or in a mount position on the ground.
      This was a good idea and fix. Ron Garvin used a punch (Hands of Stone) as a finish as did Ox Baker & Stan Stasiak (Heart Punch), back in the day. With the growth and popularity of MMA, allowing punches in wrestling just makes sense.
      Independent promotions like Jerry Palmer’s NWA Anarchy in Cornelia, GA have adopted this rule change too.

    With the whole dress code thing, If I was ever a wrestler, I'd just show up in whatever I wanted to and call it business casual. If anyone asks, I'd be like, "My business is to get in that ring and casually kick some ass".
