    This place is being patrolled by security and the police, people have been caught here. Furthermore, the active Honors Haven Hotel is right next door. The buzzing power sound you heard in the basement is for the active cell phone antenna's on the roof of the building. There were plans to keep some of the building structures such as the ice skating ring, and multi floor round building in the new renovation plans to turn the resort into a casino. There's photos and videos floating around on the internet. The new casino was planned to be completed and opened on March 2020, there's still a billboard on Rt 209 announcing the opening date, but the resort still sits abandoned. The building is indeed has been marked for demo. 500 acres of the property has been put up for sale. It's cool seeing you two explore something so near by to me.

      That KitchenAid was about $300 in 1966. Almost $2500 in today’s money. Commercial build quality, high temp sanitizing. Unheard of quality for consumer level stuff. It’s a safe bet that the range and dishwasher would work as new.

    Unfortunately, there are several other abandoned resorts in the area. Additionally, several small bungalow colonies where the mother and kids would stay for the summer and the father would travel back and forth during the weekend. The travel vendors would stop weekly. Such as: the dairy man, the meat man, the clothes man. The colony would attract NYC residents. The colony would have an outdoor pool, ball courts, and an indoor pavilion. Kids would see each other every summer. Completely outdoor fun. I write from experience. I had the opportunity to indulge for two consecutive summers only for two full weeks each 1967 and 1968. This was the alternate to the Jersey shore. What fun, what adventure, what memories.

    • @Cris-em9tn
      @Cris-em9tn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @ I get what you're meaning, but these didn't pop up entirely due to America being great. The Borscht Belt's vacationers were almost exclusively Jewish for two reasons. First it let families who lived near each other in NYC or shared similar history spend quality time together. But second was that these started in the 1920s during antisemitism, that continued through WWII. They weren't just fun but they were safe places for people to go to, instead of essentially being by yourself if someone started something with you.
      I live in the Belt area and I know so many people had great vacations here. But people stuck together like this partly because America was an even shittier place.

    I toured the Nevele about 9 years ago, and the first building you toured was my absolute favorite. It was in MUCH better shape back then - very little structural damage. I’m pretty sure that building was last used as staff quarters, particularly during ski season. In several of the back rooms we found containers of literally hundreds of used syringes and other drug paraphernalia, so it had been pretty recently squatted in.

      Looks like a color popular during the 70's when harvest gold and yellow were big in kitchens. I was thinking though the tower was built during the 60's because they used them tilting adjustable aluminum sashes in the window walls on the main floor. What I've noticed in buildings that style of window was popular during the 50's, but they quit making them in the 60's. I'm guessing the kitchen is probably from the mid to late 60's. Companies would be producing the same products for several years, so I would imagine what they started manufacturing in one decade would continue into the next before they adapted to a new style.
