I first listened to this rendition of the maestro DKJ sir when I was about 20 years, a good 52 years ago!! As much enjoyable now too!
Two other compositions Yelara Krishna - Kambhoji and Vinatha Suta Vahana - Jayanthasena are also etched in my mind, so much so
that I do listen to these on You Tube every now and then. Pranams to the great soul.🙏

I think I have listened DKJ singing the 'Maa mayura meethil eri vaa....live , I think at the Sngeetha Vidwath Samajam just few months prior to his getting the Music Academy's Sangeetha Kalanidhi Award. Unfortunately he passed away within a month after the title was conferred on him.
Bilahari is a janya of 29th mela Deera Sankarabaranam has no madhyamam or nishadham in the ascending scale.but with kakali nishadham and shuddha madhyamam in descending scale. It is a combination of the Mohanam - pentatonic scale and the sampurna raga scale Sankarabharanam! The raga structure is S R2 G3 P D2 S / S N3 D2 P M1 G3 R2 S . DKJ did incorporate class elements of flash sangathies....brighas so nicely to express the exhilarating mood created by the ragam. so vibrant n lovely!!!
