To answer some questions, had scholarship offers and talks in 3 sports after HS, ultimately deciding to pursue an academic scholarship and graduate over chasing a professional sport. Update 1: **Senior Year I grew an inch, becoming 6'4. PR was 6'4 (1.95m) which I did twice scissor kicking but consistently jumped from 6'1-3(1.86-1.92m). Never learned how to flop because I never had to learn, to win. Wish I did though.** (2010-2011)

This is a case of a coach not willing to chase an athletic scholarship for a kid for some reason. If he has the vertical to clear 6' with a scissor kick, he could have done 7' with the flop if his coach had thought to help him. Wondered if he had a scholarship for college?
I would say it was the case of a young arrogant HS kid not listening rather than the coach not pushing. I had a few scholarship offers for 3 sports opting to take an academic scholarship instead.
Again agreed, Scissor kick for height ='s what I meant. This guy ='s replicating an actual scissor kick but jumping over a hurdle with a soft-landing and also while running.

in 1968 I was 5ft 10 inches and cleared the same height using the scissor technique.
Old post but similar experience. In 1970 when I was 13 I could scissor my height 5' 11''. I gave up on jumping about the time people were trying the flop, I only attempted it a few times before I concentrated on running. I failed miserably in my attempts but I could still see the benefits in perfecting the flop.

That means that like the Kenyan jumpers he could totally land without the mat he's got a technique of his own and the mechanics is very good

I try to do the other technique for high jump and I cannot do it I can only do scissors and apparently that's harder then the other technique and I still manage to beat my whole class... How

Learn the other flopping technique and you’ll get much higher

It’s easier for me because I feel I can get higher, not that you care but I came 3rd in a county competition using the scissor technique x
why is the mat so small
The actual technique is called scissor kicking. I personally can't do a scissor kick when the bar is just about on 5ft+.

If he learned to flop he could do 6' 10" easy... All his power comes from his right leg, watch how high it gets.
At one time Russian high jump Master of Sport could execute frontal approach drills and hurdle heights greater than their own body height.

i can only jump 4.1 feet high scissor kick and im 12 and there are people at my school that can go to like 4.4 feet even tho they are like a year older than me but still dude stop jumping so high

AGREED, Read my comment, Because honestly this is like jumping fences, It is okay but who cares??, Jumping from like nearly 10feet onto a HARD landing AND doing a mid-air double kick IS impressive, That mid-air double kick is a REAL scissor-kick. Even if i'm wrong at least it's cooler than jumping some hurdle.

What i said before IS a scissor kick/mid-air double kick, The name is because it makes an actual scissor-like kick, Anyways all I saw was some guy attempting to be show-off by jumping a hurdle and landing on a soft bag, Know what I do for fun?, I jump off of playground-bridges that are 8feet off the ground and SAND is not soft, Try doing something actually impressive, Running over hurdles, They are like fences, So why why care

Dude, 1. Im 6'2" - 6'3" and bet you couldn't jump my height, but still, Good job for doing 6feet over a hurdle. 2. Keyword is HURDLE, Really how is this a scissor kick?? Want to know what a scissor kick/mid-air double kick is??, It is where you are NOT running, and then swing your leg as if you were kicking (this is the 1st kick) and then the 2nd kick is WHILE your foot is off the ground so that you are in mid-air off the ground. anyways the 2nd leg swings higher AND further than the last one.
I'm commenting on a really old comment for a couple reasons. You're dismissing the name of the high jump technique because it shares the same name as a martial arts technique, and therefore the high jump is wrong. In the same vein then, the high jump bar isn't a hurdle, because clearly the jumper doesn't have the proper form for hurdling either.
All I'm trying to say is, is that multiple things can share the same name without discrediting the other.
