  • This video is about making a Watt meter/ Power module for Arduino which can calculate the power that is being drawn by a DC load.The module is simple to make with very common components. The current reading from this module is quite accurate and can measure currents as low as 50mA.

    Ideally, voltage should be sensed on the low side of the load. An over protection circuit maybe a 5.2V zener between analog in and gnd post voltage divider can save the chip in case of over voltages.

    Utsav, Since anything can be programmed in the Arduino, it would be interesting to add a calculation and display of the cost of the power. Where I live it is about 14 cents per KiloWatt Hour. With most of the power measured with your project it will be milliwatts ,or maybe 1/4 watt range.. fractions of pennies. However, it would still be an interesting addition that would make your project unique.
    I work in Automotive engineering and we look for cost savings on cars down to pennies. It doesn't sound like much, but if you add up 100,000 - 700,000 cars built over a year, those pennies add up.
    You might be surprised how much all of those devices that run on milliwatts add up over a few months on your bill. The power cost will be even more for batteries that are not rechargeable.

      Thanks a lot for sharing your idea and I have a project upcoming that requires power data logging. I will surely add the energy and cost calculation there

    if i use Shunt R001 what do i need to change from that schematic and its program?

      Since you will be using a shunt of lower value, the only thing you need to change is the resistor value to change the gain of the amplifier. You would need to increase the gain for this case

    hi sir i am vaibhav whom you tell the gain and all that stuff in that amp . So will you please help me in this project. Sir i only want to measure the ampere which coming through my solar panel. which give around 12 amps but i wanna make an ampere meter which can measure upto 15amps.
    and i am having
    00.6 ohms shunt
    so what will be the schematic after this and coding for the arduino

      Use 39K and 10K resistor for Rf and Rin to get a gain of aaprox 4.9. then check the voltage output of opamp for different current values from shunt and adjust in the code

    How many amperes and volts can be measured with this circuit.

    • @UtsavShah_25
      @UtsavShah_25  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can comfortably measure 30-35 volts with a current of 6-7 amps without much issues

    Please learn the correct usage and technique for soldering. You never carry solder to a joint on tip of the soldering iron. Also clean and tin the tip of your iron, it is filthy. Another tip, lose the background music, not needed at all.

      Thank you for the feedback. As a matter of fact my soldering iron has got pretty old and definitely needs replacement. Will keep the points in mind :)
