not really much of a spoiler, what I will say is expalined at literally the first seconds episode 1, basically aliens and blood benders (like from Avatar, Last Airbender) living in harmony with humans
some humans learned the blood bending techniques too and other abilities... but with harmony, comes people or things that want to ruin that peace and the blood benders defend the city from the apocalypses basically

That's not the sunrise, everyone mistakes it but that's the "event" happening. You can see that the building lights stay on for the entire scene & then it shows the "event" finally happen.
That op has quite a lot of hidden nice things.

The anime has two seasons each around 12 episodes, and a couple OVAs. The series is complete (for now, there is a chance for more content considering the manga, but nothing confirmed) The format is really fun, where the first few episodes are fairly episodic and just fun, and then the underlying plot kicks in and it gets more serious, with a perfect resolution at the end. It follows that same format in both seasons.

Luke you would LOVE everything on this shows OST. On My Way, White Beyond, and Tortoise Knight were my personal favorites. They’re very emotional and sweet pieces sung by an amazing voice. Actually, this anime had a lot of love put into the OST with so many different musical genres and big names coming together like Taisei Iwasaki, Ai Ninomiya, Masayuki Hirano, and many more. Also, a TH-camr called Studio Yuraki did an amazing English cover of the second OP which I think you would enjoy a lot!

The setting is awesome. It is placed in New York, but it’s NY after a disaster struck and a portal basically opened in it causing people and monsters to live together kinda like how things are in Futurama where you’d be getting lunch and a lobster man could be sitting down next to you lol. Super entertaining, very chaotic!

  • @razna18

Kekkai Sensen is the Japanese title and Blood Blockade Battlefront is the English title. The anime is great (pretty crazy), especially the second season bought me so I recommend it. The openings and endings are brilliant and in general I would recommend the songs myself as well as the anime itself. The band from the 2nd opening and 1st ending is UNISON SQUARE GARDEN which you heard in Blue Lock (and here I recommend anime name Welcome to the Ballroom where this band performs 2 great openings, endings I also recommend). You have also heard Daoko so here I would recommend Shingeki no Bahamut (in season 2 she performs 2 endings). Again, I remind you of the endings from anime you've already done reactions to the openings like Ranking of Kings (Yama, Milet and Aimer are still waiting for your reaction), Psycho Pass, Fire Force, Gintama, Golden Kamuy and many more. Also I recommend an anime called Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin where the opening is performed by Coldrain (yes the one from "Mayday" from Fire Force) and Galneryus (a metal band you heard in second ending to Hunter x Hunter) so its your vibes.
And here are the rest of my recommendations:
    - Ranking of Kings 3 endings
    - Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin (ENG title: Rainbow) 1 opening & 1 ending
    - Barakamon 1 opening & 1 ending
    - Bakuman 4 openings & 6 endings
    - Yakusoku no Neverland (ENG title: The Promised Neverland) 2 openings & 3 endings
    - D.Gray Man 9 endings
    - Golden Kamuy 4 endings
    - Ajin (ENG title: Ajin: Demi-Human) 3 openings & 2 endings
    - Beelzebub 5 openings & 6 endings
    - Shingeki no Bahamut (ENG title: Rage of Bahamut) 3 openings & 4 endings (1st season subtitled "Genesis" has 1 opening & 2 endings, 2nd season "Virgin Soul" has 2 openings & 2 endings)

if you have'nt checked out "Baccano" it is based in America and has an amazing dub cast
    music is also amazing
EDIT: Baccano is basically like a Tarantino movie but in series structure and its amazing. There is 13 episode and 3 special also its a kinda completed i.e. it has a satisfying ending even though it is not THE END

    @malice926 ปีที่แล้ว +20

I love that you put Kekkai Sensen in parenthesis for the title, I think it sounds way better than the english title.
    Edits:
2:55 Spoiler free: You're not far off with your first guess as to what it's about, but it's an odd combination of sci-fi, fantasy, action, and slice of life. You would probably love it.
4:12 Ehhhh, probably not the person to ask, but I think the sub is better for this personally.
6:02 Uhhhh, hard to explain, and kindof subjective, the anime aired in 2015, so it's not exactly old, but it's not exactly new. The manga was put out in 2009 though, so make what you want from that info.
8:45 Yes, very much yes the whole way through.
11:46 "Kekkai Sensen" (血界戦線) is literally translated to "Bloodline Battlefront" so the english name is an extrapolation of that to a more literal meaning.

I remember watching the first season of this anime and feeling really lost almost the entire time. it was very cool! but I remember feeling like I couldn't really get a foothold in the plot or characters as easily as I wanted to.
I think I was expecting something more akin to Fullmetal Alchemist or Golden Kamuy, where you have a large ensemble cast, and each person is linked up to a different branch of the central conflict. in stories like those, you get a sense of diverse people from all walks of life being pulled together by their circumstances, and becoming united because each one has a different piece of the puzzle. it all clicks together like gears in a well oiled machine, and it's really satisfying.
in Blood Blockade Battlefront, I think it was almost the reverse... you start with the central conflict each episode, and the characters are just a bunch of coworkers who are assigned to get involved. even the main character's induction into the group is more happenstance than choice, so it's hard to get a good grasp on anyone's true motivations.
that said, the worldbuilding is really cool! and in terms of episodic plotlines, there are some really interesting ones that end up happening. plus the OPs/EDs are absolute bangers.
(I'm still recommending the Golden Kamuy EDs btw. and Dorohedoro's OP/EDs. talk about your wacky ensemble casts...)

  • @ohms7309
    @ohms7309 ปีที่แล้ว +7

YES! YESSS! I love this anime so much and I'm glad you finally got to at least watch the OPs and ED's. Its hilarious (without much cheekiness like Konosuba) and also has a very interesting premise. I hope at some point yo get to watch it, especially since its really short compared to some more popular ones.
Edit: Blood Blockade Battlefront is the English name and Kekkai Sensen (Kek-Eye Sen-Sen?) is the japanese title. I think you got it... mostly right that they are a group of superhumans trying to stave off the apocalypse, but it is hard to explain the story without spoilers, but suffice to say it is hilarious.

1:06 yes it is set in New York or rather a corrupted version of it, TLDR of the setting is that a portal to the great “beyond” opened up in New York City and fused with it now resulting in its currently being a melting pot of beings and creature from another dimension alongside humans and the city is renamed hellsalem’s lot
5:18 yes there is vampires in this, this work began as a 1 shot focusing on vampire hunting before the idea was scraped and it was completely revamped into something else with vampires just still existing and the vampire hunting element being jsut a side duty as the main plot focuses on soemthing else entirely and having a new character as the protagonist

There's actually more anime that are set in New York (or America in general) like Baccano!, 91 Days and Banana Fish. Both Baccano! and 91 Days take place during the Prohibition era and while I don't know the 91 Days dub -if there is one- I really love how the English dub of Baccano! actually replicates the dialects from back then :D If you're interested, I recommend checking out the openings for these shows, they're also pretty good ;)

For those still doesn't understand the plot of kekkai sensen
Basically this anime is about a guy name Leonardo, who wanna knows the truth about her sister eye and how to cure it, and in order to do that he gotta involved to secret organization named Libra
And basically the whole anime 1 & 2 season is about Libra protect and maintenance the city that they living in, all episodes basically giving a story to every other character inside the Libra, how is their life everyday and stuff, with a slow progression to Leonardo story

one great description for it: Each days in hellsalem's lot is a new adventure.
In this anime we follow someone that obtain a power, he go to Hellsalem's Lot, the city that was New York before a dimension hole appear, fusing this city with other dimension and changing the physics law in this city, and anything can happen here.
    this anime is great.
Kekkai Sensen is the japanese Name, maybe it's because i'm in france but i see each name almost in each of my research.

OMG, finally its here! This has the same anime studio as noragami, the BONES. The OPEDs are great and my love, but the OSTs are another level up. Animation is top tier. This one has the fun and crazy vibe to enjoy. More unit stories and per-episode stories which gives a bit more western tv drama vibes, but not much. The one downside I can think of is that the main storyline is not strong enough that everyone new to the series may get confused about the main storyline and a few specific episodes, what I did is just enjoy how other sides of the show are so well presented.

The first ending is not only used for parodies, but easily one of the best endings of all time imo. It like gives a vibe about a story has ended n now its the last time we will ever be seeing these characters, we had our fun and now its time to say bye. Kind of emotional but also puts a smile on the face. Is kind of the reason for some of the parodies as well i think. Btw, me n some of my friends at the last day of highschool did the shoulder grabbing while putting out legs up and down (idk what that is called but i think you might knw what i mean) .

So, if memory serves, the artist for Kekkai Sensen spent quite some time in NYC doing sketches and research for this manga - trying to remember/try not to drop spoilers but still drum up interest. Let's see...the protag, Leonardo Watch, is a regular photog who is put into a bad situation that forces him to work with an organization called LIBRA, who works from the shadows to maintain the fragile balance in what NYC changed into after....some shenanigans. It's a supernatural/superhero show, with a strong blood theme (a lot of the powers are sanguine, though not all of them) - art is great, characters are great, lore is trippy af - it's a little vampire-Cthulhu flavored, and there are a couple of characters reminiscent of comic book villains like the Joker. There's actually a ton of Western comic book and movie influence in it - flavor-wise, it's an Eastern take on a Western story, I suppose.
Some other notes - the story for S1 is anime-original, while S2 is much more like the manga. The manga does not follow a tight timeline like a lot of others, instead it's kind of episodic in nature, more like a comic book would be, with a lot more focus on characterization than the overarching story for most of its run.
Highly underrated, highly recommended, aged really well and the dub is actually pretty good too! You should watch it, think you'll enjoy it.

BBB is like if the MIB had all the aliens out of cover and living their life with human without no fear but things are turned up to ten. The anime is such a vibe.

I blame the English title of this show for it being not as popular as it deserves.

Honestly, you were pretty spot on with most of your guesses! Group of powered people fight monsters, including vampires; the only semi-correction I'd make (and it's not a spoiler, you learn it pretty much immediately) is that an apocalypse of sort has already happened, turning New York City into a place filled with both humans and non-humans, behind a huge barrier, now called Hellsalem's Lot.
The main character, Leonardo Watch, is one of the more unique anime protagonists IMO, given his specific powers and his approach to situations. I also want to note that the show is absolutely a comedy on top of being really action-oriented, with a lot of slapstick, and it's a sometimes raunchy comedy at that! So it's worth being prepared for that going in just so it's not a complete tonal surprise, lol. I definitely recommend it; it has two completed seasons and an OVA that goes between the two, like an extra episode that's about the same length as any other episode, called "King of the Restaurant of Kings." That OVA is well worth also checking out! (There's a second OVA after the second season, but I haven't seen that one so I can't specifically vouch for it.)
If you do watch, I hope you enjoy it! If the humor ends up clicking with you I think it'd be right up your alley.

Blood Blockade Battlefront is interesting in that it borders on being an anthology series, with mostly self-contained episodes spotlighting different members of the main organization, though each season does have a larger (albeit non-canon) storyline woven between them.

  • @taesto3204

Blood Blockade Battlefront is quite good, would recommend! It is interesting in that while it has an overarching plot that goes forward bit by bit, it is largely episodic, so one episode deals with one thing, another with completely other, with perhaps a couple of scenes here and there forwarding the bigger plot going on in the background. These episodic stories are quite fun though, and really give a lot to the series' charm. This is probably thanks to the series premise, put simply (and spoiler-freely) it is about a secret organization trying to maintain peace in a sort of post-apocalyptic New York. The concept is really not at all limiting, and the author really knew how to have fun with it, so again, would recommend!

It's an extremely fun anime. It has awesome characters with cool and wacky fights, unique powers and amazing osts.
the story takes place in Hellsalem's Lot which was New York before a gateway opened to other dimensions and now all kinds of creatures, monsters, and supernatural stuff live alongside humans. The mc is Leonardo Watch who randomly receives the power of "All-seeing Eyes of the Gods". He goes to Hellsalem's Lot to know more about his mysterious powers and encounters Libra the secret X-men style organization that deals with any supernatural threats. If this already sounds crazy then there's crazier stuff that happens in the show.

Suggestion for another anime music reaction and watch along: Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Directed by the guy who directed Attack on Titan, OST Music by Hiroyuki Sawano, and end theme by Aimer. Enough said.

In regards to the New York setting, it very much captures the 'this may as well be happening.' Vibe that you get when walking down the street and taking public transit, and you see something outrageous happening. The narrative format is episodic introdcing some new crazy conflict that gets resolved within one or two episodes, and no matter how strange the problem it's always treated like it's just another Tuesday. There's a lot of little world building bits in the background so it feels very lived in, if nigh incomprehensible sometimes.
Without trying to spoil too much: (but stop if you don't want any) The world already had some magic craziness going on, vampires, fang hunters, magicians, etc. Then New York became an inter-dimensional sinkhole filled with aliens and whatever else you can think of. The story starts three years after 'The Collapse', so the populace has had time to settle into their new reality. It's probably one of my favorite settings in anime.

BBB is easily in the running for my favorite anime. It's essentially an action comedy with a bit of a crime thriller flavor.
But what I love the most about the anime is actually what director Rie Matsumoto brought, with two additional characters and their overarching plot.
Also the dub is quite good imo. Ian Sinclair as Zapp is amazing!

This is one of my most beloved anime. Kekkai Sensen or the Blood Blockade Battlefront is a very curious story.
In this world, one day in New York a gate to Hell is opened in the middle of the city, and thousands of demons and hell inhabitants got out of there and into the city... and started living there they're daily lives. There's only one bridge connecting the city to the rest of the world, and even though this whole situation would seem apocalyptic, life couldn't get ever more exciting in the now called Hellsalem's Lot.
Its story about a guy called Leonardo Watch, a simple guy with very good eyes, that arrives into the city searching for a miracle, gets absorbed into a "X-men"-esque kind of group and now has to help deal with the several daily apocaliptic events of divine nature that happens in the always live Big city.
This anime/manga does become of a self-aware satire, but it does have A LOT of heart behind, VEEEEEEEERY GOOD music that I would love you to check out if it wasnt for how heavily copyrighted those songs are, and very memeable and memorable moments.

"Kekkai sensei" is indeed the Japanese name and its the symbols that look like this: 血界戦線. Overally though, The English title "Blood Blockade Battlefront" is used visually becausw Japan just thinks English looks and sounds cooler XD So they have a tendency to slap the English title into visuals.
Also the ending 1 is probably the most famous of the 4 songs. It's bewn used to make parodies and memes for all kinds of series and fandoms at this point because its so fun and beloved. I also vividly remember being excited to buy a cd of it when it first released (as I was in Japan at the time) but was sorely disappointed that I couldn't find it at the big store I went to. Found out later that day on the news that it had immediately sold out at many stores and ranked #1 on the Japan billboards so no wonder I couldn't find it 😂😂!! Ended up having to buy it on iTunes which was thankfully an option.

AHHHH! FINALLY! gosh, i've been waiting for that one! It's one of my all-time favourites and hugely underrated, unfortunately :(
Let me tell you, this anime is a wild ride for sure, you can get a little lost 'cuz It's really chaotic, but the visuals and fight scenes are what i'm living for! ❤
whole animation is top notch, sceneries breathtaking, humor is sick, plot original and characters are peak and a delight to watch!
I'm sure you'd love it and have a good laugh 😂
I, personally don't know anyone who watched Kekkai Sensen and didn't like it. And i've been in the anime community for abt 8 years now, so i think it speaks volumes abt how good it is. Highly recommend checking it out!

Let me recommend another series happening in USA you might love, that is looong long overdue here, Banana Fish! The anime is amazing and music is also stunning, I am honestly surprised you haven't reacted to the openings and endings from it yet!
Also some less popular series that I think you should check out the openings of:
    -Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans
-The Vampire Dies in no time (this is a very fun comedy, sadly I feel like it's underrated quite a bit)
-Osomatsu-san (Another very fun comedy with very unique artstyle!)
Also I'd love to see your reactions to animated shorts from Honkai Impact 3rd!
