Finally a groomer is talking about how some areas are painful and some parts his dog doesn't like done. Most groomers in videos talk about how it doesn't hurt and it's no big deal. This is a great video that explains exactly how to be aware of the painful and uncomfortable areas and to know your own dog. I really appreciate the real honesty here and what a truly gorgeous and elegant dog! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us.
You're an excellent teacher. I wish I was in London so I could take some lessons with you. This is by far the best video I've found about handstripping WFTs. (And I'm including videos that I've paid for!) Thank you transgroom and Costin.

Amazing demo! Thank you so much for this!!! I have been looking for good explanations on the layers, and appropriate lines and this outlines everything perfectly! Thank you Transgroom, Costin, and Bubba!
Indeed an excellent teacher and compliments for how you treat your dog… caring, loving and with respect. Never seen such a good explanation how to groom a Foxterrier. Compliments and thank you so much!
This took me back over fifty years when my late father kept wires never more than two at a time he would spend all day Saturday stripping combing and brushing so he could take the dog out on the Sunday the only problem was and he didn't mind telling people he couldn't get them to show standard I really enjoyed watching this clip and I know he would have watched it over and over West Yorkshire G B
Great appreciation for the work and your patient explanation. Here in China wire fox terrier is not common, few ppl know how to do the grooming, I will try to do it by myself. THNX again.
This is great. I’ve learnt so much wow. Thank you! Can I ask a question- should I be giving full trips ( show) to my puppy to keep the wiery hair coming?
Eastern Europeans know there Terriers and they breed some good quality fully functional terriers over in the Balkans and up and down the Eastern block 👍✅
Hello , thank you for your feedback and question . The full grooming is depending from dog to dog . we always advice to start as soon as possible . but it's depending of the coat and dog. At least before the 6 months . thank you
Hello , thank you for your feedback . We recommend to groom/ handstrip a dog every 6 weeks . Show dogs actually are being handstripped very week . so it's all depending on what you want or the coat needs. Please don't hesitate to contact us for further questions www.transgroom.com
what kind of stripping knives do you use? can you send me a photo? That's will be very nice - I've been looking for the perfect trim knives for 10 years, that's how long I've had a wire fox
Hi there! In the description there's a list of all the products that were used in this video. These are all Show Tech stripping knives which you can also find on our Transgroom website. The Sentinel stripping knives are also very good for wiry coats! Kind regards
How can we get the same grooming on a young dog totally unable to stand put? I have a Welsh terrier, 19 months. I tried several places in Montreal where he has been shaved like a sheep… HELP
Hello Jean-Louis . thank you so much for your message . I am sad te read that your Welsh has being shaved . Hopefully you will find a good groomers nearby . Sorry That we can't help you with a good groomer . We are from Belgium , Europe ... Fingers crossed . Thank you and wish you all the best

Hello, thank you fo ryour feedback . Can you please search for Paula Buru on social media ( FB, Insta), she is living across the border with Romania . and she can help you to find a good groomer . Thank you
I started self teaching myself to strip my pet wire fox terrier. So much better and easier to maintain. I started about 16 years ago looking for instructional videos or anything. This is by far the best most thorough explanation of each part of the dog. Thank you for doing this. It’s hard to find a groomer out there that will do this type of grooming in most places so you have to make it work by doing it yourself.
I rescued a WFT that had been shaved for the past year. Should I let her hair grow longer until taking her to be stripped? Will her vibrant color come back?
@@Cmass9 Also: Remember to comb with a wide tooth comb, every day, because the fur needs air ! Take the dog to a pro hand stripper to get her evaluated, because sometimes it is truly a lost cause, but you need a pro to evaluate that :D Good luck! :D
Nice looking vivacious presenter. Sound needs improvement. Need some sound dampeners. Rubber mats. Cloth covered foam panels hung from ceiling. Also, people with lovely heavy accents are difficult to understand when speaking too fast. Especially when sound is not optimal. Thank you for demo. Your angulations, lines, and tips/ directions are helpful
Great work , I personally don’t like hand stripping, don’t understand some owners still hand stripping their dog till they are very old and they are just pets !!
Hello Elushka, its because if we scissor or clip the hair turns dull and starts to curl and become fluffy and the wiry coat is best to stay wiry. see the following text from our blog .What is hand stripping? For those of you that aren’t that familiar with all grooming techniques, this name might sound strange. It could bring to mind images of matters that happen behind closed doors (ooh la la) or suffering (owie). Rest assured, it’s none of the above. When done properly, hand stripping does not hurt your dog at all. You are carefully pulling out hairs from the root to the tip, only a few at a time. This allows a new coat to grow and lets the skin breathe. Some areas such as the neck, tail, behind and the tummy can be sensitive. If preferred, you can also use scissors or clippers. For an instructional video, check here. If there’s one thing that all grooming experts agree on, it’s that hand stripping can only be done on dog breeds that have a rough or wiry coat! These coats have two types of hair: a soft undercoat and a long and wire topcoat. Thanks to hand stripping, you remove that dense, wire topcoat to reveal the soft undercoat. Hello there beautiful! A natural and vibrant looking coat If you have a hand-stripping breed, you should not scissor or clip your dog’s coat. Scissoring or clipping can result in the coat losing its natural texture and vibrant colours. Wouldn’t you rather have a happy and beautiful dog with its natural coat, as he was bred to be? Without doubt, hand stripping is the correct way to groom most Spaniels, Setters, Schnauzers and Terrier breeds. If the dead hair is not pulled out, a too thick coat might be the result and irritation and skin problems might occur. Another hair will grow in the same follicle. This causes the hair follicle to get clogged and as a result, the skin isn’t able to breathe anymore. Hairs also become finer, loose their colour and natural thick texture. Some coats will even start to be curly and fluffy. Not at all what you had in mind when thinking about a perfectly groomed dog, right? By hand stripping the coat in the correct way, you maintain the natural and breed-typical texture. A hand-stripped coat is able to repel water, dust and dirt, fewer mats are formed and your sweetheart’s colours are deep and beautiful again! What’s not to love about this? this is the blog and we have much more blogs if you like to reed transgroom.com/en/blogs/hand-stripping-the-way-to-go anyway I hope you enjoyed, stay safe
@@TransgroomTV This explanation is so well writting and it warms my hearth to see you fight for the wirey coat! We refuse to cut or shave down any wirey coat on any terrier/schnauzer that comes in our door at the salon because its much better for the dog to have its natural wirey coat! Keep up the good work! This fox looks amazing and your techniques are also super to watch! Thank you for sharing this very important information!
As long as it doesnt hurt the dog and the fur has good quality, its better for the dog to have wirey coat. Just because the dog isnt a show dog, that doesnt mean it deserves less to have good quality fur that protects them from the weather and dirt that is outside.
