Vivienne is one of the best characters but genuinely gets a poor wrap because people are really surface and superficial with her. She’s complex and insanely interesting.
Read up on her actions in the wiki, she is a self centered narcissist who thinks she knows better. She is wise and has her moments but that's about it.

If you need to do that to form your opinion perhaps you shouldn’t be explaining to other people how they should be forming theirs. Just a thought. Mannnn I love this. I know what we see with Viv and Dorian in Inquisition could just be generic insulting, but... I dunno, they do compliment each other, Viv defends Dorian from her acquaintance without any gain, and we already know Dorian enjoys a good roast with Sera and maybe this isn't any different. Plus Viv's already used to wearing a (metaphorical/literal) mask, so maybe behind closed doors they're warmer? I like to imagine they're legitimate friends. Not like either of them aren't used to befriending people they politically disagree with, and at the core they have similar wants and desires
I think there's respect, and some level of care - because Vivienne does give a shit, even though I often disagree with how she views the world - but friendship? Hmm, I'm not sure. Dorian even can say to an Inquisitor, that they may be the only true friend he really has.
@@pativi6643 That's very fair, it might just be rose-tinted and wishful thinking on my part. However, I feel like Dorian defines friendship differently than most people, considering he seems to be pretty close to other companions like Sera and Bull, and he has people like Maevaris back home. Either these relationships aren't that deep (which... would be kind of sad, honestly), or Dorian just doesn't feel confident calling them friendships. Maybe he's used to relationships being contractual and you're one of the first/only people to prove that you're willing to help him without asking for anything in return, and that's why he calls you a true friend. But yeah, either way, Dorian probably wouldn't think of Vivienne as a _friend_ per se, and Vivienne probably wouldn't think of him as one either. They're allies. Allies who watch each others' back. Who maybe do more to help each other out in little ways than necessary. Granted, I haven't played in a few years. Take this interpretation with a grain of salt lol
I think the way Vivienne kind of interacts with the whole party is like a doting mother. But unlike Wynne who is there to be a voice of reason she is a harsh critic and its hard for her to be soft, playing the game and living in fear for so long often makes it hard for her to try and express affection. Which is probably why its sad that more lines of her softer side are only in DLC which gives a lot of people the impression that she is just Madame De Fer and not just Viv.
This is surprisingly insightful of Vivienne, who otherwise can be pretty narrow minded with her ideas of control and loyalty to the organisation of a Circle of Magi. Playing Veilguard, I found myself thinking exactly what she says here about Elvhen civilisation.

Thats one thing about viviene that makes me actually not hate her OI'm not fond of her And I disagree on most of that she believes, But I can see some sense in it, I can undertand WHY she sees the world like this. And i Can see clearly, from dialogues like this, and others, that she gennuinelly care for the wellness of other people aind society in a whole, In her way. It's diferent from solas, that is drown in hippocrisy, and sera who only cares about the things that she wants to care. For me, she is way better than both of them

Returning to this video after Veilguard. Well it would take time before Archon Dorian can enact real changes.
