    Well.... a year has passed since we were supposed to leave, and i am happy to say that the trip is still on. For those that were disappointed about the lack of updates or new information, or with my admission that we were not going, the trip is still happening.. and it has been decided to use a HP Velotechnik Scorpion FS. For anyone that is interested you can look at the trip on my website www.jayoe.com or check out my youtube channel for more information. Ill have some great trike videos coming out soon as i go to germany to assemble my trike next month!

    One big change is that it is going to be a Solo Journey now. Just me, Matt, and the trike... Riding around the world.
    Matt & Ryan hit up Bent Up Cycles in North Hollywood to check out potential trikes for their 5 year Rogue Journey. It's their first time with these strange looking 3-wheelers and the lucky model will need to not only carry them through 100 countries but it will need to support all of the necessary film equipment required to follow their journey across they the globe. Lots to think about and lots of fun!

    I've owned and operated a Sun EZ1-sx recumbent bicycle for approximately 5 years now. I've used it for everything from weekend off-road excursions to in city rush hour traffic commutes. I've even taken it on intercity trips. To say I've put it through its paces is an understatement. I've run it into the ground and resurrected it back like a glorious bent phoenix. It has been labeled an inexpensive introductory recumbent bicycle and it certainly lived up to its reputation. I've enjoyed every comfortable reclining effortless pedal on my trusty Sun and I've come to a point in my recumbent riding experience where I’m ready to upgrade to a trike and pass on my Sun to one of my eager family members who have been salivating over it for a very long time now. This video has been very helpful in my journey and I certainly hope that there are a lot of other people out there like me who will very soon join the ever burgeoning number of bent trike riders, godspeed and ride free!

    actually... some of the plans fell thru. We postponed the leave date by one year and the duo of matt and ryan has shifted to a journey of just matt traveling around the world. August 15th is the date of departure, and the mode of transportation will be variable, including but not limited to the trike.

    Hi Steve. I'm also in the market for a trike. When it comes to trikes, there is two different types of steering, Indirect and Direct. Indirect will give you a more comfortable ride as far as not feeling bumps in the road because of the steering rod, whereas direct you will feel everything. Another thing to consider is if you have to travel to trails, the ICE trikes have the ability to fold, and new for 2014 the Catrike trail will also have the ability to fold if you don't have vehicle room.

  • @StellarFella

    Six years on and all brands have evolved appreciably.
    The ICE Adventure and their other models have a great seat. The most comfortable one yet.
    Am too heavy for most models until I lose 50 lbs.
    Am taking delivery on a Greenspeed Magnum XL that will make me lose that 50 lbs. plus at least 30 more.
    The Scorpion FS PLUS and the AZUB trikes are my favorites.
    Catrike is coming on real strong too! For non folding, the TRIOT Trikes are spectacular.

      Cecil Treadwell ..just saw your comment Cecil.... they are all great products.I was ordering my new folding 559 from Catrike and froze the order after seeing CycleCon video by Gary Solomon and the new E Cat models. will order one with the Bosch as soon as they accept orders. Get rid the extra weight.....no bread, bagels, sugar, cakes, etc. no ice cream. fruit snacks and popcorn at night and fresh fish and lean meat.lose that weight, get healthy and cycle all day!

      +Haralabos Lukatos the max speed i have been able to go has been about 43km/h on a flat road.... 72 on a downhill... but i chose the 20fs... so my wheel diameter is not ideal for high speeds... the 26 rear wheel can get up into higher speeds...

      Get on an upright bike and the gut hangs over and hides the belt. He got it completely backwards, nobody looks at their gut rolls on an upright cos it's as awkward as looking at the back tyre between your legs.

    The best bike for a world tour is the one with the biggest weight limit because of strength. Therefore Greenspeed Magnum XL. Also for touring rule out disc brakes because of extra maintenance on the road.

    all you really need to know 20 inch trikes are best for touring 24 an26 are best for speed, pick the best gearing because you can't get of and push so get plenty of gears to deal with hills, and after 3 or four days riding a tour to many calories, are not a problem, you will eat voraciously

    • @rossbrumby1957
      @rossbrumby1957 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If bigger wheels are supposed to give more speed, then how do you explain the greenspeed aero being advertised as the world's fastest production tadpole, with 16" and 20" wheels? Bigger wheels roll over rough surfaces easier, but catch more air and are heavier. Being a smaller diameter, they accelerate easier and as the trike is lower, they corner faster and are stronger.

Been on a few hour plus rides on the mountain bike though, and each time sore neck, back, arse, and repeated pins and needles in hands. Just built a recumbent bike, seat is a curved ally roadsign. Nothing sore after a week riding for an hour or so each day.

    The speed metal music is ubiquitous on cycling videos. I have no idea why, as for me cycling is a soothing activity that reconnects me with nature. The music here was tolerable...but I like the sounds of the environment best. What is wrong with hearing the birds sing, the tires scuffing on the pavement, the click click of the cassette. TH-cam people DO use hideous music.

    • @KrunchyJD
      @KrunchyJD 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robin Miller Yes they are more expensive, mainly because they are not produced in the numbers that bikes are. That said, most NEW bikes under $400 are junk. You could look for a used one. You could also look to build one yourself. You also have to consider how much you spend on transport now, and what part of transport, the trike would replace. If it is just a toy for some fun, then yes, too expensive. If it replacing a car, or part replacing a car, then maybe not. If you consider the cost of owning a car, (fuel, tyres, wear and tear, maintenance, registration insurance etc etc), then you may find that a $1650 trike the person suggests would pay for itself.
      Also, you are writing on the internet so you have a computer, many computers are nearly $2000.
      Riding a bicycle will also lower health costs, and prolong your life.

    • @robinmiller173
      @robinmiller173 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      KrunchyJD - What I have now is an old "American Schwinn" aluminum ladies' 7-speed beach cruiser with "sprung" stabilizer wheels - www.ez-trainer.com/?s=adult&l=en and a Bicycle Designers "ass back" seat/post combo -- www.bicycledesigner.com/kits/leg-extender-seat-post-kit.html
      It's still an upright bike but I get full knee extension and can put my feet down at a stop. It looks great and rides well.
      With any luck, before long my health and balance will improve to where I can pop the training wheels off and have a bitchen lowrider beach cruiser. Banana seat? I tried one. MAN, is it harder on my butt at age 61 than it was at age 10. I have a spare bike I think I'll put it on for guests to use...
      For me a bike is a combination exercise machine and neighborhood transport. For distance travel, I have a perfectly nice 1996 Jeep Cherokee. The bike fits in it easily with the rear seat folded down. And the few times my wife has wanted to ride with me on one of the nearby scenic trails, we put her one-speed Huffy (she loves it) in the Jeep, too.
      So I have a great bike. Meanwhile, I check Craigslist, and maybe one day I'll spot a good recumbent bike or trike I can afford. And maybe not. I'm cool with my old Jeep and my wife is happy with her 10-year-old Hyundai, which we bought new and have maintained as fanatically as I maintain the Jeep, which is about as cherry a Cherokee as you've ever seen.
      And the bike I have now is pretty nice. I have pedal extensions so I don't hit the crank with my size 13 feet that can't feel anything due to diabetes.I have a water bottle holder because it gets HOT here in Florida, and we have such nimrod car drivers in our neck of the woods that if I start riding on main routes -- in Manatee County, which has one of the highest bike rider death rates in the country -- I may rig my little mini-laptop bag onto the handlebars, because I have a place in it for my little .22 pistol and two spare magazines.

      Robin Miller Yeah they cost more than a lot of cars. I could get one but it's not economic use of my money store....

    Lame indeed. Zero details, and models with traditional handlebar steering have been left out.

    Dude, who makes a review where you walk around pointing at bikes and the camera man doesn't even show what you're pointing at... useless.

    Well, I guess if you like it that is the thinking behind adding it to your video. Personally, I think music (and usually unpleasant music) is used way too often on TH-cam videos. I think it detracts from the message being given, and in many cases makes the video unbearable to watch.

    I just don't understand the thinking behind the mind-numbing pseudo music you added to this.
