Build a new railway in Kenya, a Chinese engineer shares his story

- In August 2009, Kenya Railways (KR) decided that China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) would construct the Mombasa - Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway financed by the Export-Import Bank of China. The design speed for passenger trains is 120km/h while for freight trains 80km/h. Standards for Chinese Grade I Railway would apply in the construction and design of the railway. As the first one of Kenya in the last 100 years, it wouldreduce the travel time between Mombasa and Nairobi from 10 hours or so to about 4 hours. Moreover, the railway also serves as the first section of the Northern Corridor in East Africa, through which the imports and exports of such countries as Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo-Brazzaville and South Sudan would be transported.

This is truly impressive! The governments of The United States and England sell weapons and start wars in the African countries. The banks trap African governments into loans with huge interest rates.
But the Chinese are building this railroad, they built a port, the have built dozens of schools. The Chinese work as helpers and teachers with the Kenyans.

I feel a bit confused, I remember when I was young around 80s to 90s what I see on TV, news or magazine about Africa is children with big head naked running on the dirt tracks, I heard that is because of mulnutrition,that was done by Western photographers, heard they win many awards because of that, billions of fund and aid was founded by the west to help the Africans, but seems like there is no progress, just wonder where those billions aid gone? Are those money just goes to the accounts of africa then deducted the commission then swims backed? but now we got TH-cam, with that I saw roads fast trains, houses, nice building, factories, power plants, telecommunications, even the Internet speed is faster than my country, heard that it was from Chinese investment aid . Kinda strange. Why such a huge different? One things more funny is acordding to the western media, China send millions to Africa to colonise Africa, from what I know, Africa people body size and strength are one of the strongest on earth, just wonder if Chinese people go there is there any chance to win? One millions against billions?? And also confuse China sell cheap stuff there like household, phones that normally lifespan around 3 to 5 years but the price compare to western product is like eh..........sorry for being sarcastic I just can't help myself when seeing those accusations with no facts.

At 1:29 : "On-site accidents are common place when laying tracks and erecting beams. When they happen, they are almost always severe and often fatal". That doesn't sound good.
it should be "the chance for accidents is much higher on-site than the other places. I prefer on-site monitoring for this critical task...."

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this wasn't the first major infrastructure project in the country since the British left... It has to be asked, but why can't African states build stuff on a grand scale like this, without foreigners having to do it for them... They can't really blame! The white man" because plenty of former colonies around the world are booming since independence from the European empires... Malaysia, Singapore, India, the United States etc.

So far this week we have heard about 2 Aircraft emergencies in America both of them as a result of engine failures, Due to the lack of proper maintenance!!
One of them an engine exploded and a fragment smashed a window which resulted in woman almost being sucked out of the Aircraft, it was only the swift action of passengers pulling her back in!
Unfortunately the woman Died of her injuries.

Raymond Zhao aha I was beginning to wonder the same thing I could possibly be 🙂. Yeah I've read a bit about the trades between china in Africa. China have come a long way and will to continue to go a long way because of their honor, hard work ethic, and intelligence. The west just can't play nice always have to impose instead trying to get along, they will make doing business in the future hard for their citizens if they keep with that same mentality.
