  • THRIFT WITH US! | RESELLER VINTAGE | BARGAIN ANTIQUE SHOPPING
    We're on a mission to find reseller deals for me, and shelves to house my bottle-digger cousin's collection! Can we manage both things in just a few hours by thrifting?
    We score in this video, where a tour through the thrift shops and flea markets of Clearwater, Florida offers some great antique and vintage delights at bargain prices! Salvation Army's church flea market is the first surprise, a place I didn't know existed turns up $5 Bosson's heads and 50-cent Matchbox cars...and we're only getting started!
    Our next stop turns into a world tour when we visit a viewer's mom at her fun themed 1960s condo development! Past facades simulating destinations from Polynesia to Germany, we pick up a fine bargain on a vintage mirrored parson's table. Now where can we find some shelves?
    A furniture thrift store I've bypassed before has our answer, along with a surprising colllection of vintage smalls and some true antiques. We close this one down for the weekend, yet they're even so nice as to reload our now rather full van so we can get to the next thrifting!
    Hep Thrift Store is the next stop on our journey, a local thrift shop that has a gorgeous (though costly) 1927 Charles Lindbergh medallion, a PanAm tie tack (is that really half off of $4.50?!) and some other pretty vintage things we can't fit but might return to later. But it's the second Salvation Army stop that really pays off, when a fresh cart of merchandise comes out of the back room just in time for us to source a collection of European penguin figures and other name-brand vintage home goods! With the potential to make as much as $50-100 each, we're thrilled by our good fortune (and by the $31 total spend). It's mission accomplished, time to go unload for our next thrifting adventure!
    Here's some of what we find in just one afternoon of thrifting:
    Vintage costume jewelry and pearls, Bosson's heads, Matchbox Models of Yesteryear cars, Longaberger inaugural basket, 1960s cherub crystal lamp and sconces, Couroc tray, Lenox China, Metlox Lotus tureen, comic glasses, Murano bowls, Royal Albert cup/saucer, 1980s brass and glass tables, vintage vinyl and CD's, Mexican feather picture, A&W mugs, Pyrex orange mixing bowl, Treasure Craft Disney mug, 1940s dartboard, John Perry shark figures, Sheraton Revival bedroom furniture, Tudor style secretary/china cabinet, Coolidge dogs playing poker prints, dome top steamer trunk, 1970s rattan breakfast table & chairs, Johann Haviland china, faux Hubley iron cat doorstop, Italian mid-century pottery vase, signed glass penguins, Royal Crown Derby paperweight, Waterford shell, Rinconada puffin, Hutschenreuther penguin, Cal Style chip-and-dip, floral tureen, Raku vase, etc.

    I had to laugh...you reminded me of Jocelyn a little, when you guys found the good stuff. She gets all excited and overwhelmed. A very palpable moment for us all. I love how the community of resellers and viewers are so happy when one of us scores a great haul.
    I really enjoyed your time over on Danni's Monday live yesterday. Always interesting to hear the back story to ones journey. I use to go to garage sales with my mom as a child and I never realized how much I absorbed until a few years ago. Thanks so much for your willingness to share your time and knowledge with us George. I loved this one, George. Nice to meet your cousin and hear a bit about your family. My personal favorite things: Bosson heads (I had some that I got in England, and I made some reproductions). I love Franciscan Apple ( American made only), and Waterford anything - especially love the seashell. I’d be interested in perchasing that one if you kept it.💚💚💚

    Too bad I wasn't at the Sally flea with you. I can usually eyeball pearls. You don't need your fingers really, just your front teeth or the ability to get a good look at the drill holes. Looks like you got there way too late unfortunately. I'm glad somebody is scoring in a thrift. My local Ill Will is so-named for cause. BTW- Hutschenreuther = HUT (as in foot)-shen-roy-ter. They make some nice stuff. The name is a tongue-twister if you didn't take too many years of semi-useful College German like I did.

    The large bronze disc is called a Death Penny and was given to the families of dead soldiers etc from World War One. I believe that they are always British military and should have the name of the dead combatant on it. I know that the one I own does as it is a family heirloom.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 'Death Pennies' are a sad story, but very interesting! This particular round was about 10 years later however, in the US they issued variants as commemoratives of other events

    My mom had a large collection of Bosson's that she bought when we lived in Germany. Unfortunately a 30' wall of water washed them out of her house during Katrina. They were still in the boxes so we figure either they are deep in the swamp or out in the ocean somewhere.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad

      Oh no! That's terrible, I didn't realize she went thorugh all that. I hope she was able to rebuild

    • @BayouBelleVintiques
      @BayouBelleVintiques 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheAntiqueNomad Yes, they rebuilt. They had built this house in Bay St. Louis MS as their retirement home and had only been in it for a month before Katrina hit. They lived in a 18' RV for over a year while trying to rebuild. It was a nightmare. Things can be replaced, the worst part was the loss of all the family photos. Their house was 19' off the ground, so no one thought a 30' wall of water would ever hit that location!

    Good evening, George! Those model cars were nice. One of them looked like a Duesenberg. There was a Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote glass there. I would've had to have bought that one. I loved the Tudor-style secretary desk. The price was a bit on the steep side, but for someone that wanted a really nice one, it would be a good find. Those penguins were a great find. You were there at just the right time for those. That Waterford shell was a fantastic find! That was a really good thrift shopping venture! That doesn't happen often. Thanks for taking us along!!!

      I do like Wile E. Coyote! The secretary was the nicest piece of furniture I found all day. I was certainly lucky to walk up on the fresh cart of stock right then! Have you ever seen the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg museum? Those cars are so phenomenal (and huge) in person

    • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
      @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAntiqueNomad I've never seen the Auburn/Cord/ Duesenberg museum, but I have seen a Duesie, and they are massive! I saw a Duesie clocked one time. It was one of the ginormous ones...an SJ, (or something like that), dual cowl Phaeton, I think...and the radar clocked that thing at 133 MPH...on the old spoke wheels, no less! It had a V-12 in it. I'd love to have one of them, but I'd have to live in it😆 Wouldn't be able to afford anything else!

    The Insect Surfers! They were one of the reliably great bands to go see in DC back in the day; along with Tru-Fax and the Insaniacs, The Slickee Boys, the Razz, and the inimitable Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band! All free range, drinking and dancing shows...never stuck in a seat, and not even old enough to be there. That's funny they ended up in LA...makes sense!

      I'm George's cousin Carl, and grew up in MD, until 1981. Mainly Wheaton and Silver Spring. I forgot about the Slickee Boys, but saw Root Boy several times. Them and the Nighthawks. As well as scores of concerts at the Capitol Centre.
      When I found that cd, I knew that I remembered them from somewhere.
      Think I saw them at the Pschedelly, in Bethesda. Thanks for helping me reminisce!

      @@curbdiggercarl The Psychedelly was FUN! I was in Northern Virginia (just outside of DC) through High School and some College; I left in about 83. Things had already begun to shift, but there were still so many good small places to see shows; plus everybody tours through there, or used to! It was a great place for growing up as far as music.
