Over the past couple years, more Americans have become familiar with the story of the Tulsa Race Massacre, where a white mob burned a vibrant Black community to the ground. Which is crazy. Even crazier? Dozens of other Black towns have been erased off the American map, not by burning them down, but by hiding them under water. Do you know what we mean? Let’s find out in a segment called, “How Did We Get Here?”
Show Synopsis: Amber showcases her signature smart-and-silly take on the news of the week, responding to it all with a charming, late-night mix of seriousness, nonsense, and evening gowns.

      agree to disagree 🤷‍♂️
"People wouldn't talk about another tragedy when they talk about the Holocaust, so why do it here?"
This is exactly my point-we're not talking about a different tragedy, we're talking about the exact same thing-they flooded Indigenous towns too, they drove out Indigenous people for dams, lakes, and reservoirs too-literally the same thing. And decades later, not like Seneca Village and York Hill in the 1850s, or like Oscarville in 1912.
The Garrison Dam was built in the 1940s and 50s. The Oahe Dam was built in the 50s and 60s, some of the people that lived through that are still alive, this isn't ancient history-and these are clearly very related issues-so that's why it should be at least mentioned here.
Also in regards to the Holocaust, I presume you meant to imply that you wouldn't mention groups besides Jews when talking about the Holocaust-but that's not the case, it is increasingly common to acknowledge that the Nazis also targeted LGBTQ people, and Rroma people, among others-acknowledging that doesn't take away from the gravity of the matter in my opinion.

I learned about Seneca Village from a podcast. I learned about the Tulsa massacre (which, btw, they call the "race riots") from a book I found while I was working in my university library. I'm learning about all these other flooded towns from a comedy writer and host. Seems like I should have learned about this in school. Like a whole history of racism in our country. Maybe we could call it Critical Race Theory.

That name is already taken by a concept in post graduate studies. We could call it truthful and accurate history instead.

Heartbreaking to know why my grandparents never talked about life in Georgia in early 1900. My grandparents never talked about life in Georgia or North Carolina or Virginia. They only dealt with the here and now. I showed up in the 1950s, and never heard a thing of family history while living in Philadelphia. and I am the last family member.
