That Jewel Tool (?) looks pretty kludgy to use. You can probably get better results faster and easier with a flex shaft or Dremel with sandpaper roll attachment. Also, you need to work harden the ear wire or it’ll bend the first time you try to put the earring on.
Bending and rolling down that side of the copper creates a small hole/loop. The end of the ear wire is inserted into that small loop to keep it secure. Just make sure the wire is not too long that it can't be flexed and inserted into the loop, or too short that it slips out of the loop. Hope that helps!
