    I've changed my perspective, a backlog is no longer a "must play" list, it's my own personal menu. I may never play all the games I own, but I have a wide selection for whatever my mood or time constraint.

    I know why my backlog exists, it's because my favorite games still aren't boring

    One way that helps me keep a very low backlog is I have gotten much better at not buying games I am not VERY excited about. Up until a few years ago, I used to buy probably 90% JRPGs on the market (consoles only) and still be able to beat them all (multiple times in some cases). But recently I feel like the sheer quantity of games coming out is ridiculous, to the point where I've had to reevaluate what games I really need. Owning too many unfinished games massively triggers my OCD lol. I also need to learn it's OK to not want to finish a game I'm not enjoying and just remove it from backlog altogether.

    • @qualitea_individual
      @qualitea_individual  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a VERY good tip! And definitely something I struggle with! I very easily get caught up in the hype of new games that I wasn't previously excited for, so I've been forcing myself to just say no if it's something I know I don't super want!

    Great tips! For me personally, I just don't keep track of a backlog anymore and I rarely buy games that I don't have the intention of playing right away (yes Black Friday still gets me every year). Tracking a backlog makes me feel stressed about how overwhelming it is. Sure I have games that I haven't played yet in my collection but most of them are ones that I don't really want to play or ones that I know I'll get to eventually. I think for me treating games as something that have to be "finished" makes me feel like I failed somehow if I didn't finish a game and that is when it no longer becomes fun or feels like a job. Now I try to look at games not as something to "finish" but something to play and enjoy whether it's for 1 hour or 100 hours. Naturally if I like the game enough I will finish it but I don't treat it as the end goal anymore. It makes it easier to drop things that I'm just not really having fun with or am starting to feel burnt out on. This is totally a personal problem though and I think these are great tips regardless! This also might not work for everyone but I get burnt out if I force myself to only play one game at a time, I like to bounce between a few games of different genres because somedays after a long day of work I just don't want to play a game that makes me use my brain.

    Excelent tips! I definitelly can see the "I am not feeling it right now" sensation. Assassins Creed and Age of Empires (and other strategy games) are perfect examples of this.
    The first one I really did not enjoy the first time I played it. Came back a year later and really loved it.
    Strategy is just so taxing for me depending on my mood. Its like really hard to play those if not on holidays/vacations for me.

    I do this thing where I really love a game, so whe I start to get a feeling that it's coming to the ending, I will switch over and start another game. These are games I would love to finish, but I guess I thought they were good enough that I wouldn't mind coming back to them. Resident Evil revelations, I could easily finish, but I got bayonetta 2 and am going to be excited to come back to RE. Unfortunately I did this with Resident Evil 0 as well, very near to the end. IDK why I do this. Maybe just to have a game I know I like that is always there.

    One thing that’s hard for me is that I’m a College student and have a part time job. It’s hard for me to just sit down and play certain games. What I’m going to try to do is play more relaxed/cozy games this year so I don’t have to worry so much about a story. I would still play the bigger titles but maybe more on the weekends or on school breaks.
    If anybody has any suggestions for games that have the relaxed/cozy feel to them you can reply to this comment (preferably games on the Switch or Mobile games) I also have a windows computer but don’t really use it for gaming. I can also take non cozy game suggestions. I also have a ton of non cozy games so that’s why I didn’t include them here.
    I already have Disney Dreamlight Valley, ACNH , & Minecraft

    Thanks for the tips. Maybe I'll use some of them in 2023. I did not play a lot of games in 2022. It's been a bit of a crazy and busy year. I also got hooked on Slay the Spire, so I didn't play much else. I'm still playing it a little each day (including while I watched this video).
    I'm currently playing Elden Ring and Pokemon Legends Arceus. I'm hoping to finish both, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to beat Elden Ring because it's hard. I am getting better though, so it would be a pretty big confidence boost if I finished it. I tried Arceus when it came out, but never got super far, so I'm hoping to get through it this time after having finished Pokemon Violet.
    I just got Wargroove as well on a sale, so that's also on the backlog and I'll probably try that after I finish or drop one of the two games I'm playing now. The first PS4 God of War game is also one I want to do. I have played some of it before. I loved the story so far, but didn't like being in menus so much. I want to eventually finish Horizon Zero Dawn. I've tried 2-3 times over the years, got a good way into the game and stopped for various reasons. I think I'll just try picking it back up from my last save point instead of restarting again. I pretty much remember what was going on, I think.
    I know you said that games I haven't bought yet aren't on the backlog, but I would like to buy the new Kirby game, Digimon Survive, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, and maybe a couple others from this year and I'm looking forward to Fire Emblem Engage and the new Zelda game next year. I'm hoping that I get to play and finish more games in 2023.

    I went from being a student to a full time teacher. As a student, I would game, but I would play "the comfort game"; a game that I know and am familiar with. That I would feel "safe" with. I remember a comfort game took 2 years for me, in correllation of the pursuit of the degrees I was getting. Juggling assignments also didn't help, so the comfort game got me through uni, but I would buy games. Now as a teacher, I have time off work. I can excercise and do other things. Time management has gotten easier, now it is clicking I can play YEARS worth of backlog on multiple systems.
