I used to be a ski instructor and a life guard there 20 years ago now (crazy to think). It's interesting to see how the place has been taken over by vegetation and decayed over time. A lot of us worked there when we were in highschool: bellhops, kitchens, servers, ski instructors, camp counselors, life guards etc... brings back a lot of memories watching you walk through the buildings.
@Jeannie Farnsworth they invested a bunch of money for renovations in the late 90s I believe, but it needed way more than what was invested. I feel like there were always leaks somewhere. The buildings were very old. I enjoyed going there though. Was a lot of fun working there as a ski instructor and life guard.
My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon there in 1967. We had a great time. The food was very good and abundant. The evening entertainment was excellent and lots to do during the day. It’s sad to see it in its present state.
Jake, thank you for making this video. It absolutely broke my heart. My family vacationed here twice a year for almost 10 years; our last visit was winter 2001. I have so many fond memories of this resort- skating at the rink, tubing down the mountains until our faces were frozen, swimming and jumping in the pool, the indoor mini golf course (which you didn't get on video- it is part of the kid's club area in the basement and it was AWESOME!), and so much more. We even have family photos in the lobby and dining room; they are still on display in my parent's house! I always thought I would take my kids there...well, my oldest child is almost the age when I started going. Such a bittersweet video for me. Thanks again Jake!
My wife's family also used to go there twice a year back when she was a kid. Now with Legoland opening up maybe the project will resurrect the property may once more gain some traction.
i remember the indoor mini golf course! sadly the last memory i had of it it was run down/broken mostly so i only stayed in the indoor mini golf course for a while because it wasn't really working the last time i stayed there.. i even remember they had a little sign next to the front desk telling us where the mini golf course was lol (i believe this was around 2009)
Wouldn't recommend going to this place. Someone got arrested earlier this week. Fencing and cameras went up and state police are patrolling. Glad i was able to film it the two times i did before all this happened.
JPVideos JP, was considering. Any idea on the level of risk? (1-10?) And, if low, where to park. Want some drone footage before it’s gone. I live close.
I'm 66yrs old and lived thur most of this, without worrying about what others were doing, I worked saved my money and paid cash for what I needed /wanted sometimes when I saved enough I found I didn't want it ,so surprising how much money my taxes paid for rich people's folly's!
Hurts my heart to see this. Have so many wonderful memories staying at the Nevele with my grandparents, Parents, and my brother in the late 70's early 80's. Spent a lot of time in the game room, playing mini golf, ping pong, ice skating, etc etc... The adults would always be hanging out in the Safari lounge at night... I could go on and on. It was a glorious time!
I remember going there in the summer as a kid in the mid to late 1980’s. Had a blast in the kids club winning the little trophies, the arcade, hiking to the falls, horseback riding & playing sports there.
Jake, the production and overall quality of this video seems to be a notch above most of your other episodes. And I love all your videos, they're all quality. But this seems to be a level above. Amazing work.
You're level of filmmaking has risen dramatically over the years. This is a professional documentary, you should consider entering it in a festival. Great work.
theQtipzz Minus the incessant heavy breathing and constant comments like “Geez!” & “Wow!” I agree that the video is good, but definitely need to work on fixing these audio issues...
I was here durning BrightSunGaming. I would have never thought your videos would turn into such high quality films. Im honestly to happy with the way your channel has grown and how your videos have improved dramatically. I was here for 1,000 subs and ill be here for a 1,000,000 subs. Keep it up man!
WOW. such a shame. I was the cross country ski instructor there in the early 80’s. It was an amazing place. The ski lodge and ice rink were sooo beautiful.
We used to vacation at the Nevele every summer. We’d go to the falls. “Nevele” is “Eleven” spelled backwards for the 11 teachers that found the falls. If you would have taken a trail besides the ski lift you would have found the falls and a plaque that talked about the Nevele’s origin.
Just so sad. My parents honneymooned there and many years later took, when we were kids, my brother and i back to vacation there. We actually stayed in the tower in the early 1970's...we swam in the pools, played video games in their game room, but that lobby was amazing...those were great memories....just so sad to see it abandoned....
I can't imagine see this video and having memories of the place when it was in operation, looks like it was so long ago, even though we see the flyer from 2008. I live in the desert and things just don't rot out fast like that here.
It's definitely different nowadays. I remember ski resorts and all types of other similar places that have vanished into the past. Spending the summer at a resort is still available. South Goa, India. Or Baranquilla, Colombia, a spectacular place. It's safe if you don't disappear in the night or back into the shadows behind a neon sign. In that event, shuffleboard on the Lido Deck haha 😊
Interesting you'd say that as I see totally the opposite. I see nature reclaiming the grounds as beautiful. Funny how we all see different things right?
@Gavin Gav ... I can see your reply in my messages (partly) but it's not here. Shame I wanted to see how ''entertaining'' your response would not be. And to answer your question, I do indeed know what the name Gavin means: Gavin - Boring, dull, lifeless, monotonous, mundane, stale, tedious, tame, tiresome, trite, drab, & of course routine. Did I miss anything?
Lived in Ellenville for five years. I remember when the golf course was still kept up. Owners got cheap and didn't put any money into it. One winter they turned off the heat but forgot to drain the water pipes......yikes!
makes sense that thats how it went downhill once it looks bad and mal maintained then it gets a bad reputation and makes sense...... nobody will go there any more losing money, they eventually go out of business
I was playing the last of us the other day, thought, no way 15 years could do this much nature damage. But seeing this place 11 years later after closing... I believe it.
Allot of hotels aren't exactly built to stand well when they go in disrepair. All the nice stuff is just a show for guests. But allot of the guts are bare minimum to save on building costs.
@@Josephsamuelinniss My uncle has a building company that does a lot of work on abandoned buildings. He said damp and not keeping up with maintenance are the two things that can destroy a building so quickly.
Its amazing how fast places go downhill when they abandon them. THis place looks like it was abandon 40 years ago. Turns out it's only been empty a little over 10 years.
yeah not a lot of money went into the hotel after a while in when we went it was still beautiful and the ice skating was also beautiful and that was where i learned to ice skate but i don't remember going into the pool as it was closed at the time i believe and the mini golf course was run down also i believe
My parents honeymooned at the Nevele in 1968. We stayed there for a week in the winter when I was a kid (best guess, sometime between 1979 and 1982). I attended a hospital fundraising gala there in 2000 (I worked briefly at Ellenville Regional Hospital, just down the road). It's sad to see the state into which it's fallen.
Hey Jake, just to want to let you know this video has been a blast from the past . In 2008 , my high school took the senior class here for their " senior class trip" ..and the place looked abandoned and very run down evnn then . It looked and felt like something out of the Shining (and it didnt help that we arrived after dusk with fog rolling in) , and seemed like nothing had been renovated or updated since the 70s (particularly the underground access tunnels that ran between the buildings. Fully paneled walls and old fire place and everything. ) In my room we had a window snap down on a girl's fingers when she tried to open it for some fresh hair, steps were broken , we actually had to pay for ski supplies when we were promised they would be included, and the " dance room" we had been promised was an old forgotten banquet hall they has just quickly cleaned out and set up a folding table with an orange Gatorade water cooler on it ( while another senior class from another school had the main room that was fully decorated and etc) . My friends and I still call it the nightmare trip (( the pool and skate rink were nice though))
I noticed something in the video of a tall dark shadow in the pool room with the camera guy and I don't know if its one of his friends or something but the shadow looks far taller.
I don't know why, but the Combo of the music, and how everything looks, heck even the architecture itself... Reminds me of a location you might find in a Fallout game. Some Pre-war resort that people have slowly started to pick through and use as temporary shelter from raiders.
I have been going through my late grandfather's slides from the mid-60s and found photos of the Nevele tower being built in 1964, the skating rink, pool, dining room and lobby. Included are family photos of us visiting them during the week they went there every year.
I used to have a house in Napanoch, several miles away from the Nevele. When it was on its last legs - months before finally closing - I went with some friends and took a tour of the open areas. I especially remember the old theater, whose once-grand curtain was entirely devoured by mildew and mold. You could feel the echoes of happier days all around. I'm sorry to see that it's so hopelessly deteriorated. But thank you for the trip down memory lane.
That ice rink building would make a beautiful wedding venue. Could do a full kitchen, dance floor, keep the fire pit, etc. I see it, just not in my bank account. Lol.
I’m so excited to see this! I’m from Australia and stayed here in August 2008 and have been trying to find a video to show people how creepy this hotel was! I remember exploring around even then and so many parts of the resort were in pitch black and closed off to the public. I went back to New York State in 2010 and went to the hotel next door to this and even then people couldn’t believe we stayed there only 2 years prior because it was so disheveled already. I distinctly remember the smell of mould in the main dining room and in the rooms... it just goes to show what was lurking underneath! Amazing job!!
It's so cool reading through the comments from people that was there in the 60s to ones like you almost near the end of the the place. Gave a cool picture of the place and really compliments the experience of watching this video. Knowing the amount of souls and life stories that went between those walls really blows my mind!
I've been binge-watching these "abandoned" videos and this is definitely one of the better ones. I love the old footage glimpses into the resort's better days. Well done!
Thanks for taking time to video some of the aspects of this beautiful landmark and for posting the vintage and futuristic plans that were being conceived for it's proposed restorations. The date of March 2020 which is right around the corner. Like exploring the ruins of the Titanic. Sad to see that vandals have destroyed the place over the years, smashing glass and overturning furnishings and papers. So disrespectful to the time period, people who were employed there and the structures themselves. Excellent coverage and drone shots also.
Keep in ind that a big bird can do a lot of damage to a window, and that hanging skylight shows how gravity and rot can do the same. So much of the mess in the rooms was from plaster/drywall falling from water infiltration above.
I was a bus driver in the early 2000s. I still remember picking up a group from this place. But the general attitude was "are they still in business?" It was probably the last days of this resort.
I've been watching a lot of 'abandoned places' videos and I really like your format. Not only do you show lots of interesting sights, but you talk about the history which is the main reason I like these sorts of things.
My H.S. Graduation night in 2004 was spent in one of the former ski lobbies that overlooked the mountain. Really cool experience intended to keep us from drinking. Always thought it was just a rundown ski resort that was always up for sale, but over the years have come to realize it’s significance to a bygone era for the Catskills.
This had a creepy "The Shining" feel to it. Especially the beds with blankets still on them. The view of the mountains alone seem to make it worth rebuilding.
My dad spent a lot of his childhood in Ellenville. We went back to see the area about 10 years ago. It was sad looking, economically depressed and run down with empty abandoned hotels and resorts here and there. Clearly had been a big vacation area decades ago, but when we were there I think the biggest employer was the prison. The Catskills were a big deal in the first half of the 20th century but started to go downhill when due to cheaper jet travel starting in the 1960s, the middle class in the Northeast became more able to afford to go to places like Europe, California, Florida etc.
My wife grew up there in Ellenville in the 1970’s and 80’s and I’ve visited there from the 1980’s and 90’s.....my wife’s family still lives there...,it holds so many nice memories but has become SOOO sad....
I agree - definitely appreciating the more professional videography, especially the drone shots, music backdrops, and vintage video and photo mix-ins. Nice job!
Your explorations are, in my opinion, so much better than most. You are informed enough to actually figure out what things are and you do your due research on locations, while most others sound like idiotic kids. For two years I drove past the remnants of the Nevele, on my way to my out of city property. Each time I returned to the city, I would pour over the information I could gather about it, until I finally took the turn towards the Nevele, one day and explored it myself.
It sounds like you’re wearing a mask in this video. I’m glad to hear it because I was worried about you and your lady in the Orlando 192 video with all that mold. That stuff can be dangerous.
I don't know just WHY, Jake, but I had nightmares about this place for several nights after I watched this video. They dealt mainly with being trapped in the depths of the moldy hell beneath that show room, or in one of those godforsaken, moldy beds in the tower...dang, but they were scary! Good job, guys!
I stayed there with my family back when I was really little in the early 2000s! All I can remember is playing mini golf in the basement, the fountain by the outdoor pool, and exploring late at night and finding that area with the staircase outside the theater.
Thank you for the beautiful and respectful way you show us these incredible, abandoned sites. Makes me kinda sad to think of all the vibrant life that once filled these walls! Thinking of all the joy families shared and the memories they made back in the day! How disappointing that they couldn’t find a way to keep it going. I, for one, would love to have spent a vacation there 💕
I think it is Science Channel that has a show about abandoned places but they will never be the abandoned series from BSF. That intro was so nice, professional, and high quality. I am so excited to watch this exploration and abandoned episode.
I always think yeah it's a shame places like this are left to rot, but honestly, how long do these owners think the high times can last at a resort? It's a shame the site isn't being used, those views are just amazing.
well it sounds like the original owners saw the writing on the wall hence selling it for just 15mil in the 90's and the people that bought it must have not understood the amount of repair and remodeling that would need to take place to get it to a place people wanted to go eventhought the region was also facing tourism decline . Unfortunately now the buildings are probably beyond repair so demolition will be allot.
@@animeshock2006 yeah I was thinking that while I was watching it, I didn't see any part that could realistically work again due to mould and decay etc. It's just such a shame.
@SteelRodent mould can be dealt with, yes, but you'll never fix the issue saving money in a building of that age, it'd need a damp treatment, finding the source of the damp then repairing that etc... It's easier and often cheaper these days to bring a building down and build a new one.
@Nigel Cam Other factors: Airline deregulation made it cheaper to go much farther away -- to the Rockies or Florida or the tropics, for example. And casinos in Atlantic City (and later at Foxwoods in Connecticut) weren't much harder to get to from NYC than the Catskills. I can't imagine either of those would've helped.
When I was a kid in the 60's, a two week minimum summer vacation was standard. And flying was too expensive for an average family. Hence, the drive-to leisure resorts. Now we often fly off to Florida/Europe/Vegas etc for five days, max for fun and adventure.
My family spent many summer and winter breaks here and in Kutchers- another abandoned resort in the Catskills, often on retreats with our temple. Those were some of the happiest memories I have. It's truly wild to see the fire pit I sat around with my Grandpa before going ice skating in such disrepair. Like... I was there. That place was alive. And now it's dead. It's sad.
It was so much fun heading to the Catskills for school breaks. My Grandma was always blown away by the abundance of food. The kids skied or ice skated all day and swam in the pool, Then joined the grandparents playing bingo. Cocktail Hour was our nightly family ritual with rumaki and pigs in a blanket. Then after dinner off to the lounge for the show.
And the earth, that’s fucked too. Becuase of us. Desterfication and increased natural dasasters along with raised sea levels will still be a problem even after we’re gone becuase it doesn’t just go away once it stops getting worse.
It feels surreal to see such a huge place like this sitting abandoned, where once was filled with so much life. Very sad. I hope someday they'll re-open the place, whatever it may be.
It’s to far gone to reopen they would have to strip the building down to its steel beams and start over a billion dollar renovation its more cost effective to demolish the building and surrounding buildings and build something else on the property it’s sad to say but the mold and damage from water is so much plus asbestos
@@Austin-mc2wv I'll believe you, I'm no building engineer or anything... I'll take your word for it. Just can't deny that the original buildings look great structures.
This is your best work yet, Jake. I loved how you used the echoey deep background music for a lot of the interior shots. I have never heard of this place, but it still has a certain mystical charm about it even in its abandoned and dilapidated state. It's easy to imagine how opulent it once was.
What a fantastic tribute to a truly amazing property. My mom and dad took me there every year for vacation. If you ever watch the movie “dirty dancing“ the Nevele was it. The Safari Lounge (around the 7 minute mark) what is my mom‘s favorite hangout since you could watch the nightly show through the glass. The last year I went there with them, I was 16 and old enough to go into the “cousin Brucie room” were the older teenagers hung out and danced and played the jukebox. Thanks for the great memory!
I remember going there for a weekend with my family for my grandparents 40th anniversary in ‘87. I was four years old but remember it well. It’s so eerie to see it abandoned, especially since my grandparents who I was so close with are no longer with us. It makes it a little sadder… really portrays the end of an era. Also, what is it about abandoned indoor pools that is so unsettling?
I remember seeing the Nevele tv commercial when I was a kid, it was a catchy tune and you can never forget the lyrics. It's a shame to see it in such a state now. Great video Jake you guys did a marvelous job.
For sure! I was a child of the 70’s and 80’s living in NY, and they played that commercial on TV thousands of times. Certainly a catchy tune, and it is permanently etched in my memory. Seeing the commercial again in this clip certainly brought back memories! I never stayed there, but sure do remember the commercials. I didn’t realize how massive the place was. Must have been a great experience back in its heyday.
Hey so fun fact, i lived literally right by this place, across the road from where the fencing ended for the golf course, my older sister worked at the stables there for it and she would take me for horseback riding and skiiing in the winter, visiting it was a big part of my childhood, living in Ellenville was my whole childhood and life basically until i moved after graduating and its really a shame to see it go to ruins like this, but yknow, thank you for covering it Jake, it brought tears to my eyes for nostalgia, Thank you
I learned how to ride an English saddle in those stables. My family summered at The Melbourn Hotel in Ellenville every summer until I was in my early teens. I used to go horseback riding every weekend and skate in the indoor ice skating rink at the Nevele. It was on the decline by 1976, so I was surprised it lasted as long as it did.
Wooooow. That ice skating rink at 24:44 is such a beauty. It's an amazing blend of Atomic Age and Mid-Century Modernism architecture. If nothing else, I hope that building gets preserved.
Thanks for this video. I lived in Ellenville from around 1972, and on and off into the '80s. I worked there, my mom worked there, my best friend worked there, so did her father who was the hotel barber, our chemistry teacher moonlighted as a waiter- so many people in town did at one time or another. Sad to see it now, but getting on to 50 years has gone by, and it's such a different world. But it was interesting to see it again. Thanks again!
My parents honeymooned at the Nevele in 1958, we spent many family weekends there throughout the 60's, 70's & 80's. The last time we were there was a weekend in 1995. It was a wonderful place, very sad to know how our society has changed and de-valued this kind of experience. It's a different world, not for the better in my opinion.
I don’t think people can afford this type of experience anymore. I don’t think people would refuse spend vacation in a very nice resort. Problem is, there’s no money on regular people’s pocket.
This video was great. It brought back great memories from my childhood, while at the same time made me extremely sad. So sad to see a huge historic landmark dwindle and disappear.
Mr. Losinger, your comment regarding the Marble is to be commended. The point of the video is how great times were back then in comparison to the Totally Cluster F@ck we reside in today, Amen.
Crazy what only a few years can do to a place. I remember staying here a few times with my parents for their annual work retreat in the early 2000s and grew up nearby in Pine Bush. It definitely had a “going downhill” feel and a lot of it was already closed but I almost can’t recognize it in this video. They always said they were gonna renovate but when the town shut down the casino concept this is what happened.
I stayed here in the early 90's with a couple of friends for a convention. I have vivid memories of ice skating on that rink. The resort was very dated even then, but had every type of activity right there. Ice skating, skiing, swimming, hiking, canoeing, lots of indoor activities including bands. You could tell this place rocked in the 70's. Too bad it didn't get updated, it's a central location and not far from some big populations, but still feels out there. Great video, thank you.
@@yankees29 Only tourists I see are the black hat crowd. You can read up on resorts world. They are desperate for customers, giving free nights at the hotel so people will gamble. The towns there are in very bad shape. Just ride down a main street. They look the same as 30-40 years ago, maybe worse. Taxes are extremely high and unaffordable. Very high cost of living for what it is. I love the area but I don't see major changes.
alb12345672 oh I wasn’t really talking about the casino. I hear you about that though. It was a dumb idea. I was talking about homeaway/vrbo. A lot of locals told us people rent houses up there. Some of the towns are definitely run down though. But that’s what it’s all about up there.
I clicked on this video not even realizing that was the Nevele. That's my hometown, I miss all the borsche belt hotels. The Catskills and Sullivan county have never been the same
What saddens me about growing up in that era is that the disposable income for the family to spend the summer at one of these resorts is long since gone. When I was a kid I spent the summer on vacation. Dad came on some weekends and maybe a couple weeks in the summer. Nowadays the notion that a middle class family could afford that seems so surreal to me. I couldn't do it for my kids. I know very few people that can. I can count them on one hand. In the 60s it was the normal middle class thing. The wealthy spent summers on the Mediterranean. A la Club Med popularity. Thank the Fed and untethered currency. The decline began there, now disposable income might translate into a mancave lol.
Now disposable income is spent on $600 phones, $175 shoes, and on and on. It's not so much that disposable income is gone rather people's priorities have changed and evolved in keeping with technology and culture. I grew up going to places like this but kids don't want this kind of thing anymore. I'm only 50 and life changed quickly.
Who was taking a whole summer off in the 60s and 70s? Two weeks per year was pretty standard unless you were a teacher or in construction. Also, people got tired of freezing their ass off all the time and started heading to Fla instead. You can get campy architecture anywhere. Have to travel for the weather.
This is one of the best abandoned exploring videos I have seen! The quality of the camera work and playing of the old commercials and flashbacks really add to the video. I also loved that you researched it and told its story, you didn't just walk around with a camera. Loved this video and cant wait to check out more of your work. Keep it up and thanks for posting this for everyone to enjoy!
D William I spent most of the four years I dated my wife before we married and moved to California wandering around this area in the late 1980’s (she grew up in Ellenville)..most of the places were in decline even then, although it took the Nevele until well into the 1990’s to really notably decline...Honestly, these places looked a LOT like the old classic Vegas places that were all knocked down
@@edvaira6891 hence why I think the original owners sold in the 1990s the saw the writing on the wall. thought the people that bought it probably didn't understand how much stuff needed to be done and that tourism was changing in the area
I actually live in ellenville NY I drive past the nevele all the time and it’s just truly sad how it closed. Hurricane Irene really took a tole on the place but the sports complex isn’t happening either the owner more or less tried to screw over the investors. And Jake this was a wonderful video hope you enjoyed Ellenville !
In my lifetime I have seen lots of places like this come and go. It's sad. I grew up visiting a small amusement park that my daughter will never know, even though the roller coaster is still standing there, rotting. Now imagine how many lost memories like this have come and gone throughout history. To many there were a life and now they will be forgotten to history.
That skating rink building is so cool! Also, those Blizzard Firebird XO skis at 29:04 came out in 2006. Place looks like it's been abandoned for a lot longer than that.
I grew up in Ellenville, NY. And as a kid there was always something to do at the NEVELE. The hotel employed hundreds of people in it's day. It's a shame to see that it has turned out this way.
My grandpa owned a series of hotels in the Catskills in the 70s and 80s. Business ending up slowing down and he has to sell. They wrote a book and mentioned him and other resort/hotels in the area. Im going to go back and see if they mentioned this one.
Jake, I can't thank you enough for posting this, and all the work involved. I'm quite a bit into abandoned hotels and motels. And even the history of the operational ones, that are old. I'm not sure what it is that draws me in, and I'm not sure what it is about the Nevele, but I've definitely spent sometime researching it and just having fun. I find it interesting that in a google street view in 2012, the Nevele Grand resort and country club sign looks well maintained and the grass is mowed. And a more recent one on Bing, where the sign has been changed to mention the casino which isn't going to happen there now. Evidently the only portion of the resort they are maintaining is the sign and grass around it.
Is it just me? I find these vids incredibly sad. The ideas and concepts of people, brought to fruition and then lost to time and decay. It's like a metaphor of human life, I suppose.
Seemed like a great place in it's prime. I love the architecture, style, class, friendliness of the 40's - 70's before I was even born, sadly the era elements fade away and become harder to find.
I will always have my childhood memories. I’m 58 and we went every winter from the time I was 7 until about 16. Great times. Friday afternoon early pickup from school , I used to think it was so far away. Another world yet it was only 3 hour trip. Tobogganing, bingo, that guy that painted with toilet paper, the good old days. Now I’m my parents.
I love how you play the original commercials and it fades into present day. It’s nostalgic and eerie at the same time and I love it

I recognized the place from the theme song.
I remember the commercials
I used to be a ski instructor and a life guard there 20 years ago now (crazy to think). It's interesting to see how the place has been taken over by vegetation and decayed over time. A lot of us worked there when we were in highschool: bellhops, kitchens, servers, ski instructors, camp counselors, life guards etc... brings back a lot of memories watching you walk through the buildings.
Like Patrick’s Wayne and jeniferreyofdirtydancing
it must be kinda sad to see it in such a state
@Jeannie Farnsworth they invested a bunch of money for renovations in the late 90s I believe, but it needed way more than what was invested. I feel like there were always leaks somewhere. The buildings were very old. I enjoyed going there though. Was a lot of fun working there as a ski instructor and life guard.
So sad, just goes to show you life is not about things. Things will rot. Just build good experience and move on.
Ha, Was just thinking, That would have been a good place to Bellhop. (Fun gig when i was one)
It's always strange to think that someone came in there one final time and made the beds for no one to ever sleep in them again.
I have thought the same ❤ so sad how quickly Nature can reclaim the land 😢
My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon there in 1967. We had a great time. The food was very good and abundant. The evening entertainment was excellent and lots to do during the day. It’s sad to see it in its present state.
To reopen in March 2020. If they only knew what was coming that month!!
Haha yeah really!
300 million is kinda cheap for all the disrepair...obviously will be over budget...when someone takes it up

Well, you can go stay there for free, maybe in that honeymoon suite? Just brush the ceiling debris off of the bed. No flushing required.

i remember the indoor mini golf course! sadly the last memory i had of it it was run down/broken mostly so i only stayed in the indoor mini golf course for a while because it wasn't really working the last time i stayed there.. i even remember they had a little sign next to the front desk telling us where the mini golf course was lol (i believe this was around 2009)
Wouldn't recommend going to this place. Someone got arrested earlier this week. Fencing and cameras went up and state police are patrolling. Glad i was able to film it the two times i did before all this happened.

Very sad indeed. I was thinking the same thing.

WOW. such a shame. I was the cross country ski instructor there in the early 80’s. It was an amazing place. The ski lodge and ice rink were sooo beautiful.
It must break your heart to see it in that condition. Shows all of us just how ephemeral life truly is.
I was wowed by the skating rink even in the condition it is now. It must have been just gorgeous.
Hoop Jeanne it really was amazing. Breaks my heart every time I drive by.
Wow, thank you. Eleven spelled backwards is nevele, didn't know that.... I vividly remembered the commercial as a kid.....really sad getting old.
Great info!
I thought it was because the owner had 11 kids
@@chelle967 According to "lore" it is named after the eleven teachers that found the falls. So not really sure..
Is it weird for you watching this video ?
It always amazes me how, in the absence of constant maintenance, how quickly nature reclaims everything.
I know, wikipedia said it closed in 2009. Can you believe that?!?
Just so sad. My parents honneymooned there and many years later took, when we were kids, my brother and i back to vacation there. We actually stayed in the tower in the early 1970's...we swam in the pools, played video games in their game room, but that lobby was amazing...those were great memories....just so sad to see it abandoned....
Wow! you must make collage of photos and share
My brother and I were there with our parents then as well.
I can't imagine see this video and having memories of the place when it was in operation, looks like it was so long ago, even though we see the flyer from 2008. I live in the desert and things just don't rot out fast like that here.
I remember hearing the theme song in the commercials. There and, "Beautiful Mt. Airy Lodge" in The Poconos.
Something kinda profoundly sad about the state of it.
Think of the memories made there. Not anymore.
Interesting you'd say that as I see totally the opposite. I see nature reclaiming the grounds as beautiful. Funny how we all see different things right?
By memories do you mean baby’s??? Cause.... a lot. Lol

Allot of hotels aren't exactly built to stand well when they go in disrepair. All the nice stuff is just a show for guests. But allot of the guts are bare minimum to save on building costs.
It’s amazing how quickly not doing simple maintenance, like clearing out the gutters, can lead to a buildings rapid deterioration.
Yes it could be a good study on how the forest reclaims the the land as it did with the Mayan civilization after their cities were abandoned.
Yeah. I was thinking of The Last of Us Two the whole time
There is a similar location in the Fallout 4 DLC Far Harbor.
Yep, the last of us part 2 was in my mind too!
@@richardludwig3673 thought exactly the same! you thinking about the harbor grand hotel?

2008? Wow!
Well done!
BSF and Dan Bell are two of the top tier abandoned places content creators on TH-cam.
So much of the mess in the rooms was from plaster/drywall falling from water infiltration above.
sorry . . . that should be "Keep it in mind . . "
I was a bus driver in the early 2000s. I still remember picking up a group from this place. But the general attitude was "are they still in business?" It was probably the last days of this resort.

Where did you go to school?

I always think yeah it's a shame places like this are left to rot, but honestly, how long do these owners think the high times can last at a resort?
It's a shame the site isn't being used, those views are just amazing.
@@bukwild00 erm, you're weird and not in a good way.
well it sounds like the original owners saw the writing on the wall hence selling it for just 15mil in the 90's and the people that bought it must have not understood the amount of repair and remodeling that would need to take place to get it to a place people wanted to go eventhought the region was also facing tourism decline .
Nature will reclaim the earth - almost like we were never here.

It’s people who are fucked!
And the earth, that’s fucked too. Becuase of us. Desterfication and increased natural dasasters along with raised sea levels will still be a problem even after we’re gone becuase it doesn’t just go away once it stops getting worse.
Get some Napalm, and teach those plants a lesson.

It feels surreal to see such a huge place like this sitting abandoned, where once was filled with so much life. Very sad. I hope someday they'll re-open the place, whatever it may be.
It’s truly unreal to experience it
It’s to far gone to reopen they would have to strip the building down to its steel beams and start over a billion dollar renovation its more cost effective to demolish the building and surrounding buildings and build something else on the property it’s sad to say but the mold and damage from water is so much plus asbestos
Jorge Leitner it will probably cost a billion

Very dank video buddy! Definitely one of your best! Was awesome exploring this place with you and cool to see what you made of the footage!
How is this a month ago
Yeah, they played that commercial late at night. Over and over
Wow now that tune has just come back into my head! I grew up in NYC in the 60s and 70s.
Hey so fun fact, i lived literally right by this place, across the road from where the fencing ended for the golf course, my older sister worked at the stables there for it and she would take me for horseback riding and skiiing in the winter, visiting it was a big part of my childhood, living in Ellenville was my whole childhood and life basically until i moved after graduating and its really a shame to see it go to ruins like this, but yknow, thank you for covering it Jake, it brought tears to my eyes for nostalgia, Thank you
You have memories! And that can't be taken away......I have horses and would have been neat to ride in NY. 🤠
The amount of skis and ski shoes and ice skates that were left was amazing, I'm surprised people haven't gone in and taken them
Thanks for this video.

Crazy what only a few years can do to a place. I remember staying here a few times with my parents for their annual work retreat in the early 2000s and grew up nearby in Pine Bush. It definitely had a “going downhill” feel and a lot of it was already closed but I almost can’t recognize it in this video.

@Firsthgyhgyhuy Lastujhujhuj What an eloquent reply. Do you have more to say or do you have the brain the size of a pea?
@@vbri exactly and well said.
Sometimes you just do asbestos you can.
From the footage i can hear (i think and hope) that he's wearing a pretty good face mask. Also good against mold.
I remember this place in its heyday. Sad. Also used to go to the Pines, The Homowack, Grossingers and the Concord.
I like how this kind of feels like a snowboarding/skiing video with the musical nature scenes and the way they're shot.
According to lore, Nevele is Eleven spelt backwards as a nod to the eleven nineteenth century teachers who discovered a waterfall within its property
thanks Kim
hi kim. want some 🎂?
What I read and heard was the founder/owner/builder named it for his eleven children. Eleven spelled backward is Nevele.

Jake: Feel free to skip at any of these key points
Me: Ain't Nobody Got Time for That!
That skating rink building is so cool! Also, those Blizzard Firebird XO skis at 29:04 came out in 2006. Place looks like it's been abandoned for a lot longer than that.
The rack, down the stairs was for hangers for laundry after cleaning!!! Remember staying there in the 1980's with my folks for skiing!!!
BSF, Beautifully made. Thank you for capturing and showing us the Nevele. Y'all are true historians!
Is it just me? I find these vids incredibly sad. The ideas and concepts of people, brought to fruition and then lost to time and decay. It's like a metaphor of human life, I suppose.
Most definetly... nothing is permanent🙏🏽🐀
Very cool. I was a musician there in 1982- 1983. Lot's of memories of the bar, showroom and pool.
Worked here as recently as 2001. Amazing how quickly it has decayed. Heartbreaking.
Seemed like a great place in it's prime. I love the architecture, style, class, friendliness of the 40's - 70's before I was even born, sadly the era elements fade away and become harder to find.
60s and 70s architecture don't have sause👎👘👘👘👖👖👖🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮⏭1⃣6⃣6⃣6⃣
I will always have my childhood memories. I’m 58 and we went every winter from the time I was 7 until about 16. Great times. Friday afternoon early pickup from school , I used to think it was so far away. Another world yet it was only 3 hour trip. Tobogganing, bingo, that guy that painted with toilet paper, the good old days. Now I’m my parents.
Im shocked at the lack of looting! So much winter sport gear just sitting there...
Great video! 🌟💜
