At this point, it does so many things quickly and efficiently that I've begun using it almost exclusively! It's deceptively simple, so sometimes a good video saying "yes, it really IS that easy" is really welcome. Brief, comprehensive videos like these are rare, and you're really proving an amazing resource with you channel. I look forward to seeing more from you. Keep up the great work!
Stuff by J.K. Thank you so much for the kind words! Meshmixer has come a long way - and has now replaced functions that previously needed software worth 1000's of dollars for us. If they brought out a 'meshmixer pro' for even a few hundred bucks I still think it would be a steal. :)
+Maker's Muse As someone who was fortunate enough to have access to the ridiculously expensive Magics, which was really good at making things watertight and not much else, I'm floored that Meshmixer can do just as well these days, if not better, and doesn't cost a dime!
Jake Kapusta That's what we use in the Sydney studio - it still has the edge on Meshmixer "just" in terms of how good it can wrap terrible files (aka architectural models) but the price... oh the price!
If Autodesk improves auto support generator, Meshmixer will be ultimate 3d printing software for sure. Currently we use it mostly for hollowing and overall quality check and it works great. Btw great video!
Wow I just figured out how to use mesh mixer's "plane cut" using the file! Thanks a ton for creating the video and making it SUPER easy to figure out. Oh and the Aussie accent is great too!
a common problem with smoothing meshs in any program is the lack of tessellation , some programs like zbrush and others will allow you to sub-divide without smoothing , then you smooth , this will preserve your edge fidelity and smooth
very helpful, thank you! meshmixer, and others, are pretty hardware hungry, for my old laptop it takes a long time to remesh anything with a decent triangle count.
i just got into 3d printing and i am learning about all the different software out there. From what i understand you need a CAD software (like MeshMixer) to make a object and then a slicer to print it. I know Angus loves meshmixer but what about fusion360? they are both made by Autodesk. are they different? Honestly i started to learn with FreeCad and its pretty easy to use.

Can you help me out or point me to a video that can help me with such?
I love this thickening feature as discussed in your video - amping up the minimum thickness to the desired setting. Does the current 2015 version have this? If so it must be the Thickness tool in the Analysis Menu however I am not clear how to use this. Do you know?

Hello Angus! Since you recorded this video, did Autodesk remove the feature where you can make density adjustments by clicking on the "Print" icon? When I use it, the only option it gives me, is to open my printers software! (FlashForge Finder) I'm hoping I missed something? Love your video!

Hi Bellozify, cheers! It is possible, but not very easy. It involves making a copy of the object you want to fill with structure, and using 'make pattern' to turn one into a swiss-cheese like structure, and then hollow the other. You need to then combine the two files into one with a boolean union which is where meshmixer usually crashes for me - but will see If I can get a workflow that is reliable sorted for a video.
Thank you Angus for suggesting Meshmixer to fix thin walled models. I'll give it a try. I remix other's models usually into banks but find their nice designs too thin for 3d printing. I hpe this will get the task done. Check out some off my remixes at Thingiverse under Dadmezz.
the Tree like supports are amazing, I been asking simplify3d to add this option, it works with PLA even better I wish TH-cam allow you to comment with pictures but I could show you some interesting designs that tree like support and normal support on same design differs . Try them I would like to hear your input
I am using Meshmixer for my Fallout-Models too. Do you have a good solution how to add connectors / alignment-pins? It's really to add the 'male' part of the connector - just adding a cylinder as the pin. But is there a good way to add the 'female' part - like 'punching' a circular hole in the model? When using a cylinder for the 'hole' and the boolean union to join parts I end up having flipped faces (of course, now the inner side of the cylinder should be the outer).
+Maximilian Nicolas Nitschke You can do it using the boolean difference instead of union, but you need to give meshmixer enough triangles to work with or it'll cause bad geometry! I use remesh in those areas to greatly increase the triangle count, like in this vid - th-cam.com/video/L7AF0hNTl8A/w-d-xo.html Just choose Difference, instead of Union :)

Simplify3D can't differentiate between the support and part if it's all in the same file - but it should still work fine! Just don't turn additional supports on within meshmixer.

Yep, this feature sadly no longer exists... I'm not sure what is a good replacement, but you can do XY compensation in slicer, but it will thicken everything by the chosen amount.
hi I'm a noobie to 3d started trying to understand blender through you tube but struggled until I found tinkercad after only a few hours I was improving. I'm not flashy I just want to make some of my ideas come to life and I'm getting better however my problem now is now I've created them on tinkercad I don't know what to do to make them watertight ready for printing. can you help me? kind regards old man still trying
+paul goodier Hi there, tinkercad will produce 3D Printable models straight from the software, you don't need to do any repairs! Just keep in mind that the part needs to be physically produced so make sure features aren't too thin, small or floating in space. 1.5mm is a good minimum size.

yeah, I can't seem to find where to do the thicken option like he dose in this video. When I go to 'print' now it want's to run some other software.

Different uses! Meshmixer is mainly for mesh manipulation and S3D is for slicing :)

Good information, but you have a really annoying habit of keep spinning the model unnecessarily as you're talking. It makes me dizzy!
