I was trying to imagine a scenario that would force a 135 to fly below the hilltops ??? Wartime of course....Ingress? Egress? Some kind of pop, refuel, drop back down surprise op???
Brilliant shots Tom, great work! Would you be okay with me featuring one or two of these flybys in my series Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description. Thanks!
Your shots are super sharp mate! What ya shooting? I was up on Cad West back in 2022. Unfortunately, we only had 1 pass of a flight of Texans while up there but on the way out, an F-15E and F-35 came through. We were not happy!
@@tomwhitworthphoto Nice one mate! I have the D500 and the 300 2.8 myself. Great combo! I got the D6 last year and also a 150-600, so that's been my combo for shooting airshows / aircraft and some sports. Really nice work!
So, genuine question: you take so many shots at a time? Is that hoping at least one will be ok? Or is it a necessaty as the speed of the aircraft is too high and you might miss ?
Good question! So it’s one of those where if you take more photos, your chance of a good one is higher. But also, it’s because of the ever changing angle of the jet and the changing background as the jet passes… by taking more shots, you’re getting more of a variety of photos.
It is the UK Royal Air Force Crest for RAF Mildenhall Station. All of the 100th ARW aircraft based at Mildenhall carry them along with the historic square 'D' on the tail. The base technically belongs to the RAF and not USAFE despite them having been based their 74 years. The other USAF wings & squadrons based at Mildenhall currently don't carry the crest on the tail.

I really shouldn't watch this sort of thing, always makes me feel (even more) homesick. Cheers from NZ (where there are no fast-jets at all).
@@tomwhitworthphoto Not ever having used a mirror less camera or seen one used, I was wondering if that was a DSLR or if these newer types made such a sound. It definitely doesn't sound anything like my lowly T series Canon Rebels.
Great collection Sir, despite the knobends below complaining about shutter noise...... anyhoo, might be my imagination, but is the backseater in the first f-15 pass "flipping the bird" .... improving international relations so to speak?
Shutter speed means motion blur in video screen grabs unless they shoot at high fps. The right high res + high speed video kit costs more than most photographers spend on camera bodies. I used to own REDs and have shot Phantoms, wouldnt want to lug that kit where these lads shoot from.
@@tomwhitworthphoto Cameras make noises - if viewers don't like the noises they can a) turn the sound off or b) go the Mach Loop and take their own videos rather than whinge on. But this is t'internet where knobjockeys rule :-)

No music, no long drawn out intro just excellent camera skills. A real treat to see. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Just the annoying clatter of what sounds like a thoroughly worn out old camera.
Nice. Love the heritage “D” on the tail of the KC135. 100th refueling wing. Direct lineage to the 100th Bombardment Group from WWII.
Absolutely amazing and beautiful especially the F-15E Strike Eagles and the KC-135R Stratotanker !! 😁😁
A tanker in the mach loop? That just doesn't seem logical. Nevertheless, very cool!
It was awesome!
Quality! Great pics and video mate nicely put together 👌 and that KC135 is a bit of alright 😉🤩

They'll be sending B-52s through there soon!

This has to be my first good look at the A400M. It’s a neat little plane. Wonderful shots!
The A400 is awesome. Thank you!
Not so little, it's bigger than a C130
I had no idea the 135's did the loop!

North Wales, not far from Dolgellau
How common is it for KC-135s to transit the loop?
