    About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

Remember - it takes about 3 years for many perennials to settle in and look great. Give it time.

    • @chrissyfrancis8952
      @chrissyfrancis8952 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

Exactly! We put a perennial herb garden in next to one of our rain barrels, next to the front porch so I can grab fresh herbs for meals. Our annual herbs are in Greenstalk vertical planters or pots on the porch steps(all handy!) I winter the pots over, they’re on their second year. Lavender & oregano. For obvious reasons, I won’t put oregano, lemon balm, chamomile & a couple mints in the ground bc we don’t have the space to let them run. We have peppermint next to our garage in a raised bed & spearmint in our rock garden. Our perennial flowers took(like u said) 3 years to settle in & expand. Our house was built in 1898 & someone had planted a long row of honeysuckle & we’re thinking it’s called a “moon flower bush”, they’re huge!

In my experience, for over forty years of gardening,
I have found lemon balm to be quite behaved in the garden, unlike the other mints.
This current garden is about seven years growing and the lemon balm is still only about a foot in diameter.
I simply pull out any that come up from runners or seed. She’s been very good! I do cut it to make tea; makes a lovely drink that is soothing to the nervous system, puts me to sleep, actually!

Remember that the first year the new plants 'sleep', as the set their roots. The second year they 'creep'. The third year they 'leap'. It's a waiting game at this point.
I love pineapple lily. It hasn't thrived in my north Texas full sun location, but I'll move it to an afternoon shade spot and try it again. I especially like the burgundy colored varieties.
Thanks to Shane and all the others who lent a hand. I think I saw Tanya wheelbarrowing soil and I'm sure Rob and Robert were there too.
The garden is really progressing quickly. Now I'm anxious for Friday's episode.
    ❤ from TX!

It’s truly magical, just as I knew it would be. Every flower, bush and tree has been carefully chosen by Shayne to stitch together a tapestry of extraordinary beauty. A plaque or bench must be put in the garden with Shayne’s name on it. It is only fitting to do so. 💗

The garden is impressive. How exciting. I'm sure your landscape architect already recommended to loosen the twine every few months so the roots of the trees will get used to the wind and establish to hold the tree upright. I managed several large properties and we did that when planting new trees. I worked with a horticulturalist from Texas A&M who knew his stuff.

At first I thought it odd as you described with joy the difference these few plantings and fountains where making to the garden. Yet now being able to see this through the drone footage, I completely agree. What you all are creating will be beautiful as the plants mature.

Wow! great progress. Passion Flower is called Lilikoi in Hawaii. It has small green fruit on it that turns to yellow when ripe. Very tasty n juicy. Makes great jam and juice for tropical drinks. Hope you get the chance to grow some.

It'll be interesting to hear Shane's thought process for your centrepiece. My eye is always drawn to the small alcove in the wall to the right of the steps, and how beautifully anchored it is. Could your original stone piece be the garden's masterpiece ? Raised on another 'found' solid stone as its base - width and height for that space ? And an acknowledgement that French gardens are closely borrowed from Italian gardens, I'm so looking forward to the sound of water, like babbling brooks as you wander through your garden.
