    Thanks for making this great lesson. If you haven't, check out the JD WIlkes version.

      That JD Wiles version is great! I hadn't heard it before. I just scheduled a live session for Red Rocking Chair for this coming Sunday where we can get into the song a bit deeper if you're interested! details at banjoskills.com/live

    Thanks for the great intro to two finger playing! Just to be sure, are you playing all the melody notes with the thumb except the ones on the first string which are with the finger?

      Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately the tab cut off my right hand a bit in the video! But yes you’re exactly right. My index finger plays the first string (and sometimes the 2nd when I’m hitting both in that first part). The thumb plays the other 4 strings.

    Just wondering what strings and gauge you think best for clawhammer. Just started your introductary course and really enjoying it any help much appreciated

      Hey I'm glad you're enjoying the intro course! As for strings, I usually use d'addario lights. But, to be honest, sometimes I just grab whatever my local shop has in stock that day. I think lights will be a little easier on your fingers if you're starting out.

    Great channel. You’re growing fast! Just curious, is that a Vega banjo?

      Thanks so much! I watched your video on your Vega Senator banjo a few days ago. So nice! I'm playing a Vega Vintage Star but I was very close to buying the Senator before I chose this one.

      @@BanjoSkills oh nice! Thanks for watching! I lm not much of a TH-camr yet, but I’m slowly growing in views which is kind of cool. I recognized the star on the headstock! The Vintage star looks really nice, mine didn’t come with a scoop or railroad spikes. I love it though, it’s great for oldtime or bluegrass.

      @@KenneyCmusic Of course! looking forward to checking out more of your videos in the future. Cool to see you play so many different instruments!
      The reason I went with the vintage star was the tone ring - this thing is loud! Makes the videos a little more difficult because it overwhelms my microphone 😀

    Hey I enjoy the lesson, but i think your tabs are wrong in a couple spots. I downloaded the tab from your website, and its the same. Maybe its an error on my part, but could you check the tab. Im playing it the way its written, but it doesnt sound right.

      Hey thanks so much for letting me know! I'll take a look at this ASAP and comment back here if there's a new version.

    I thought Dock Boggs played his own three finger style.

    • @BanjoSkills
      @BanjoSkills  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's true! I misspoke in the video - and I'm actually playing a version pretty close to his but in a 2-finger style because I think it's a bit easier to play. Thank you for pointing that out!

    • @derrickdubeau
      @derrickdubeau ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BanjoSkills I find Docs three finger style quite liberating and leads to a more expressive style of playing that you can use to make up your own style. At least that is what I've been able to do. There is a guy on TH-cam that teaches doc Boggs style perfectly.

      Noted! This was one of my earlier videos, still working out things like camera angles!
