  • This is a video showing the difference between a standard rotation water pump versus a reverse rotation water pump on a small block chevy V-8 engine.

Hi there , just a question are you sure that the other pump is stander as some video show it's a reverse rotation.

If you look at the impeller on each pump it's very easy to see that they rotate opposite of the other. Another way to tell is if the water pump pulley has a smooth surface where the belt rides, its reverse rotation. If the pulley has ribs or a v groove, its standard rotation. Thanks for your comment.

Yea there's another video that shows the waterpump on the left side of your video to be a reverse style impeller for a serpentine system

Did you figure it out y it was so hot

It was several things. I'm running a small block 400 which inherently run hot to begin with, but I wanted to see what I could do to get the temperature down a bit more to my liking. I removed the water pump to confirm it was a reverse rotation for my application, and it was. So that checked out okay. So it was mostly that the engine that was recently rebuilt, had an issue with the rings not seating properly. Also timing was a factor since the balancer timing mark was off by 8 degrees and my EFI system was running on the lean side. The engine has just been rebuilt and broken in on a run stand so we believe all is good now. I have a video coming out soon on the break-in procedure of this engine. Thanks so much for your comment.

Is this a statement or a question? Thanks for your comment.

The outlet is to connect a hose for the heater system, hope this helps you
