in my opinion, Gemma chan has the best sound and accent in English. I can literally listen to her speak all day. thank you so much for doing this video.
I literally have been searching videos for learning Gemma Chan's accent, 'cause I really, REALLY LOVE her accent, and finally I found this. Thank you! Great video!
Gemma will be playing the superhero Sersi in Eternals 2021 and Marvel Studios Head Kevin Feige confirmed they have big plans for her character in future movies and I couldnt be more proud. Been obssessing with Gemma since Humans. She deserves that Marvel Big spotlight. Her accent and her style is the true definition of elegant and expensive.
I'm fascinated how Gemma Chan speaks English. Clear and polished. She would be a perfect narrator for films like "Blue Planet" or National Geographics. I can listen to her all day talk about science.
This is by far my fave accent. Wish I could stick to it as a learner. The more i dig into the accent area the more I get lost cause GOSH there are so many features to remember while speaking
Yes it can get quite complicated, but it's still really valuable to learn the different pronunciation features of each accent because it'll help you understand other people's accents better.
I loved her accent. She does speak fast but her pronunciation is rather clear and understandable. Could you make a video about the ELSA app for pronunciation practising? It is oriented to American accent but I would like to hear your opinion about it.
What a great video! Thanks a lot! I love Gemma. She's so classy and smart. I wish I was more like her. Your comments about her accent and Modern RP are veeeery useful!
When i think about british accent, this is what reminds me of. Maybe i was just used to listen to this kind of accent. I'm glad that now english has evolved in a more informal language even the RP english. The sad part is that english teachers from other countries rarely can imitate any of the accents that you showed off in your channel
I'm not actually a big fan of British accent... I rather American accent... But I really like her accent... It's so unique😍... And I like your channel too... Keep it up💪💚
One of the accents that fascinates me is Charlie Hunnam's, because he was born in England, but he moved to the US for his acting career. When he did King Arthur he had to take British English Pronunciation classes because he had changed his accent so much. I remember how mixed his accent was in interviews when he was promoting SOA (pronouncing garage US /gəˈrɑʒ/) and now he's got a stronger British accent (but I'd say much more RP than Geordie)... For me this just goes to show that even native speakers accent aren't the same during their lifetime ❤️❤️❤️.
Great shout Cristina! His accent has always baffled me ever since I saw him in Green Street (one of the worst Cockney accents of all-time). I certainly add him to the list : )
Hi, Tom. Can you also feature Henry Golding's accent? Ever since I watched Crazy Rich Asian, he became my ultimate crush and watched every single movies of his, as well as his interview clips in TH-cam. So I would love it if you would feature his brilliant accent. Thanks in advance and lots of love. - Catherine from the Philippines ❤
I really enjoy your videos! Emma's accent is one of my favorites by far. English it's not my main language but somehow I'm able to understand everything she says, it's simply beautiful. Do one of Niall Horan please!
Hello Tom :) Thanks for the video. As an English lover, I really love your accent videos ;) Well, I definitely like Gemma Chan's accent. It is the one I try to speak with, modern received pronunciation. I don't usually drop the 't' sound, but I have the other features of the accent. For example, schwa sound, the way of pronouncing '''TH'' 'H' etc. I am looking forward to watching the next video :) Have a nice week mate :)
Hi,Tom! I'd like to thank you for all the amazing content you create to help us, English learners, understand this beautiful language even more. Your videos about British accents are literally the best on TH-cam. I'm a firm believer that you open an absolutely incredible side of phonetics and pronunciation for many students. As a suggestion for one of the coming videos, I think it would be great to get a closer look at Kate's Winslet's accent. Wish you all the best!
OK, if we are working class and we drop ts and glottalize it's slovenly and common. If it's a posh bird we enthuse over the avant-garde cuteness of it all.
In Hongkong, the pre-requisite of speaking proper English (or losing the Cantonese accent) is pronouncing the /th/ sound properly like RP instead of smearing it into an 'f' sound. Northern England's 'a' (/ae/) is also used more often in US English.
Well most of pronunciation indicators of modern RP seems to be similar to standard American English. It seem modern RP might be more influenced by American entertainments.
Is it wrong to say that I would be happy to learn anything Jemma Chan happens to be teaching? All kidding aside, she was great in Humans even before Crazy Rich Asians (which was also fantastic and quite charming...the whole cast was brilliant).
At 10:00 I personally believe that she was saying ‘with us’ not ‘and us’ as to me that’s what it sounds like so it isn’t the most indicative representation of the schwa sound
I know Barry Keoghan is Irish but, can you please do a video analyzing his sound? he uses some words new to me on interviews that I would like to understand hehehe.... I was also very impressed about how he got on point doing an American accent. Thank you so much, new subscriber!

They are different in the way that words are pronounced in heightened precision.
