Sure. I've tried $ store cucumbers, zucchini, sunflowers, peppers, and pumpkins. They don't have many seeds inside, but I've had good luck with germination. Except for green onions--but I suspect the seeds might be year-old and onion seeds don't always keep as well as other seeds. I buy seeds from seed companies to try other varieties, such as the heirloom romanesco zucchini, hot wax peppers, or tomatoes.
I'm going to try several things. I read that laying down clear plastic for about a month (so, in the spring before planting) will heat up the soil and kill off the virus. Also, I think cornmeal helps??? I may even put a few plants in grow bags just as security that I will get SOME slicing tomatoes. I'll see what else I can research.

@@gracieshomeandgardens5089 Hi Gracie Blight 🤬! So far this year my tomatoes are blight free, growing like weeds. I try to space them out as much as possible for air movement but now my celebrity are touching. I also keep trimming them up My lower leaves are all gone. They look like little trees. No splash zone. So far so good. Doubt it lasts though. Tomato in southern Ontario is prone to to blight. Happy gardening. I just saw that I have a phlox that is loaded with powdery mildew. Yuck! I keep getting rid of my phlox with only a couple left. Good bye phlox.
Congratulations on your new grandchild 😊 … Great harvest, what type of garlic did you plant? I just preordered my garlic from Mackenzie for this fall. I ordered Amish and Transylvania garlic they are of the hard neck varieties. I know the don’t store for as long but I mash them and freeze them in ice cube containers.
Thank you. She is a sweetie. My garlic is a soft neck variety that I bought two years ago as local, organic garlic at the grocery store. It's done so well for me! I like the idea of mashing and freezing in ice cube containers. I'll have to try that!
My garlic is out and hanging., my potatoes are yummy. I had to replant the beets and carrots 🐇🐇🐇 so they're not ready. My tomatoes look great, perhaps too much greenery, I keep pruning but no ripe ones yet. Sorry about yours. It's been a wet summer in Ontario again.
Sounds like your garden is coming along well. Yes, dang rabbits. I had some sneaking into my garden as well. Luckily they left my beets alone and went for the peas. But I found their entranced closed it up again before they did too much damage!
@@Escapetothe8thConcession Rabbits thinned my peas alot. This is the first time we've had rabbits. If it happens again next year, I may have to get fencing around the vegetable garden. Flower beds were hard hit too, especially lilies. Perhaps a dog with an appetite for rabbit would work too. We never replaced our dog after the kids grew up and left. Quite a few years ago now 🤔
We have a ton of baby rabbits this year! Probably means a ton of coyotes next year. A couple of years ago rabbits decimated my beets and beans in the old garden. The wire fence didn't go far enough into the ground. I have some chicken wire around my fancy lilies too (like in the end credits) to protect them.
Amazing harvest.
Thank you. I find it amazing how so much food comes from tiny little seeds. It never fails to delight me. :)
Great harvest 👍 There's always so much to do in the garden.
So true. And I wait all year for the warm weather, and then am so busy, it feels like it races by. I still don't have the leeks done. *sigh
All those lovely beet greens, not too chewed up.
My dad always cooked up beet greens. And turnip greens, too. Do you cook them?
@@Escapetothe8thConcession Sure do. If they look as good as yours. I'll have to remember $ store beet seeds next year. Have you tried other seeds?

😮
Neighbours tell me that this property has a long history with blight because we are so low-lying. The constant rain hasn't helped!
@@Escapetothe8thConcession ohhh no.what do u do to battle the blight?

Good harvest! Last week or so I planted some zucchini, I have to check if they sprouted. Are you planning on a second seeding?
I'll be doing some more lettuce, but other than that, I'm not sure I have enough time for other crops. I wish I had started more tomatoes. :(

For sure---unfortunately no one here really likes them.

The onions just fell over because they were sad, they missed you 😔
Aw, I missed them too! LOL
